This is the pork steak takeout meal.
    Bob S.

My company ordered takeout from Koke's this week -- fried chicken, pork steak, and pork kabobs-- and with folks out of the office I was fortunate enough to grab one of each. I'd had the fried chicken before, so, naturally that's what I grabbed. It's some of the best fried chicken you'll ever have! Seriously, I was shocked the first time but not after that. It's incredible...worth a long drive time enjoy it onsite...a real treat for take out. The pork steak wasn't as good -- what is? -- but it still rates an easy 8/10. Today I had the BBQ pork KABOBS...and OMG!!! It might be better than the chicken! Unbelievable! If you ever have a chance to eat at Koke's you MUST do it. What phenomenal food.

    All American Burger. Fire.

Ok guys let's have a quick talk about Kokes. I'm a first timer here. But I decided on the All American Burger. A burger with egg, cheese, and bacon. Easy. Aaaand wow. Nailed it. Just add some mustard and you've got yourself a sandwich you can't put down. Not to mention the wings and the tamale we had for an appetizer. The surrounding neighborhood does not reflect the atmosphere here. On the way I though, where the hell am I going? Leaving here I know where I'm going again.

Double dipped buffalo garlic wings, homemade ranch, crinkle fries. All so delicious.

Mi Tierra Bonita Mexican Grocery Store (3203 Collinsville Rd, Fairmont City, IL 62201)…read more My love wanted to take me to a place near and dear to him: the very first Mexican restaurant he and his late father dined at when they first moved to St. Louis. It is located in Fairmont City, not too deep into Illinois, situated by farmland and near the raceway. The place is like a mullet: business in the front (store) and a party in the back (restaurant). The aisles of the store have everything one would need, from food staples to household items. We were warmly greeted by our waitress, who proved to be super attentive during our visit--even after we paid. We ordered a top-shelf pitcher of strawberry margaritas. It was a huge pitcher for $32, came with a side pitcher of ice, and we were able to make a total of 12 glasses out of it. They started us off with chips and salsa. The chips were made of super-duper corn and came with two spicy table salsas. For our appetizer, we had guacamole. It was freshly made but lacked salt and lime for what we are used to, so I took my lime from my margarita and squeezed it over the guacamole to make it better. I ordered à la carte: one quesabirria, a grilled chicken taquito, and a chicken gordita. The taquito and quesabirria were on point. The gordita was not the mainstream version of what I had been used to seeing, but still good. I would definitely return!

This spot doesn't mess around, it's seafood or nothing, and my ocean loving heart was thrilled. I ordered the seafood tower, which had every species in the sea, clams, octopus, scallops, shrimp, you name it. It even came with a side of entertainment when the whole thing collapsed in. Sad but inevitable. If you love seafood, this is a must. Wonderful smiling service and a great vibe! #stlouispescatarianapproved

I was at the Cahokia mounds and I used Yelp to find a nearby place to eat because I wanted to try something local and off the beaten path. This place is only a mile and a half from the mounds a straight shot down the road, and it looks like an old seafood shack you'd see in a tourist village on the coast. I'm from Florida and I felt right at home like the whole tin roof thing. You go in and you immediately see all the family members hanging out complete with a kid coloring and there's a cash register in the front and then you go to the back and there's a cute little bar and you get a laminated menu that's mostly in Spanish but they have everything broken down in English for us gringos. They have seafood cocktails which is basically cold seafood cooked in lime juice kind of like ceviche and then they have fried platters as well. They also have paella. It was almost impossible to decide. I ended up getting the stuffed pineapple, stuffed with octopus imitation crab meat shrimp and prawns and topped with avocado and of course mixed with a wonderful lime and cilantro and tomato base. The presentation was gorgeous. Included as the photo and the condiments served at the beginning of the meal were also excellent. She gave me a small cup of Caldo... I don't know the proper name for this type of soup but it's a tomato based soup with prawns in it and it was so good I ate it right up and she offered me another cup and ice said yes and this one had what looked like a little piece of yucca in it and I was just absolutely delighted to have something so authentic and perfect here in Collinsville Illinois of all places. And the prices! The stuffed piña was 32 or $36 and piled high with seafood. In a major American city or where I'm from in Florida a plate like this would set you back over $100 easy. The service was impeccable, the waitress was incredibly sweet and attentive. The bill with two coronas came to $53. And they also have these big family packs of seafood also that can feed up to 8 to 12 people. It would be a great place to have a party or event. I definitely want to go back because there are lots of things on the menu I want to try. Great place to take a date as well. You could split one of those $30 plates and still get full. More money for booze! I wonder if they have clamatos there . . . Seems like the kind of place that would make you want if you asked. This place is a gem. Highly recommend if you are a seafood lover.
