This organization is very patient oriented. I recently was referred by them to a surgeon for a specific need. I had issues that was in need of immediate attention since my surgeon appointment is not until the end of the month. I walked in just to ask a question as to what I can do in the interim since I was very concerned. They understood the issue and brought me back for a quick examination with Dr Gourdine. He was able to get over a prescription and other advice how to control the issue until I can see the surgeon. This was unbelievable. Nobody likes getting colonoscopies done, but they are a necessary part of taking care of your overall health. I absolutely cannot say enough positive things about this office and their team! Talk about making a person feel very comfortable, at ease and not like just another number. From the appointment booking, initial visit, checking in, to the actual procedure and check out... just wow! I felt respected, valued and like they actually cared about my wellbeing. The facilities are very modern, bright, clean and comfortable. The waiting area for your accompanying loved one is also welcoming. There is ample parking, fully wheelchair accessible with automatic doors. The icing on the cake? Receiving a thank you card from the office for having been a patient. This is my second procedure at this location and they have always been good experiences. The staff is very friendly and nice. They make you feel comfortable and relaxed. They always explain everything thoroughly and I never leave with questions because they do a great job upfront about everything to expect. I came in today and everything went well. I use Dr Patel,I have a long history of problems and have had terrible experiences. Today I arrived at there surgery center terrified . The help was great talked me down and doctor and help were fantastic . I now know that I was in Gods hands there . I had all of my paperwork done before I arrived. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and I didn't have to wait long before being placed in a room. This was my first time in this location. When I got there the young lady at the front desk was very welcoming. The young lady that called me back to my room was just as welcoming. I had a great experience with everyone that I came in contact with. Everyone was so very nice and made me feel very comfortable. Dr Basile came in to speak with me and the next thing I remembered was being woken up from my procedure. Dr. Marstellar saved my life twice. I had severe abdominal pain, the ER poo poo it. I was referred to Dr. Marstellar who immediately admitted me and three days later Gallbladder came out. Then he wanted me to have a colonoscopy which nobody ever says oh yay lets do that! But I finally gave in because he said he was worried since there is a family history of colon cancer. I went had the procedure and he found 29 polyps and some were pre cancerous. Had Dr. Marstellar not been persistent or cared about me this could have ended badly. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! The 1 star rating that I've posted doesn't address the medical expertise that Charleston GI possesses. Instead, it addresses the flaw in the firm's morality, the violation of a necessary trust that exists in any doctor/patient relationship and, without that basic bond of trust and good will, there is nothing left to continue a patient's comfort in moving forward in that relationship. I was hospitalized June 4th for a dangerous and stubborn elevation in my heart rate - one that required monitoring as well as treatment. Due to a previous condition it became necessary to do an upper and lower scoping of my digestive tract. The upper scoping required a hard plastic mouth guard to protect from my biting down on the scope itself while under anesthesia. Sometime during that procedure that mouth guard, whether during its installation or removal, was involved in breaking one of my front teeth. It broke below the gum line and I didn't notice this until I was wheeled back to my room. I raised this issue to the nurse/practitioner from Charleston GI on her visit to my room, showing her the tooth and its movement. She looked concerned and left the room. A couple of hours later Dr. Schatz from Charleston GI came into my room and, again, I told him how the tooth concerned me. Here are a couple of quotes from him during his visit that bear mentioning: One, "You signed the paper, didn't you?" and 2, "I didn't see it," inferring that if 'I didn't see it' it didn't happen. "I wasn't involved in it" was another. It became obvious that he took no responsibility and wasn't about to do or say anything as he turned on his heel and quickly left the room. Look, I didn't break my tooth. My being out of work means that it's going to be difficult to assume this additional dental payment along with the thousand dollar bill I just received from the hospital. But the thing that angers me the most is the absolute and complete denial of responsibility by the Doctor in charge, as if the almighty dollar rules the day instead of any sense of common decency. I've been in my own business for over 40 years. Boy, have I made some mistakes but I've never shirked from taking responsibility for them. I've found that it's the better policy to be morally responsible than in keeping the few dollars it costs to repair them. For that reason, I've enjoyed repeat business from my customers year after year. I will NOT be returning to Charleston GI. read more

I was referred by a coworker. I went to the office and was on time, had my paperwork and waited to be called. My vitals were taken and then I was placed in a room...and was left there an hour without anyone coming to check on me. After two inquiries about what was taking so long and still no doctor, I walked out. NO ONE called to apologize. On the hunt for another referral. read more

Worst day of my life January 27, 2012 thanks to Dr. Lee Royall who perforated my bowel and refused to acknowledge it, symptoms became worse but no help from him...18 months later I had to have a bowel resection due to a endometriosis implant that he pulled in. Worse place for women, all male doctors. He didn't bother to read the report from pathology (I did). Going on 5 years of agony, $40,000+ out of pocket, $300,000 + in lost income, countless Dr. Appointments trying to undo the damage he caused. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. Don't go there!!!!! . Doctor and staff don't care about you or your health. I had a really bad experience with scheduling my follow up appointment with my doctor. The colonoscopy procedure was done in September and Aaron offered me to schedule my next and only available appointment in the middle of December (!!!!!!).I had to step in and to request my appointment in October with Dr.Irion as I had some post complications after the procedure. After talking to Allison(MA) about my issues ,I finally got scheduled for October 17.I was so happy ,requested my time off at work , drove to Summerville location and the front desk lady informed me that my appointment was cancelled and Dr can not see me. Nobody called me about the cancelation ,I waisted my valuable time, was extremely disappointed how people treated me at Summerville GI and the front desk lady said :" Sorry you feel that way" after I said that I am done with them .
