Wow! This place is stunning! Off vibes alone this place is a winner. The view from the tables on the street is just gorgeous. We stopped in after a beach day. Our car was in opposite direction so we took all of our stuff with us. The hosts out front were kind enough to let us leave our beach chairs near their stand and the managers were kind enough to let us in looking like beach bums. We had Taylor as our server. She was attentive and recommended more than half of what we ordered. All bangers btw. The crab cake is one of the best. It's just crab and cornflake crust. No added fillers. I dream of crab cakes like that. We tried to go back again last week but they were fully booked. Can't wait to get back. My only issue is the drinks were lackluster. Visited Rooney's for a group dinner event which hosted about 30 individuals. The staff was extremely aware of everyone's food restrictions, drinks, wants/needs. Our waiters/waitresses were extremely attentive and really took great care of the group. The food was spot on; my favorite was the calamari. All the sampled seafood tasted fresh. This is a fairly large restaurant right across the street from the ocean. It has a large outdoor bar with seating outside. We ate inside which was fairly loud but lively, Our waiter was very attentive and answered questions about the menu, there is no printed kids menu but there are a few limited options for kids if you ask. I was a little disappointed in that. The espresso martini was tasty. I got tired of steak which was cooked to my chosen temperature but a little on the small side. read more

Stopped in with family for Friday evening dinner. We had to wait approximately 20 minutes; however, the weight was well worth it! We were seated along the beach walkway, having an excellent view of the beach! The noise was also a little bit lower there. We opened with cocktails and a bottle of wine. My Manhattan was absolutely perfect! For starters, we went for their beef carpaccio and curried mussels. Both of those dishes were very good! For our main course, I ordered their swordfish, steak, my wife there chicken Parmesan, our other family members ordered the lobster, mac & cheese, and grilled shrimp. Our meals arrived timely, it was good we were with family catching up, so that time did not really matter as much. My swordfish steak was absolutely delicious! My wife's chicken Parmesan was absolutely huge and delicious as well! There were no leftovers of the other two dishes so I take that they were delicious as well. Had a delightful experience for a late lunch with some friends. Overall, the food was really solid, excellent service, and tastefully decorated for the holiday season. Enjoyed myself so much that I'll actually take the plunge and come back over the summer when it's busier. A few stand out items on the menu were the tuna Niçoise salad, honestly one of the best I've had, and the sushi rolls. The coconut shrimp were good, but they were very hard to eat off of the stick, and the oysters were good. They were served with droppers of some type of sauce , but I had no idea what it was. The wine menu was pretty decent, lots of choices for single glasses. And a variety of mixed drinks as well well. Everyone enjoyed what we had ordered. I would've liked to see a few other lighter bodied reds on the menu to pair better with some of the seafood. Our server was delightful and checked back in when we needed. The water service was pretty good, although I wish it was a little bit more in tune with the cadence of our table. The views really are exceptional. Reserved for Easter Buffet specifically but it was never mentioned that the buffet was only up to a certain time around 1:30 or 2pmish. We reserved for 3:45pm and so we only knew about this when we were seated as we wondered why there were menus handed out. As there were no other restaurants close by and it was getting late, instead of leaving to find another place we just decided to do the ala carte. Luckily our server Alma was very kind and Faris (i hope I spelled his name correctly), gave us complimentary desserts. The food was also quite good nonetheless. I've been wanting to come to Rooney's for quite a while already. Finally, on Saturday, September 27, I enjoyed a very delicious lunch of the Chef's Colossal seafood tower and their fish tacos and a perfectly crisp Yealand Sauvignon Blanc. The lobster and shrimp were very big portions. Worth the price, in my opinion. To top it off, the day was beautiful and the servers were quick and very friendly. The fried calamari was light and crispy, the mussels were plump and swimming in a garlicky broth that begged for bread, and every plate came out looking like it was ready for a magazine cover. The mains didn't disappoint either. The salmon was perfectly seared with a buttery crust and the sides tasted like someone in the kitchen actually cared. The poke bowl and grain salad were fresh and full of flavor, not just filler greens pretending to be healthy. The drinks were another win. The jalapeño margarita had the right balance of heat and kick, and the espresso martini looked almost too pretty to drink. Service was friendly and the pacing was spot on. If I'm being picky, the latte looked better than it tasted, but when the food, cocktails, and ocean view all hit at once, it's hard to stay critical. I had a delicious time at Rooney's for the end of summer! We started with the char-grilled oysters and the dancing Asian shrimp. Both were super delicious. The shrimp were crispy, and I loved the variety of sauces served with it. I tried the Caesar salad, which was pretty big and decent; not the best I've had but still yummy. I really loved the Lobster Mac-A-Rooney. This dish was so creamy and had pretty large chunks of lobster throughout. I also tried the skirt steak -- not the best I've had, but the bold flavor of the chimichurri sauce really elevated the meat. The Parmesan truffle potatoes they serve with this are so unique and yummy! They're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The lava cake was also a yummy way to close out the evening -- it wasn't too sweet and tasted delicious with the ice cream! We were a bit unlucky the day we visited, since it rained HEAVILY while we were seated outside. While there's cover, some rain still came through into the area. They did a good job helping us move the table and getting into a more comfortable area. The oceanfront view is beautiful, but more-so on days with better weather (haha). Tried again for a birthday dinner. Had the shrimp and scallop dinner in orzo. I asked for a drink menu but then the food came out and the waitress never came back so I just said forget it. I liked the shrimp better than the scallops, but the orzo was swimming in butter. It was so drenched I couldn't eat it. The waitress asked how it was and I told her about the orzo and nothing. I was still hungry when I finished eating the seafood because I didn't finish my meal since the orzo was gross. I love the views and ambiance but the food just isn't amazing. I'm surprised a Movie hasn't been made yet on the beach that includes this beautiful restaurant in the background or even rent out the restaurant on a slow day to include in a movie scene I went on a Wednesday evening & there was a constant flow of ppl. So, I'm not sure if they have slow days which is a good thing. Patrons seem happy w/ restaurant. I was taking photos to put on Yelp & ppl walking by my table said the food is wonderful. I had the burger & a salad . Mixed reviews on salad it could be better. It was too mushy for my taste . However, the burger was very moist & tasty . I wish my waitress brought salt & pepper to the table bc each time Haley came to ck on me I was busy eating & kept forgetting to ask her. There was a bit of a hiccup w/ my burger bc I'm diabetic, I said No fries, but it came with fries. I had the busboy return it & again he brought it back w/ chips on the side. So, by the time Haley fixed the problem my burger was warm this is why I 4got to ask for salt & pepper. Outside of a soggy tasteless salad everything was on point. My waitress, Haley was super busy, Omg! but friendly & attentive. FYI: To manager, I think salt & pepper should be automatically placed on tables @ dining. I'm super happy I finally made it & on ur 30th Anniversary is extra special. I'll always remember that. I live in Manhattan, a long way off, but this is the only beach I go to in the whole Tri-State area. The crab cake was creamy and perfectly seasoned with a cornflake crust and basil aioli on a sesame seed bun with a layer of crispy lettuce, red onion, and tomatoes. The crab cakes sides were homemade chips and a pickle. The cocktail of choice was Big D's. This drink reminded me of a tropical island drink. A portion of the proceeds goes to Single Parents with MS. Can't wait to return to Rooney's. Outdoor seating is cozy, right on the beach, plenty of seating. Everyone super friendly and accommodating. Also our waitress Taylor was so kind and had great recommendations. We came from the beach and didn't stop at our car, so the hostess held our beach chairs and umbrella behind their stand while we ate - super accommodating. Music was mellow hits and just a great vibe to eat to. Food was 10/10. Middle neck clams were fresh, inexpensive, served with fresh horseradish and cocktail sauce (I recommend asking for Tabasco). The crab cake was one of the best I've ever had - no fillers just straight crab and a nice corn flake breading, potatoes and asparagus on the side were sooo fresh and delicious. We had the perfect oceanfront seat and soaked in the beautiful view while sipping on a super refreshing sangria pitcher that was plenty for two. We kicked things off with oysters, charred oysters, and the star of the show the coconut curry mussels. Seriously, those mussels were out of this world. Then we shared the Sunshine sushi roll which was fresh and delicious, and a nice little lead-in to the main event. For dinner we had the shrimp and scallops over orzo in a garlicky white wine sauce and the spicy rigatoni. Both dishes were full of flavor and cooked perfectly. No notes. Dessert was crème brûlée which was smooth, creamy, and the perfect ending. We usually go for an espresso martini but it was just OK. The service was quick and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. The ambiance is unbeatable with that ocean breeze, and you can even bring your dog if you're dining outside! We took a ride to Rooney's for lunch on a beautiful Spring day: We sat outside watching the waves with the warm Spring air and an occasional cool breeze. Just beautiful! We come to Rooney's at least once a month in the warmer season. We ordered lobster bisque which was great. We also ordered the calamari which was some of the best we ever had. For lunch we had a burger (I know lol) and a tuna sandwich both with $2 up charge for fries. The fries were great and the burger was cooked perfectly. If we order avburger again, we would order it on the bread that came with the tunafish sandwich because the roll they serve it on is sweet and it reminded me of a McDonald's burger :(. Also; we thought the tuna was going to be fresh tuna, and it was canned tuna. Our bad. Next time we will ask. The coffee came last. It was delicious but $4.50 seemed like a little bit much. We have been coming to Rooney's for years. It's our favorite place to go when we visit the shore. The lobster meal is worth every penny (stuffed, not stuffed); they cook it to perfection. The service is consistent and attentive. The view of the water whether you sit outside or in the area off the bar with the open windows- is perfect. It makes you feel like you are on vacation even if you are just visiting for the day. It gets busy so you should definitely make a reservation (they are on OpenTable). During the winter months they have a brunch on the weekend which we hope to enjoy in the near future. Booked this reservation 2 months in advance for a family vacation- service was abysmal and the food was average which was a complete disappointment. Our waitress, Victoria, had to double check on bread service to start, didn't tell us any specials for the evening, and served our entrees without utensils. We had to ask another waiter for utensils in order to start eating, we overheard her share specials with a neighboring table later in the night (yes we asked for them in the beginning), and waited 15+ minutes for her to ask if we wanted dessert after dropping off the menu. At that point, all we wanted to do was leave and we ended up getting coffee and dessert elsewhere. Totally understand being busy, but our nearby tables had a much different experience than we did... As for the food: crab cakes were average and the seafood bolognese was good. If you're looking for somewhere for a nice evening, I recommend going somewhere else. read more
