I love the Charles Tyrwhitt brand. I do 99.99 percent of my shopping online. Why? All of these stores cater to slim sizes. Charles Tyrwhitt invented their own size, "Super Slim". Who the HELL is wearing a super slim shirt? I have an outrageous dad bod, I need the "Classic" cut thankyoueverymuch. The store is deceiving, it's not that large. I walk in and I'm greeted by the salesman. When I make a left, the store abruptly ends. I see I'm in the slim and extra slim section. I make an about face and ask where the sales section is located. Now things turn for the sales guys, they went from helpful to not so helpful. They point to few items, I actually found a nice sweater at 40% off. Score one for team Bill S! I grab my sweater and ask about tee shirts. They point to the rack and all I see are the damn super slim shirts. My wife asks about different sizes, I feel like I'm getting the brush off from these dudes. They said something incoherent when I asked about my size. While my wife was looking for my size, the rack came apart! And she found my size! Sorry about that.. I pay for my items, of course I ask for a military discount which they gave to me. This is germane to shirts ordered online from Charles Tyrwhitt. Buying from a brick-and-mortar retail outlet will give the buyer much more information. After seeing Chrles Tyrwhitt online ads for several years, I ordered three oxford-cloth button down long-sleeve shirts from them. The sizes are those used for casual clothing, and I ordered "medium." The shirts were relatively affordable, 3/$95, plus another $36 for breast pockets. They appear to be well made--plackets, seams straight, generous tuck in tails, etc. However, they were much bigger than "medium"--I would say almost "large." The worse feature is the cloth, made in Bangladesh, I think, of 100% cotton, neither Sanforized nor perma-press. As a result, after washing, the shirts had to be completely irone; even after ironing, they did not look crisp or wrinkle-free. And, though smaller, were still too big. Comparing them to, say, J C Penney's house brand oxford cloth men's shirts, , they were a very poor second--perhaps third or fourth. read more

I am walking down Connecticut Ave. and see there's a sale at Tyrwhitt, an upscale haberdasher from Jermyn St. in London, the motherlode of haberdashers. I start looking unsuccessfully for my size shirt so I can buy some. I don't look like a street person. I am wearing a nice suit and better tie. After 10 minutes and not a single word acknowledgement from a clerk, I left with my money intact and without a new shirt -- this in a store the size of a living room-dining room in an apartment. I vacillated as to how many stars to put in. I *love* the Tyrwhitt brand and would give it 5 stars. The customer service at this store is so abysmal, I give it -10. I decided to give it two stars but, quite frankly, I would rather shop online. As others have mentioned, good luck getting a salesperson's attention at this store. They won't acknowledge you, and that's quite a feat given that it's such a small store. I was there this past week and left after being utterly ignored for 15 minutes. I took a store business card on the way out and sent the manager an e-mail regarding my experience. No response. Too bad. I stopped in earlier today to take advantage of the clearance sale they were having. The items on the website looked really sharp so I decided to stop by and give it a gander in person; more importantly, to see if the items would fit. Immediately when I walked into the store I was greeted by a gentleman whose name I cannot recall. He initially helped me look at a few suits and find a suit that would properly fit; he was super helpful. The real star of this review is James! James was extraordinarily helpful. From helping me look at items that I would feel comfortable in, to challenging me to look at a few shirts that were a little bit out of my comfort zone, James really did it all. Katie also offered her opinion on a few fits which I definitely appreciated. The store is very well kept (that almost goes without saying) and the staff are all extremely attentive and patient. When I was checking out there was an annoying/obnoxious customer that was checking out simultaneously. The patience that the manager displayed in dealing w/ this customer was more than I could ever muster. Awesome staff and awesome store. No complaints. read more

My friend and I walked in the store with the mission to look VERY good at a wedding the same night. We had an idea what we wanted/needed but had a very good discussion with the sales staff and ended up with a much better deal than we could have ever imagined ourselves. We got help picking out very nice ties (instead of bow ties) and measured shirts that fit us both perfectly. And I mean, who can say no to a sales person that encourages you to get that shirt that really shows off one's results from the gym? :-) Staff was efficient, skilled, good sense of colors, steamed our shirts so we were ready to go, and did a great job in helping us out beating the grooms on being the best looking at the wedding! read more

I bought a custom suit from here prior to covid-19. It takes about a month for them to make it. I believe it's made in the U.K. and shipped back to the states. Be prepared to enter the twilight zone. Arrived on a Saturday afternoon and immediately started browsing for suits. For a small, specialty store, there was no acknowledgment from the sales staff that I had arrived and perhaps needed assistance. They saw me and just kept walking by, even though there was only one other customer in the store. I looked through racks of suits and after a while, this very young, dapper clerk with a British accent asked if I had any questions. I was already trying on a couple of jackets. I told him that the one I was trying on looked weird, with the jacket at the waist flaring out. He simply said that the style was "defective." He didn't say that the jacket I was trying on was "defective" and that I should try on another one from the rack. Why would someone who works there say that their clothing was defective? And as a sales clerk, he should have provided more explanation and perhaps offered another style, or another jacket to try on. Instead, he offered one or two word responses to my questions and was clearly not interested in being helpful. Frustrated, I ignored him and he quickly left. Another clerk then asked me if I needed help, and I told him that the young, dapper clerk was not being helpful at all, and perhaps he was not helpful because he was having a bad day. Anyway, this other clerk helped me out, and he was much more conversational. I ended up buying two suits and had them tailor it to fit better. After a week or so, I began playing phone tag with the store because they wouldn't leave messages for me as to when my suits were ready to pick up. When I finally got a hold of them, the clerk spoke as if he didn't want to check on the status of my suits and didn't want to help at all. Eventually, it took about two weeks for my suits to be tailored (rather expensively), and I quickly went to the store, picked up my suits, and left as quickly as possible. The management at this store needs to train its staff better. That's all I can say. read more

I've been a CT customer for over a decade but that came to an end last month. My wife bought me a suit from these guys. I took it in bc it wasn't the right size. The sales folks sold me an upgrade which I thought would be good for them and I liked the suit - a luxury suit as they said. The pants ripped twice. Then they said the suit wasn't being sold any more and I was screwed on fixing the pants. I ended up buying another 'travel' suit from them just bc I needed a grey suit. Im wearing the suit now and the blazer is too tight and the pants too loose. Bottom line - CT in London does a great job, not these folks. They stink at customer service and don't know how to keep loyalty. Bye bye CT. I hate writing bad reviews but just have to for them. So impersonal and I don't have time to deal with them. I'm surprised at the negative reviews--perhaps the scathing Yelp reviews helped them turn around because I had a very different experience than most others here. I came in dressed down and looking to purchase a suit that was on sale, but they treated me like I was shopping for a $1000 suit. The associate was attentive and thoughtful, and he helped me find the least expensive -- but nicest looking -- clothing for my budget. Furthermore, when I needed alterations, they had them to me by the next day. I came back to the store again a few weeks later, and I had the same experience. I ordered three white dress shirts and paid extra for monogramming. I received the dress shirts and The monogramming wasn't on the shirt. Later I discovered the monograms were there and they were in white. When I reached out to the company they stated I ordered and paid extra for monogramming with white letters. Has anyone in the history of ordering white dress shirts ever ordered white monograms? Anyone? A poor customer service response would have been just a refund the cost of the monogramming and excellent customer service would have been to replace the shirts with a color that's visible, but this company chose to do neither! That's incredibly poor customer service and therefore the one star review. read more

I got a nice promotional offer for shirts, which is the only reason I found out about this place. They didn't have shirts in my size, but were really great about ordering them. Shirts look nice. I haven't tried them. The ties are really nice, and have the most competitive pricing I've seen. They aren't in the size I asked for. I will have to get that tailored if I can. The customer service is shit, and I'm putting that mildly. They first got my name wrong...after I spelled it out for them twice. They then rushed me out of the door before I could check my order. The order they gave me wasn't mine. So when I returned, the clerk actually said, "You again?" Yeah. Me again. I don't want to be complicit in stealing someone else's shirts. When I spelled my name for them again the dude had the audacity to say "That's a stupid name." Get your cheap shirts if you can. Don't come here if you don't know what you're looking for, these people won't help you. No matter the quality of the shirt, it does nothing to mitigate the atrocious customer service. Before I begin this review, I was bit bummed that Charles Tyrwhitt is now a main steam brand. I was hoping that it stay under the radar and I can enjoy their quality shirts. But I guess I have to share with thousands of wealthy Washingtonians now. I've a buyer of CT shirts since 2009. Most of my shirts and ties are from CT catalog and I order online straight from UK. It used to take about two weeks for package to arrive, but their customer service is superb so I was able to make return/exchanges at no charge. I was excited when they announced they would open a retail store in DC. I was eager to check them up and did so last night. Before checking them out with my own eyes, I stopped by Yelp and read two previous reviews and both awarded 1 stars. Both seemed to have been disappointed about their customer service and not the product. I went in around 6PM. There were two sharp gentlemen dressed with CT brands from head to toe. One immediately had an eye-contact with me and greeted. He didn't say "WELCOME TO CT SHIRTS! HOW MAY I ASSIST YOU??" but more of "Hi, how are you?" type of greeting. That was fine by me, actually I would have been freaked out if a well-suited gentlemen greet me with such an excitement. The store is pretty small but has everything you can find online. I especially like the retail store because I can check out their selection of ties and touch them. They're just too darn expensive to buy at regular price, so I'll have to wait until they go sale. The shirts selection seem to be missing little bit. But that's okay given the store size limit. They do have great suit selection in the back, so that's a great plus. I never considered buying a suit from CT, but maybe I can check them out. The price seem to be reasonable from $300 to $500 - at least the ones I checked out. They could use more size availability. Some were missing and I didn't know if they ran out or have storage room in the back. The price is same as online tags. But you'll be hit with 10% DC sales tax, so be careful when shopping here. Online, you'll just pay shipping fee (sometimes free) and have to wait few weeks to get to you. If you can bare the wait, it would be wiser to shop online. There were about dozen of so womens shopping, I assume they were their for their husbands and boyfriends, the two gentlemen working there assisted them properly and answered all the questions. I didn't find anything wrong with the sales associate working. And no, I am not one of those two working there. Overall, it wasn't so bad like previous feedback. Maybe I had a low expectation going in with two reviews read, but I think I'll be coming here more often, but keep in mind that I'm also a fan of CT brand. read more

I bought a couple of shirts here for my husband. Great quality, nice fit. Unfortunately terrible customers service. The guys that work here are horrible. I convinced my husband to go and buy more shirts and ties from here because the quality was good and I thought maybe they were just really busy the first time. So we decided to stop by today. We walk in and there is a guy standing in the middle of the store. My husband asked, where can he find certain shirts. The guy just looked at him and walked away and pointed to the shirts stack generally. No words at all. Unfortunately, nothing changed. Then when my husband asked questions about a specific shirt no one had an answer and they were like mmm we don't really know, look online. They didn't know where specific sizes were located in the store and they were rude to us and other customers. This older guy in the store couldn't deal with them and left very upset. I hope they are working to improve their customer service. We were about to walk out of the door when we heard someone asking if we found what we were looking for. It was a young lady named Francesca, she was the only one in the store that was willing to help. We told her about how bad their customer service was and she apologized and helped us find everything we were looking for. Unfortunately, she's a student and will only be working at the store for the summer. They need more people like her at the store if they want to survive. Now that my husband knows which shirt styles he likes, we're only going to shop online. The attitude and inattentive ways of the majority of the sales associates will just ruin your day. read more

Not great. I stopped by today while shopping for a new suit. Having been to Jermyn street in London I was hoping to be met with commensurate quality, style and tailoring. I was disappointed. After 10 minutes, I was greater by one salesman. Then passed to another and another and another. After being passed from one salesman to another I started to feel like a fluffer in a 3rd rate adult film company. They didn't have my size and suggest that I shop online. I went in today with one shirt that I apparently bought more than 6 mos ago b/c it no longer fit for some reason--could no longer button the top button. All my other shirts fit fine, so I know it isn't me. Anyway, they told me "tough luck" even though I didn't want a new shirt, just an exchange. They are short-sighted. I'm sorry to hear that some people have been getting bad customer service here because I had a pretty positive experience when I dropped into this store. I was looking to buy a blazer or sports jacket, which the store unfortunately did not have in stock. The salesperson I spoke with did help me try on several suit jackets though so I could figure out my size and order the jacket I was looking for from Charles Tyrwhitt's website. The whole experience was quick and easy so I was quite pleased. In the past I've also ordered a couple of shirt's from CT's website and I was very happy with the quality that I got for the price. I wasn't quite sure what my size would be so I ordered two different sizes and sent back the one that didn't fit as well. The return process was easy and customer service was great. I have two annoyances with Charles Tyrwhitt that keep me from giving them five stars. The first is that the selection and inventory in their retail store isn't great. That wasn't that big a deal since they helped me find my size and I can just order the specific jacket I want online, but it would have been nice to see it in person before buying. Fortunately I know that they're great about returns. The other thing that's annoying about them are the insane full retail prices for some of their shirts. CT has perpetual sales/deals/specials offers on shirts so no sane individual would ever pay the full marked up price that they theoretically charge, but I wish they'd ditch that whole gimmicky pricing model. read more

Over the past year I have received a couple of Charles Tyrwhitt catalogs in the mail and been impressed by their selection but I have never placed an order. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they were opening a store a block from my office so I decided to give them a try. First, I must say that I was impressed by the availability of three different cuts (Classic, Trim, Tailored) and the seeming quality of the materials. It is also an attractive store -- shelves and shelves of shirts attractively arranged and it appears that they are all in order. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving - the shirts were not ordered by size as the labels might suggest. As the two prior reviewers have mentioned, the customer service at this store was dismal! Upon entering this store there appeared to be two sales people and one other customer. I was not greeted upon entering and after looking around for five minutes had to seek out an employee for an explanation of the different cuts and the arrangement of the store. Once that was provided that was the end of the customer service that I received until I had a question and again went looking for assistance. I employee eventually answered my question with a "We don't have it but we can order it for you," and promptly disappeared again. At that point I began to wonder why I was shopping at the store instead of purchasing online. I realize that this store is still new and it may take some time for the team find their rhythm. However, at this point they are barely providing customer service and completely missing opportunities for customer assistance. I have shopped at most of the other menswear stores within a few blocks (e.g. Jos. A Banks, J. Press, Brooks Brothers) and have always appreciated their pleasant service. Charles Tyrwhitt pales by comparison and I doubt I will shop there again. read more

Don't go here. Most of the staff have no idea what they are doing. Came in based on advertisements I had seen for their fitted suits that would be altered to personal sizing / preferences. The gentleman asssisting with the fitting seemed to have no idea what he was doing. Took measurements, but somehow screwed up the measurements, and spent time going through about 6 different sized jackets. Eventually find what they said was the best fitting jacket. It wasnt, but they said it could be altered to fit better. Ok, no issues there. My number one requirement was that I be able to have a lot more movement in the arms. I could raise my arms only a few inches. I asked if they could make it so I had a lot more flexibility. No issues they said (by the way, this was person number 4 who had come in to help the first person who was obviously new. Rather than have a single person serving me while training him, i guess i got the fly by help. Anyway, despite my concerns that they may not really know what they are talking about, I decided to go ahead and pay for the suit and alterations. They said they would call when it was ready in a few days. No Call. Two weeks later, I call them and find out its been sitting waiting for a week. Get told I must have missed the call???? Um, even if i missed the non-existent call, maybe leave a voice mail? Anyway, come in to pick up suit. Try it on. The arms seem to have little change in the movement. The biggest requirement I asked for in the damn jacket. After discussing with the lady who was there when I picked it up (only one who seemed to know what they were talking about), she advised it best if i came back another day when the tailor was there so we can fix it. Come in a couple days later, meet with tailor. Turns out that no, they cant actually adjust the suit that way. Its not made to be adjusted how i want it. So now I have a suit that is non-refundable because they altered it (even though the alterations didnt alter what I wanted them to fix) and doesnt fit the way i want it. Just a white elephant for my closet. Nothing but bad feeling and experience with this place. Avoid it. read more

This store, in particular, was very rude. We shop at the Chicago and NYC one often and my husband asked to try on a shirt and told yes. As he was deciding on the third and fourth ones, he asked a worker that wasn't helping him a question and instead of replying an answer he made a snarky comment saying, 'We don't usually allow customers to try on shirts.' This would have been fine, except another colleague already told him he could and brought him shirts, plus this wasn't the question! There's a dressing room and you can return them after trying them on at home- so all-in-all, unnecessary comment. Then another worker said in a rude tone, 'have a nice day' after my husband was leaving- without buying any because of the experience. Won't be back to this store. Shame. read more

I can't begin to describe how pleased I am that I stopped in to Charles Tyrwhitt...but I'll try! I received a catalog a few months ago and thought that it would make a nice stop on my recent D.C. trip. The store was small and very busy when I stopped in. James was my salesperson and he was very helpful and friendly. He measured me for a shirt, gave me some samples to try and made suggestions in terms of the size that would fit me just right. When I told him that I had had problems in the past with collars shrinking on my slim fit shirts, he advised me of how to have them laundered so that it would minimize shrinkage. I got a really great deal on the shirts and I get lots of compliments on them. I can't wait to buy more! read more

I own a few CT Shirts and plan to gradually get more as I phase out my older shirts. I feel they have a good price/quality standard. I've been to this store several times. I've experienced both good and bad customer service. I went to the store today since I'm interested in buying a new suit in the near future. I've never bought a CT suit before, so I wanted to familiarize myself with the way they fit. The 1st salesman that I got paired up with was not helpful at all. It felt like having to answer questions was bothering him. Whenever I encounter this attitude, I'm baffled. Especially, when there is a potential to spend $500.00. Luckily, I was later helped by Danny, who was very helpful and gladly answered my questions. The complete opposite of the 1st salesman. Danny helped me understand the different fits they have and determine my size. Above all, Danny was helpful and pleasant. When I can't find what I want in the store, I go online. I was told that if you have the salesman place your online order, you don't pay shipping. read more

We were a bit nervous after reading reviews about the customer service here but my fiancé knew he wanted his wedding suit from Charles Tyrwhitt so we didn't have much choice. Jarel is the solution to any customer service issue you may encounter. I noticed some other staff were not quite as engaging or personal but Jerel immediately noticed we may need some help, offered solutions for my fiancé's 6'3 height (longer arms but shorter torso), and stepped us through the whole process down to when the suit would be shipped and their tailor's schedule. There was another associate that helped to answer some of our detailed questions but I didn't catch his name but assume he was the manager. 35 min of wonderful customer service from Jarel and we were out of there with the suit, tie, shirt, and pocket square completely figured out. First, let me say that Charles Tyrwhitt is my favorite men's clothing store in the world. I was first introduced to your clothes and store while on one of my trips in London. I was thrilled when about a year plus ago, I noticed a DC store. I have been to this store many times. I own about 30 of your shirts, 15 pairs of cufflinks and 20 ties. I went in to day to buy 3 suits, 9 shirts, 4 ties and some socks. I had the best experience. I usually always have a great experience and I have often been helped by D. Herzog and was once again helped by him. He is amazing. Very helpful and just great service. The shirts have an amazing look and fit as do the suits. read more
