This organization is very patient oriented. I recently was referred by them to a surgeon for a…read morespecific need. I had issues that was in need of immediate attention since my surgeon appointment is not until the end of the month. I walked in just to ask a question as to what I can do in the interim since I was very concerned. They understood the issue and brought me back for a quick examination with Dr Gourdine. He was able to get over a prescription and other advice how to control the issue until I can see the surgeon. This was unbelievable. Their ethics, patient understanding and 'Do no harm' is alive and well at this practice.

Talk about making a person feel very comfortable, at ease and not like just another number. From the appointment booking, initial visit, checking in, to the actual procedure and check out... just wow! I felt respected, valued and like they actually cared about my wellbeing. The facilities are very modern, bright, clean and comfortable. The waiting area for your accompanying loved one is also welcoming. There is ample parking, fully wheelchair accessible with automatic doors. The icing on the cake? Receiving a thank you card from the office for having been a patient. Two thumbs up and absolutely recommend this facility and their staff. Thank you, Dr. Smith!

I had been a patient of Dr. Smith at Charleston GI for years. He's a very nice and friendly doctor…read more Last, year, my insurance company refused to cover a prescription for Humira, which I had been taking with minimal to no side effects for years, I asked the nurse for help. She was extremely rude and unhelpful. I was then switched to a biosimilar, and months later I experienced significant side effects. I left several messages with the nurse to have Dr. Smith call me to no avail. I then obtained insurance with a new company hoping to get back on Humira. The insurance company representative told me that my doctor needed to submit a prior authorization form. I asked the nurse to do so and to copy me, particularly since she refused to speak with the insurance representative or allow me to speak directly with the doctor. Apparently, she never submitted it. I found a new doctor, and within one week I was approved for Humira again.

On July 30, 2025, I had an endoscopy at Charleston GI. At my initial consultation, a dilation was…read morenever discussed. On the day of the procedure, dilation was suddenly added without meaningful time to consider or consent. After the procedure, I was discharged with no pain medication. Later that day, when I called in severe pain, my wife was told to drive to the office to pick up a paper prescription. It was written incorrectly and rejected at my pharmacy, leaving me in unmanaged pain and public humiliation as the pharmacist suggested I was attempting to pass a fake prescription. That evening, I called Charleston GI's after-hours service and waited over an hour for a return call. When the physician finally called, he was dismissive, laughed at my situation, and told me I could "sue" if I was unhappy. No meaningful care was provided. In the following days, I made multiple attempts to resolve the situation. I contacted the office, delivered a letter in person, and later sent certified mail and faxed notices. Despite these efforts, I remained in pain, unable to sleep, eat, or work. Even after eventually receiving a corrected prescription, the damage was already done. Patients deserve informed consent, competent prescriptions, and supportive aftercare. I did not receive that here. Based on my experience and failed attempts to resolve it directly with Charleston GI, I would not recommend this practice for yourself or your loved ones.

I went to Coastal Carolina GI last month for some bowel and stomach issues. From the very start, this office was unprofessional and not helpful at all. I received no less then ten phone calls in one day from them trying to confirm my appointment for the following day... receiving several even after I called back and spoke with somebody to confirm my appointment. The woman on the phone was rude and pretty much hung up on me. At my appointment the following day, I saw Dr. Kaplan and from the very beginning of my appointment seemed to dismiss everything I was saying and I could tell she wasn't taking my problems seriously. After 3 appointments where I was NEVER even given an exam and was instead ordered all these expensive tests that proved to be unnecessary, I decided to switch doctors. It only took my new doctor one visit to figure out what was causing my problems. It only took him to listen to me and give me an exam to figure out what was wrong, all things Dr. Kaplan did not do. I would highly recommend saving your time and money and going to a different GI doctor. I am so incredibly disappointed in this office and wish I never went there in the first place.
