Charley's is a local favorite of mine when I'm in the Long Branch or Asbury Park area. I love ending a beach day by dining here. I've been here 3-4 times and have never had a bad experience so I'm really surprised by the negative reviews. It's primarily a seafood restaurant so be wary if that's not your thing. They have a weekly specials menu so there's always something new to try. Overpriced for certain items but portion sizes are good. During my most recent visit we ordered: Peruvian Calamari $16 - This was the star of the show!!! The sauce was so good we asked for a side order of bread to dip into it. I don't think I can eat calamari with marinara sauce the same after this LOL Wings (8 pieces) $16 - We ordered the thai chili flavor. The skin was crispy and crunchy, the meat was tender, and the chili added the perfect kick of spice. Fish Fillet Francese with wild rice $26 - The first time I ordered this dish tasted better, but it was still good nonetheless. Fish was fresh. I wish I had more sauce and it didn't taste like it had much lemon in it. Shiitake Peppercorn Steak $34 - Steak was tender and paired well with the peppercorn + heavy cream sauce. This dish comes with a generous side of mashed potatoes and broccolini. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries ($8) and the portion is HUGE. We ended up taking a lot of food in to-go boxes because we were stuffed. I'm not a big fan of their cocktails because I prefer margaritas and mojitos with tropical fruit flavors like lychee, passion fruit, guava, etc.; they don't have those. One time I asked for a lychee martini and the server looked at me like I was crazy LOL. She said she would ask the bartender and then came back and told me that "no one knows what that is here". No complaints on overall service. The host and servers did an excellent job! They checked in on us, always refilled water, and were very prompt with everything. They gave off good energy which is refreshing to see in the food service industry nowadays. Check this place out if you're in the area. It is NOT a high-end seafood restaurant, but more of a casual bar/grill. Great spot for lunch or dinner while you're at the beach!

Hands down the best mushroom soup I've ever had

My first time here trying it out for jersey shore restaurant week. Started out with a mushroom soup appetizer, followed by crab stuffed flounder and key lime pie. The starters here are the best! Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts, mushroom soup and fried calamari.

The food was OK. The waitress was friendly and prompt. The ocean view would have been incredible but It is now obstructed by foliage. I will return when the upstairs is open and will be able to check out the ocean view.

Rode our bikes up from Belmar for Jersey Shore restaurant week. Beautiful place with yummy food and great service by Amy! My husband had the tuna pizza and really enjoyed it! I had a Pueblo bowl that was a perfect blend of flavors! So glad we tried it! Will definitely be back soon

    Moldy cheesecake

CHECK YOU FOOD BEFORE YOU EAT!!!! On 9/11/22 a day of Remembrance. My family and I went here for mid day lunch/birthday celebration. Reservation time was for 2pm. We ate are meal and it wasn't to die for. But when it came time for dessert. We got moldy cheesecake and was told it missed the rotation. What is that ‍ Missed the rotation. ⁉How did it miss the chef or server in the kitchen when they plated the garnish. Did they think we wouldn't notice it. We had order 2 slices for too different people in my party of 4. When I wrote to the management I got an apology with "I am sorry we missed the ROTATION", and offered me a gift card of $40 to return. I wasn't even offered anything when I was there. Just we missed the "ROTATION". Basically, I won't be back and this was my first and last time going there. Thank god we did not eat it. I have a medical condition called Multiple Sclerosis aka MS. Again who knows how that would have affected me or anyone in my party if we ate the cheesecake.

Convenient location next to the shore, good food, great seafood chowder. Unfortunately, no WiFi so I probably won't return.

We really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it was a complete letdown…read more The space itself is beautiful, and the service was good. Drinks were presented nicely, but flavor-wise they were just... fine. We started with the short rib flatbread, which was extremely dry. There were five of us and we left nearly half of it. The charred octopus was also disappointing--lacking flavor and a bit chewy. Mains were where things really fell apart. I ordered the spicy rigatoni, and it honestly tasted like jarred sauce--multiple people at the table tried it and agreed. It reminded me of the sauce inside a pizza roll: cheap and overly processed. I ate only a few bites before giving up. I woke up in the middle of the night with severe heartburn, nausea and stomach pains. Two friends shared a steak ordered medium; it came out well done. Sides were risotto and Brussels sprouts. The Brussels were good, but the risotto was very thick and gluey rather than creamy. The remaining two entrees were gnocchi and chicken Milanese. The gnocchi was bland and barely touched. One friend did say she enjoyed the chicken Milanese, which was the lone bright spot of the night. We don't mind spending money on food--but it needs to be good food. Unfortunately, nothing justified the price point. I wouldn't go back. It's a shame, because the restaurant has a lot of visual appeal and real potential, but the execution just isn't there.

If you're a seafood lover, I recommend starting off with the charred octopus or the shrimp fritters. The octopus was tender, smoky and perfectly charred. The shrimp fritters were golden and crispy filled with delicious, juicy shrimp. You also have to try the spicy tuna hand roll. Fresh, silky tuna with a kick of spice, perfectly wrapped in crisp seaweed--this hand roll is a must for sushi lovers. The dry aged cowboy ribeye steak was unbelievable. With every mouthwatering bite I found myself just wanting more. It was honestly one of the best steaks I've ever had. The golden, buttery scallops melted in my mouth with every bite, paired with ultra-creamy goat cheese polenta for the ultimate indulgence. An irresistible dance of flavors made for sharing. We topped off the night with this decadent, warm brownie crowned with silky ice cream--an intimate finish that's both rich and irresistibly smooth. I cannot confirm nor deny that we finished the whole skillet. Service was very attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is upscale and sleek. This is a great place for an intimate date night, classy girls night out, or sophisticated celebration.

They had a duo playing live music (one with a guitar and one with a cajon). They were very good. So, the noise level was high, but you could still strike a conversation. We ordered some calamari, some burgers and a Mac and cheese for my daughter. They were delicious. Can't complain. Great bar food. The Patty Burger, though, could've used a little more seasoning. It's a place worth hanging out if you want good food at relatively good prices, while having a good time listening to live music. Great alternative to Mcloone's or Ava. Do check them out.

Official "Benny" here - so take my review with a grain of salt…read more (Us Northerners are a shady bunch!) We came here the summer before, loved it. Came this summer and... liked it. (The honeymoon is over, I fear.) The menu is eclectic - pizza to sandwiches to seafood to an impressive list of beers, cocktails and mocktails. The pricing is a bit too high but what else would you expect in the heart of the boardwalk, right at the main 'corner' where countless people are constantly walking past? The servers on both visits were superb. The restaurant definitely has a cool look all around... outdoor seating, a large bar inside, plenty of tables and a cool 'snug corner' that has a lounge/library vibe to it. (Weirdly enough on both visits they gave us the exact same high-top even though there was plenty of seating in all the other corners of the joint.) For every hit (the BLT sandwich) there was a "it was okay, I don't think I'd get that again" (fish tacos) and for almost $20 to hear, "the crust reminded me of Ellio's frozen pizza" was deflating. (Next summer? We might see what else Long Branch has to offer...)
