Feb 2, 2026 we had a broken lock and could not access our residence. We called Charleston Locksmith, who arrived two hours later and said the lock was broken and would need to be drilled, which would cost $70, and that a basic deadbolt replacement would cost $180. I agreed to that. An hour later, my wife, who was still home, was told to send a Venmo payment of $578 directly to the technician there, his personal Venmo for David Aloni, for $578. I called the office on Feb 5 to inquire about why it was $328 more than he said it would be and that we agreed do. The woman on the phone said she would be happy to refund the "$125 service call fee." I then explained that we were charged $578 when he specifically got approval for $250. She did not have an answer other than, "This must have been materials and labor." FRAUD - SCAMMED US OVER $2000. My partner called Charleston Locksmith after being locked out of our home. A contracted worker, Mike, came out and did not give any quote before he began working. He charged us for services we have since learned we did not need (drilling our deadbolt and doorknob) and for the services we did need, he charged exorbitantly - he even charged an additional $200 for parts that come free in the box with the new lock. I have spoken with several reputable locksmiths in Charleston who confirmed that they would not have drilled our door, and even if they had, their total price would only have been about $150-200. One confirmed that the supposedly "high security" locks were just regular, $25 locks. They informed me that Charleston Locksmith is known by all the legitimate locksmiths in town for being crooked scammers who try to intimate customers into services they do not need at over the top prices. Replace door hardware and provide new keys. This company charged me $500.00 that could have been for parts and labor closer to $200

Be careful with these people. I was verbally quoted a price to install a new deadbolt, but when presented with the bill, it was twice what the installer said. There were all sorts of extra charges tacked on. Ended up costing way more than it should--especially the deadbolt which I could have purchased myself for less than half what they charged. The way they handle business is shady at best. Get it in writing before they start. read more

Anyone who owns a business knows things are tight sometimes. And when you think about how much we give back to the community on a regular basis (we wrote off $90 in sales today for meals to the homeless- an almost daily occurrence), we do it mostly out of pocket unless we get a random donation here or there (that does go directly back into our onsite food pantry). Will NEVER use them again. Came to my place of business to repair a door handle on our front door. Long story short After paying over $2000 it still did not work correctly and this is after having them come back out there several times. The technician kept saying give it time. Well I gave it almost 3 months and it still did not work. I had technician come back out and he replaced the door handle with a different handle. He was wanting me to pay another service charge, an installation charge and for the new handle. That was not going to happen. I told him he needed to reimburse me for the last service he did as it did not fix anything, he wouldn't. The very next day this new handle stopped working too. Called another company to come fix what Charleston Locksmith could not fix and they said the entire lock was put in wrong and that is why it would not work. They put a whole new lock and handle and all the pieces that Chas. Locksmith left off the door and now it works perfectly and it only cost $300 compared to Chas. Locksmiths $2200 total. Chas. Beware! They will try and scam you. I needed a physical key replacement for my 2004 vehicle. They said someone could come to me. Person showed up. Van no markings of business. Person not wearing any business clothing. Made the key and then tried to charge me $350 for one key cut. Tried to tell me the programming is what costs so much. My car is self programmable. (Most newer cars aren't) I settled on 145 because I wanted the whole thing to be over but beware of this business and make sure you get all information before hand. Scammers! Totally price gouge! They use contractors and allow the contractors to scam customers. Had to replace the cylinder in the door knob for lost key. Door knob cost $20 on amazon that he used. He charged $499 for replacing-My husband paid it thinking he had to since the guy was here. Afterwards, I called back, got another technician and sent him a pic of the door knob to get another quote.
