A great little small clean theatre. I am glad my first Blue man group experience was in an intimate setting like this. my only complaint is that the bathroom (singular) is really small and the side seats have obstructed views of the stage because of support poles and bad angles. read more

There's a FULL service bar IN the theater and they will serve you, in delicate plastic cups, before the show and during intermission. i accompanied neil z. to charles playhouse (or rather dragged him there for a birthday party). we both were happy it didn't have a swarm of 18 year olds outside like the bar down the street. the karaoke was okay. its usually boring if you don't know the person on stage... as to be expected. i disagree with Neil's D). Perhaps the beer selection wasn't the best, but the bartender did whip up some delicious birthday drinks and peach martinis. I probably won't make it here again unless it's for another birthday party -where there's no other choice. oh well... i'd rather play rock band than sing karaoke. read more

Too bad the owners of this organization wont make their theater Wheelchair accessible! I believe there are 25 stairs to go up in order to see a show. We called to complain many times and pretty much get blown off. I guess you are not welcome to see Blue Man Group if you are disabled. The Americans with Disabilities Act was passed in I think 1990, they have had 21 years to make this theater accessible. The sad part is that when asked, I am told they have no plans to make it accessible. read more

I went to see Blue Man Group here last night. (Awesome Yelp Elite event!) I hadn't been to the show in quite a few years.. The theatre itself is quite small. It seems a bit old and run down, probably only because this show can get crazy messy. I'm sure it's not easy cleaning this place every night, hence the reason why Blue Man Group actually owns the theatre.. I did have a beer at the lounge before the show, and I have to say this bar is a bit dark and depressing. I don't think I would hang out there, but I will go back to see Blue Man Group again & again! read more

Been here for both Shear Madness and Blue Man Group. Great little venue with a full bar and entertaining performances. Tickets are reasonably priced, especially if you go through one of those vendors that sells last minute tickets that are half off. If I had to choose, I'd say Shear Madness was the superior performance, however both were enjoyable in their own right. There's a lot of great restaurants in the nearby area (Chinatown/Downtown Crossing area) so I can see this being an ideal date idea. Same with other performances in the surrounding theater houses. read more

A cozy theater that hosts an awesome show- the Blue Man Group. I agree with Carey: I have ushered three times for Blue Man Group, and its great every time. And its also a good deal if you're tight on cash and want to see a fun show. Just make sure you call a bunch in advance- they say they like to schedule the ushers a few weeks in advance. Also, the people that write the script for the show change it up from time to time, because the last time i went to usher, there were some new (and funny) elements to the show, so it was a nice surprise for me. read more

Went to see the Blue Man Group this weekend and I was surprised how small this theater is. When we arrived for the show, the ushers were somewhat aggressive in asking us to wait in the bar/lounge area rather than by the stairs where we'd go up to our seats, but the lounge is not nearly big enough for all guests to wait in. The decor is cool though. The theater itself was somewhat nice because even the "bad" seats were pretty close to the stage and had good views. read more

I cannot believe no one has mentioned the awesome karaoke that is here on Friday nights! The DJ is so nice and I got to break in Duran Duran's "Come Undone" with his blessing (I knew so many of the words by heart, scared me a little). The video clips are hilarious (what does a 70s model or a cukoo cukoo clock have to do with Johnny Cash's I walk the Line???) and once in a while a singer comes on who really can belt it. Great and casual for large groups and there are a lot of regulars, but not intimidating at all. A lot of bartenders on staff, great selection and intimate place to all get rowdy in. I just wish it was on another night besides Friday since not much do in downtown and expensive to get back to JP by taxi. read more

I don't even know how to write this review. Let's start with the pros..... .Amazing House Manager....he was so incredibly pleasant and helpful! .The history of the building is breathtaking CONS: .The Blue Man Group was horrifying.....blood, guts, nose scan, giant cell phones.....just dumb and not worth the money .We were pulled out of our seats because they thought we were with a girl that had been pulled on stage (even though my husband and I both said, on two occasions, that we were NOT). We ended up missing the encore. The entire experience was incredibly horrible. Even as we were outside after we were pulled from our seats we could see that people were walking out looking mildly confused and very disappointed. Unfortunately, this may prevent us from ever going there again and we will NEVER recommend going to see Blue Man Group. read more

I have seen both the Blue Man show & Shearmadness. Always get really good seats despite the fact that the tickets have been complementary. Anywhere you seat you would have a good view of the shows. Its a very small and intimate venu which is perfect, at least for me. The staff is also super friendly and attentive. I have had a great time at both shows and for that I always recommend them. read more

It's a nice, small venue. As the home of Blue Man Group, I'm glad that it's bringing people in. It's kind of hidden in the theater district, but good directions on their website don't lead you astray. The staff is nice, and they serve alcohol. I definitely would like to see some smaller plays and other productions here, due to its more intimate set up. read more

not quite sure how to review this place. i saw blue man group yesterday at this venue and it was a great show. seating was decently comfortable, plenty of props, i like how they were able to elevate the band and the staff was pretty efficient and friendly. i wish they had a larger bathroom but overall you can't complain. the place had character, not the fanciest place in the world but perfect for a weekend show out of the blue. pun intended. read more

A block from the theatre district, this venue attracts all sorts of "off Broadway" performances. They have recently renovated and restructured for a younger crowd, lots of lights, sound and comfy seats. The excellent staff are courteous and professional. I noted that they handled several extraordinary situations, just prior to curtain, gracefully and most effectively. read more

Very hard to find its tucked away on a side back alley so keep your eyes open. Ive been a few times for Blue Man. Its old, so if your looking for an clean,upscale place this is NOT it. It needs some renovating badly. The bar is sketchy and drinks are served in plastic cups.The shows were good but it wish the theatre was in decent shape. read more

Can someone please explain to me why the Charles Playhouse is not ADA accessible?

I recently went to the Blue Man Group with my mom who is in a wheelchair. I can not speak more highly of the staff at Charles Playhouse as well as Sheer Madness next door. After an hour ride to get there we still had a half hour before we could get in. Mom had to use the bathroom and they let us in to use it and let us stay inside until the doors opened (it was snowing) They made sure my mom was comfortable before, during and after the show. After everyone was gone the staff stayed later until my son brought the car around for us. If you are thinking of going here and you have someone in your party in a wheelchair do not hesitate!! The staff and even the blue men (came to my mom to take a picture!) Great job Charles Playhouse!!! read more

Due to inclement weather our Bostix tickets to Blue Man Group had been rescheduled 3 times. When we arrived at the theater for the 3rd rescheduled performance we were told the performance had been cancelled and that they had no record of our 3rd reschedule and therefore we weren't notified. After going back and forth between Bostix and Blue Man (niether would acknowledge the error and reschedule us) we came across Meredith at the Charles Playhouse. Bostix and Blue Man you can take lessons in customer service from her. This is how to conduct business and insure a satisfied customer and a great review. read more

The show was the best. I was a little sad because when we were walking to the theater and we got in,the size supprised me. I was expecting a much larger theater like 3 floors but overall the show was good. It's a good show. For kids because it's funny and the music is just breathtaking. Don't sit in the poncho section because they throw twinkies at you and it's disgusting. read more

They got rid of the PBR because no one else liked it; otherwise, I would have given that fifth star. They have a karaoke show on Friday night. Jimmy the DJ does a great job, and it is an entertaining show. The service is very good. Lauren is a great bartender. They have a bar and tables and chairs on one side. There are couches to lounge on on the other side. They don't have a place to hangup your coat, so people sometimes pile the coats onto Mark's table. There is a core set of regulars, and then there is a meetup group that meets there once in a while. The sock puppet, Bary Karaoke, is hilarious. read more

ok, to be honest, this was my third time seeing blue man group....not a fan of the auto-seat-picker...but thats the least of my worries...the issue is: i had a very unenjoyable experience last night....people werent even drinking, but yet someone threw up, one person had a very obnoxious laugh and he was taking away from the show, so much so that the blue men had to bang on the pipes even harder just to try to drown him out....then there was an ejection of sorts....the house manager [the one in the red sox scarf] come and disrupted the show, and made us focus more on that than on the show...and then the curiosity factor added to that........ it was my fiancee's birthday, and it was greatly ruined. i am very unhappy. blue men are great---but they need to work on smoothing out the operations or they're gonna lose some business...i know they lost mine read more

We saw the blue man group here on saturday night. The show itself was decent. The Charles Playhouse just seemed sketchy to me. The crowd was a bit rough around the edges. The bar scene was the most depressing thing I've ever seen in my life. People standing around drinking silently in a dingy, smelly wierd lounge like place. At least the drinks were cheap. read more

so the bar isn't gorgeous, but when you're going to see the uproarious "Trials of Love" you really won't care. "Judge" Mike Dorval invites a couple on stage and he will solve some major relationship issue for them. Right there, on stage. Mike does a great job of keeping the audience from going to any really embarrassing or inappropriate questions while still allowing plenty of hilarity. The lightning round at the end will astound you as he solves audience members' problems in less than one minute! It's all true. Mike saved my marriage, he could save yours. Or, if nothing else, you'll have a great night out and laugh a whole lot. read more

Saw Shear Madness earlier in the day and we were thinking about going to a movie when we saw the sign for Trials of Love and said "Let's be lazy and stay here!" Glad we did! It was sort of bizarre in a good way. We were nervous when it started because there were only about 30 people there but it rocked! Mike is the love judge (doctor?) and has a couple with an argument and settles it there on stage. SO FUNNY! Then he solved every problem in the audience...and we won a dinner! read more

Be very very careful choosing your seats!!! Some seats have very limited view of the stage and no view of the band for the Blue Man Group show. Neither the Playhouse nor TicketMaster clearly point out how bad the view is. Very disappointed!!!!!!!!!! read more

I took my son to see Blueman group last evening and I'm left with one big wow!!! The performance was phenomenal! We sat in the poncho section, front row. They give u plastic ponchos to wear, and I'm very thankful I had mine on! I don't want to give too much away...but sit in front if you can...the Blueman created a painting with their splash drums and walked over and handed it to my son...what a souvenir!!! Very family friendly. The lounge is cool for preshow drinks and you can bring beverages to your seat. They also have wait staff that will take your order as your seated in the theater...pretty cool and convenient for some. The staff at the theater where more than pleasant and helpful, ensuring all had a good experience. Park at 200 Stuart St garage, it's the parking garage for the Revere hotel. Bring your parking ticket to the Box office before the show and they give you a deal for $10.00 parking for 5 hours...amazing deal in any city!! Ok..so now it's time to stop reading and so purchase those tickets....you won't regret it!! read more
