Went to Charleys today .. Not many people in dining room..most were at bar. The servers were real nice and friendly.. I had hardy Beef barly soup and 8 oz. cheese burger..medium . it was perfectly cooked. My friend had Calamari which looked good and tasted great ( her opinion) . I had dinner there with my parents and my wife and we were very disappointed. From the minute we sat down, got drinks and the time we got our food everything was mediocre. The waitress couldn't get our drink order right. How hard is it to get 2 beers on tap right?? She brought 1 and forgot the other. Took 10 minutes to get the 2nd beer. Then the beer was warm by the time she brought it to the table. We ordered dinner and the order wasn't placed properly. Half of the order didn't come out. 2 of us got our food and 2 didn't. WTF?!?! Then the food wasn't even hot like it just came from the kitchen it was lukewarm. How can you eat lukewarm fish? The overall meal experience was horrible. Came here for lunch with family and sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and or service was good. They have a decent selection on tap so we were happy with our beers. For food - I ordered the hummus special and french onion soup...both were very good. The rest of our party had sandwiches which received mixed reviews (some tough/overcooked meat). I would return here though - it has good views, good service, and good selection of beers...that counts for something! read more

In town my boyfriend and i love to enjoy the fresh seafood that the shore has to offer.We had a couple of drinks in my opinion were a little weak for the price.... maybe it's just me! The lettuce wedge was served with french dressing and crumbled blue cheese, very tasty. i thought it could have used some pieces of bacon for an added touch. Went to a birthday party here recently. Service was great but the food was bland and not very good.

Stood at the hostess counter for 10 minutes while a female employee with blonde hair completely ignored us. She was setting up tables in the dining room and was apparently too busy to care about customers coming into the restaurant. A simple "I'll be right with you" would have been appropriate. The staff gave us proper attention and didn't over check up on us or be inattentive. The issue we had was the food. It was very bland and lacked flavor. Seems like the cook has some unique twists on things, not sure I was expecting it and not sure o enjoyed it. I got shepherds pie, which was basically a boat of French onion soup with meat in it covered in mashed potatoes. Not what I think of when I think shepherds pie. Wasn't bad, just not what i wanted. It was my daughter's graduation and she chose to go there to hang out with her friends at the boardwalk afterwards. Nice location and the place was crowded which was a good sign and we were seated in a reasonable amount of time. I order a shaved prime rib sandwich and my daughter ordered grilled fresh tuna. Her tuna was very thinl, overcooked and dry. my prime rib was nothing but deli quality thinly sliced roast beef. I was not happy with the orders and made sure to let the waitress know, she was so obnoxious and argued with me that this was a prime rib which I furiously disagreed with her and ask her to call the manager and she said she will let the owner know. she never came back. I always enjoy my visits to Charley's - any season. Expansive balanced menu, friendly staff, priced very reasonably. The food is good and consistent. The bar attracts an older crowd, but it's by the beach so no view is bad. When its warm you can dine on the double-tier outdoor deck. The menu, for the most part, remains constant, which is a good thing. Most "meat" dishes are great (steak, ribs, chili) as are the pizzas, salads, and appetizers. Average beer selection and the cocktails are strong if you request them that way. The only time I'm not impressed is with their Pasta & Italian fare (which you shouldn't go here for that anyway, Long Branch has a ton of places for those foods). read more

I went here on a Sunday afternoon to grab lunch with my girlfriend. I thought the place looked nice and that the food would be good as well. I was very wrong. I ordered Guiness Wings which tasted so bad both my gf and I had one each and did not eat another. They were so disgusting that they actually left a horrible after taste in my mouth. I ordered a chicken sandwich which was okay but I ordered Sweet Potato fries. Big mistake. The fries had some type of "crust" which was discolored and actually reminded me of ear wax crust. My girlfriend ordered a crab cake sandwich which a few hours later got her sick. To top things off the staff was not warm or friendly. Even the manager talked down to me when I tried to voice my concern over the food. As the final stake in the heart of Charley's, as I left their parking lot I had to avoid MULTIPLE broken beer bottles across the lot. Please please please do not eat here. Unfortunately, our experience at Charley's Ocean Grill was extremely poor. We had a party of 7 and not one of us enjoyed our meal. I got the Tuna steak and the mango/pineapple salsa, that was all over the dish, had gone sour and the tuna steak was way over cooked. Someone got the ribs and they were extremely dry. Another got the ribeye and it was not seasoned and looked like they put it under the broiler. I would highly recommend not going to this establishment. read more

Let me start by saying we had an excellent waitress. But that's about the only good I can say. We ordered the baby back ribs with Charley's bbq sauce. It was not a bbq sauce it was a marinara sauce. The buffalo chicken nachos should come with tortilla chips not potato chips! I had the crab cake sandwich. It was not a crab cake; it was more like a crab dip because it was just plain gooey and mushy. My niece had the patty melt which came on soggy rye bread. We had read reviews that weren't so favorable, so we were extremely pleased at how good the food, atmosphere and customer service was. I had the Tuna which is a regular on the menu and it was delicious...very large and fresh piece of Tuna with great pineapple salsa. I am giving Charley's for several reasons, first the food was excellent and very reasonable. I had a prime rib sandwich with excellent crispy fries for $12. Add to tha a decent beer selection, a wines by the glass menu, an excellent service experience and I met Doreen, the office manager who was very professional and accomodating to a very large group of people. This is a decent place to eat after a day at the beach. The interior is beautiful and outdoor seating is available too. The menu has a wide variety of items and there was a lot of specials as well. Both the service and food are above average and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Its good for kids and has all the basic kids meals covered.
