My father was unfortunate enough to have a negative experience at Cedars-Sinai a few years ago after the surgery on his aneurysm. He ultimately ended up in the ICU for a few days and then was transferred into recovery where we almost lost him. My father was not even part of Dr. Charlene's rotations, and she took it upon herself to investigate his medical history and the symptoms he was experiencing to help ease his suffering and get him back on the road to recovery. She played an instrumental role in his discharge from the hospital, and my family and I will always be grateful to her for that. My initial appointment was at 2:40 and I didn't see her until 3:30. I soon found out why, though--she was completely thorough and listened to all my concerns. I've been to doctors who just want to rush you out the door and don't take your concerns seriously. Dr. Lichtash is the opposite of that. One thing: don't park in the garage. Dr. Charlene Lichtash operates a medical practice named, "Metabolic Health Institute."  Located very close to La Cienega Park in a busy neighborhood, it is very difficult to find parking within walking distance of her office.  More importantly, regarding medical care, Dr. Lichtash has been a great disappointment, because most of her advice was of little value to me.  Some of her advice appears to be common sense, such as eating less & exercising more to lose weight.  Other advice appears highly questionable to me, such as lengthy fasting for 24 hours at a time.  An out-patient who follows this fasting advice likely puts himself/herself at risk of dehydration & other medical complications, such as cardiovascular incidents.  This type of advice appears to be more appropriate for a hospitalized in-patient, whose blood pressure & other vital signs can be continuously monitored by medical professionals.  Dr. Lichtash discussed her protocol/plan for lengthy fasting in a professional article which she has listed on both her own website (www.drlichtash.com) & her "LinkedIn" profile.  Her article is entitled, "Therapeutic use of intermittent fasting and ketogenic diet as an alternative treatment for type 2 diabetes in a normal weight woman: a 14-month case study."  To read this article, I clicked on the article name on the "LinkedIn" profile of Dr. Lichtash.  This article is a case study of only one patient.  Since the article is, essentially, an anecdote about only one patient, its value for research & support for use of lengthy/extended fasting is extremely limited.  The article states that the patient was first prescribed lengthy fasting for 24 hours at a time three times a week and later engaged in lengthy fasting for 42 hours at a time three times a week.  The article states that the patient was monitored during periodic visits with the physician.  However, the article does NOT indicate that the patient was monitored in any continuous way during her periods of fasting.  The article also does NOT indicate that the patient was actively monitored by a medical professional during time periods between her visits with her physician.  In my opinion, the protocol/plan of Dr. Lichtash for lengthy fasting of 24 hours at a time appears to be very medically questionable.  Needless to say, I did not follow the advice of Dr. Charlene Lichtash. read more

I can't say enough about Dr. Lichtash. She responds to all of my e-mails in a timely fashion. She even went as far as to call me from her home although she was sick with barely a voice. She spent an ample amount of time with me on the phone explaining all of the meds I needed to travel out of the country. My prescriptions were filled and ready for pick up within an hour. Again, she did all of this from her home while she was sick herself. She has exceeded all of my expectations. When she's not available to see me, I've seen Dr. Rasack in her office. Dr. Lichtash is the most caring, patient, and honest doctor I have ever had. She really listens to your medical problems and finds out the best solution for you not because its the fastest or the easiest but because its what is best for you. I was dangerously close to becoming a diabetic and she helped me fix that. Dr. Lichtash mentioned intermittent fasting and it was the first time I had heard of this method for reducing your blood glucose. I started out with a hemoglobin A1c of 5.8 and by using the methods given to me I was able to lower it to 5.3. Dr. Lichtash told me that by cutting out dairy, refined sugars, and carbohydrates I would successfully reverse my sugar levels to normal. That along with the intermittent fasting helped me so much in my life that I need to write a review because she has improved my quality of life. read more

Finally thought I found a Dr. to stick with. My first appointment went great, responded to all of my emails quickly. Understanding Drs are busy, I call in April to schedule a physical in July/August. Only to be told she isn't taking any physical appointments until 2019. What's the point in having a go to GP, if you can't see them. If your looking for long term, look elsewhere. read more

I have been to see Dr. Lichtash three times as my primary doctor retired and I needed a new GP. Unfortunately, I made a poor choice. She has been extremely disrespectful of my time in that every time I have seen her without fail she has been an hour or more late for my appt. She overbooks/overschedules and while she is apologetic, it is not respectful of my time (or others) and I am never informed of her lateness until I'm already in her office waiting on a table. If I were to be that late for an appointment she would charge me and my insurance and would not see me because I had missed my time. Where is my recourse for her being late? In addition, at my last appointment she didn't even READ my chart before she came in to see me. She was completely incorrect on several items which was a problem as the chart was right in front of her! What is worse, is that she asked me if I wanted certain blood tests run (Thyroid which I had already had run the week prior which was ON THE CHART SHE DIDN'T READ and an STD test which I said wasn't necessary and NOT to run). Dr. Lichtash ran the UNAUTHORIZED TESTS anyway - one of which was an HIV test which requires my specific authorization and she came back and said it tested positive when that is in no way possible. So the stress I am under for no reason and the fact I have to go find another doctor to run tests which my insurance will be charged for which I didn't authorize due to her incompetency is ridiculous. It is ILLEGAL for her to run such tests without my authorization and I am livid that she did so. I called to speak with her and she is apparently suddenly on a leave of absence - which I hope is to find her medical degree. I will NEVER see this doctor again and recommend nobody else sees her either. read more

I previously had Dr. Lichtash as my PCP when I worked at Cedars-Sinai. She was amazing, friendly, attentive, and thorough. She thoroughly assessed my family history and my medical history before getting to my physical for grad school. When she was unsure about something, she told me that she would follow up and let me know. She found out the information after my appointment with her, and she called me in the evening to inform me of the information that I needed to finish my physical. She follows through on what she says and, as a patient, I appreciate that. When I saw her after I got rear-ended and had back pain, she was thorough with assessing all my body systems that could be affected by the accident before giving me suggestions and medications for treating the back pain. For all the appointments that I had with her, she listened to all my concerns and answered the questions well. My first visit with Dr. Lichtash was not for an annual appointment, but she still took the time as if it was one. I did not feel rushed at all and she asked me a lot of questions when trying to determine what was going on with me. Her bed side manner was excellent and I could tell she really cared about me as a patient. The icing on the cake was when she called me well after normal office hours to send my prescription to my pharmacy and coordinated with me to make sure I could get it that night.
