Made several mistakes on our tax return that took a long time to sort out. TurboTax has been cheaper and more accurate.

Thanks. 2) I was able to reach my accountant on the phone easily during the peak season, and he gave me a quick answer in a few hours - during the weekend. Still, my experience was less than satisfactory. (1) The return that the team prepared had two mistakes, which I spotted and saved myself 6,000$. This is the exact opposite of H&R Block Second Look - I was the second look! (2) There was an additional mistake that triggered a review by IRS, which costed me $200 (refunded by Dimov, as mentioned). You don't want to get reviewed by IRS. (3) Even if I started uploading my documents early, big stuff in February and March 3 (with some small updates for few hundred dollars coming later), the return was ready only on April 6, and the signature docs only on April 8. Add the weekend, and we got REALLY close to the deadline. They even suggested filing for an extension... due to their own delay. (4) My accountant was incorrect about the safe harbor and about AMT cost basis. It took multiple messages to clarify the issues, and one question was eventually escalated to his manager, who initially missed the point and gave me an unrelated answer. After multiple messages, where I quoted the tax law, we were at last in agreement. (5) The free Q4 2025 tax estimate took a month (from Nov 7 to Dec 4) after being bounced from one person to another. I ended up doing it myself and it was just double-checked by their team. (6) The team used this Q4 estimate in my return, instead of the actual values from the previous year, requiring me to scan the return line by line to find incorrect data. (7) Through the process, I received messages from 13 different people. Only one of them appears on LinkedIn or any Google search. Draw your own conclusion about this. (8) They offered me a tax-estimate package where they would help me estimate my quarterly payments. This was priced as 3 hours at 360$. Does it take 3 hours to scrape a few bank statements for data (AI is really good and fast) or 3 hours to run their software on these numbers? Come on, this is 2026. Really, not what I was expecting.

Don't worry I already said in my first edit that I will never have the pleasure of knowing your service. This should issue should have been closed a long time ago ending with my original review of your intake service call, but glad to know you're spending so much of your precious time disputing my yelp review. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd Edit: I don't recall ever asking for a free 1 hour consultation. I simply asked if you guys could help me to which again a simple no would have sufficed because no matter how simple it was there would be no time, right? If there was no intention of taking on my case there wouldn't be need for you to clarify that you had a $350/hr fee and that you can't put other businesses on hold for me. Again there was no misunderstanding here, it was blatant disrespect in the crudest fashion. I'd understand if I caught you on a bad day, I'm a person too, but to keep justifying your tone and behavior is frankly insulting. I did reach out via chat first and received an immediate unavailable which prompted me that it might have been an answering bot and wanted to see if that was the case -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit: I called in for an inquiry, if you are busy or I inquired too late you can simply say no sorry we are unable to take your case, which is perfectly acceptable. I did not appreciate the condescending tone of telling me if I had came to you guys earlier, completely unnecessary. Finally you do not have to appreciate my review but your business is viewed as a whole from start to finish and that includes the inquiry process. You might be the best at what you do but because of this experience I will never have the pleasure of knowing that service. Hope this helps. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Called in and had a pretty terrible time with the person on the phone. I was asking if they are able to help me with an individual tax filing, and was replied with "we are at capacity". Perfectly reasonable explanation so I said "oh okay so you guys are busy", to which the person on the phone said "well we'd need need to file an extension and the fees that are associated with that would have to be calculated afterwards..." I was confused why I'd need an extension since it's 2 weeks till the deadline still and got hit with "well we have 500 clients we're trying to get out the door and if you had came to us earlier..." how many people that their firm is trying to get out the door seems irrelevant to my inquiry. They also said "well we charge $350 an hour and I can't put my other clients on hold for an hour just for your case" So basically I'm not paying them enough to have the dedicate even 1 hour, and doesn't matter how much it is an hour if I agree to it then I should also get the same level of service as everyone else. But again if you don't have time that's totally understandable I told them that a simple "we don't have time" would have been an adequate response, and it still would have been perfectly reasonable but instead of just telling me a straight answer they kept trying to justify why they can't help me with my filing and how busy they are, and how many clients they have. All seems pretty irrelevant to what I was originally calling for, ultimately I got a "Well I'm just gonna say we don't have time and leave it at that.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot recommend James Associates for accounting or tax related services. As a new business…read morecustomer, James Associates filed my corporate federal and state tax returns so late that I was assessed over $2000 in penalties and interest. My W-2's were also provided so late that I had to file for an extension. The IRS code on the late issuance of W-2 forms allows for much higher penalties had they been informed of the late W-2 issuance. The late payment of the $456 MA corporate tax I incurred could have been avoided by informing me that the payment was due in March rather than waiting until October to tell me it was due. For reasons that are still not completely clear to me, after speaking with people in the MA DOR corporate and personal tax offices, I was informed that I would be required to file an additional Mass corporate return for the next year even though my returns were marked final indicating that I was ceasing business operations at year's end. When I mentioned this to James Associates they confirmed that I would need to file again for the following year even though I had clearly stated verbally and in writing well before the due dates that I intended to cease doing business in the current filing year. Because the Mass corporate return is derivative of the federal return I was obligated to do an additional federal and state return for the following year even though the IRS had confirmed that no additional return would be necessary. Realizing in March that James Associates was not going to issue my W-2 or have my corporate return completed in time to for me to estimate my personal tax liability, I dropped off a letter in early March requesting assistance on estimating my personal tax liability so I could avoid underpayment penalties. I got no response so I did my own W-2 and federal 1120S and provided those forms to H&R Block so they could estimate my tax liability. I also submitted my versions of the W-2 and 1120S forms to James Associates in the hope that it would expedite their completion of the filings. The filings were made 7 months later in the last week of the extension period for personal tax returns. The W-2 and 1120S filed were identical, from a tax perspective, to the versions of the forms that I had provided in March. Having incurred a significant number of business expenses in the year after closure I spoke to an IRS representative who informed me that the IRS would accept corporate expenses incurred after closure of the business as offsetting personal income. But they qualified this by saying I should consult with a tax professional. Reluctantly I called James Associates and asked if Rich James was in. The receptionist said he was and asked who was calling. I identified myself and waited much longer than it should have taken to transfer my call. The receptionist finally returned and informed me Rich was not in although she thought he was. I informed her that I had been advised by the IRS to talk to a tax professional regarding business expenses incurred after business closure related to my personal return and that James Associates was familiar with all of the information pertinent to this question. I never got a call back. Fortunately I was able to find a Tax office within walking distance of Davis Square who freely gave me advice on the above as well as how to get the business closed in the eyes of the MA DOR and on how to possibly receive an abatement on one of the penalties I was assessed. Finally I reached out to a friend who is a member of the Mass Bar Association who worked in his father's accounting firm when he was young. He advised me to request that James Associates provide me with information regarding their liability insurance policy so I could make a claim against it for the penalties and extra expenses incurred. I submitted this request in writing. After waiting several months with no response I finally dropped off a letter documenting my dissatisfaction and giving James Associates a chance to respond before I documented my experience on Yelp. Predictably I got no response.
