Chef Brian's seasonal tapas are worth planning around. Both the whites and reds were outstanding. The sparkling passion fruit and lighter wines had great aroma and freshness; the reds and blends were rich without being heavy. We left with some bottles. Do the vineyard tour to the top of the mountain if it's available. You get a ride from the lower vineyard through the forest and past the ponds up to the upper vineyard at about 2,400 feet. The views at the top are worth the time. Tasting fee is reasonable and waived with a bottle or better yet, become a member and get access to the special events and the vineyard tour. We came for the Pinot Noir, but found only one in the tasting. Grenache Blanc, Grenache, Barbera, and Syrah were our other sips. We needed a prepaid reservation. When I arrived, I was the only one in the tasting room, and I was offered tasting after tasting, paired with things like cheese, crackers, popcorn, salami, you know, things that go really well with wine. Very generous pours for tasting, and I was able to purchase some wine to go home with me. Being from Hawaii, we are used to paying shipping so, I asked what it would cost to ship it home, lets just say I could've bought another plane ticket to have that box come home via fedex. I asked if they pack for planes, and hooray for that! Just the cost of luggage, a much more reasonable option. Definitely enjoying the wine, and hopefully I'll be able to return sometime soon.

Ruggero is always hospitable and never forgets his club members as we appreciate his excellent vintner skills. Flavor-wise, the gorgonzola fig was everyone's favorite, by far. The fig, cheese and spicy arugula was just perfect. We held the walnuts. Tracy took care of us and we loved our tasting. Our designated driver was treated to an Arnold Palmer, much better than just his usual bottle of water. I thought their wines were pretty reasonably priced, even for non-members. You need to buy at least $60 worth of wine to waive the $15 tasting price - I appreciate that they put that right at the top of the menu so there's no guessing. The tasting was really generous with good pours so even if we hadn't bought wine I would have felt it was worth it. Tracy took great care of us, answering all our questions and keeping our water and wine glasses filled. It was a wonderful, relaxing day on the beautiful property.

It's a cute little winery with small indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seating and a deck. The inside is cute and cozy inside. The wine tasting is $15 it is waived with wine purchase. We tried several different wines and my favorites it's the Rose, Rafiki and the Jamba. I did at the end I did end up getting the up getting the Rose, it is so refreshing. We brought our own food for a picnic with friends and they do have upcoming events. I've never had Kenyan food so I plan on trying it at their event in August. If you haven't been to Mellowood vineyards you are definitely missing out on some delicate wines.
