CASH ONLY. This is a order to go spot. Quality ingredients, very basic sandwiches (this is a good thing, trust me) made fresh to go. I went with the #4 (Menny Special) and #7 (Che Si Dici). Both are very different, both are great. If you want something savory and warm- go with the #4. If you want something that's more 'Italian' and cold cut oriented with a hint of sweetness, go with the #7. Charlie's doesn't really overcomplicate their recipes. The menu is a bit long (given the different combinations), but that's because their experiments are tried and true. The bread is excellent, not sure if made in-house but they're light, toasted, holds the sandwich 'innards' well (though some tectonic sliding iykwim) but still makes for a perfect big bite. Now these are not MASSIVE heroes like Lioni's (this is a good thing), but do consider these sandwiches more of an indulgence/treat. Well worth the trip/price. read more

I walk into a small shop, the large menu is front and center. I read on line what I wanted, the #6 - The How You Doin You're not finding this sandwich name in LA! This spot is pure Brooklyn, with some great sounding sandwiches. Trust me, I looked over the menu and wanted to try everything on the menu. The #6 was a fantastic choice, Fresh Brooklyn Italian bread with a perfectly Fried Chicken Cutlet and topped with Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella and completed with an Oil Balsamic drizzle. Every time I am in this area of Brooklyn, I stop by this sandwich shop for a Menny Special. It is not super complicated, but it's so darn tasty. What makes it finger licking good is the freshly baked sesame seed crusted hero bread filled with tender medium rare roast beef, melted Swiss & Provolone cheese, and balsamic mayo. I know Charlie's have other great sandwiches, but I have not gotten past this one yet. After several attempts, I am still stuck on this one damn sandwich. It's alright. I'll move on someday. Maybe. I've been here a couple of times now and they haven't let me down. It's a small shop; not really a place to sit down and eat. In the display are delicious home cooked meals and sides. The sandwiches are carefully made and I knew this so I ordered ahead of time and waited 15 minutes before heading over. My L'americano had the perfect amount of balsamic. Simple flavors but so so good. The roast beef went on forever. The sanitation special was the hubs and he thoroughly enjoyed. I saw many great reviews for Charlie's, with tons of amazing photos and I wanted to get in on the experience. From the reviews it seems like they are killing it in this neighborhood. The ambiance: it's a very small sandwich shop, looked very clean, the woman at the counter was very friendly and very nice and greeted me as I walked through the door. When I came home with the sandwiches they smelled wonderful. however when I opened them up they were really skimp with the meat. It didn't reflect the photos that I've seen on Yelp/Google. My Giuseppe tasted amazing, but didn't seem like it was worth $15 - not enough meat and was still hungry after eating. Apologies, but I've seen more sausage on a slice of pizza than what was on the whole Wednesday sausage sandwich for 15$. My BF was disappointed with his meal and was also still hungry. That's Charlie's; They're THAT good. Today, I ordered the "Papa Sal Sandwich", which was a new one, for me. A warm sammich served on a hero, with Chicken Parm topped with slices of breaded, fried eggplant. So... Think... If Chicken Parm & Eggplant Parm had a baby... That's what The "Papa Sal Sandwich" tastes like. They've salted the eggplant prior to breading and frying, because there is absolutely NO bitterness at all. The Chicken Breast was tender. Plenty of sauce, plenty of Mozz'; Let me put it this way... While I ate this sammich, I did a little dance in my seat out of pure flavorfully-induced ecstasy. I am a resident of Staten Island, and as such, I like to attend many fund raisers in SI, especially for veterans. I went to a U.S.I.V.O. fundraiser on 10/26/2024, and I participated in some raffles. At the end of the evening, I was lucky enough to win a 25.00 Gift Card for Charlies Sandwich shop, the address said "130 Lincoln avenue" in SI. but when my husband went to get a sandwich on 10/29/24, they were closed. I called the number on the menu, (for Brooklyn), and they told me that they had sold this location 3 months prior. They also notified me that this gift card would be no good in the Brooklyn location. I was finished with a day of work with my supervisor in our Bay Ridge neighborhood and when she offered to buy lunch I was not going to argue. She wanted to try Charlie's Sandwich Shop and despite my living close by I have not been in there yet so I was game for this. While I don't remember the name of our sandwiches, we got the same thing which was chicken cutlet, mozzarella cheese and bacon. She asked for that kind of cheese instead of the one on the menu and I just said "same" to make sure there was no margin for error and having the wrong item in my bag and in hers. As we asked for the sandwiches toasted there was a little bit of a wait and when we arrived there were already people waiting on orders so it was a busy day for the small shop. I like seeing this in the post pandemic times since so many businesses suffered. Now spatially speaking this place is very small, so you'll walk in and order and probably prefer to stand outside and wait for it as otherwise other customers will be on top of you. This is something I no longer enjoy myself, so elbow room or a couple of feet space keeps me happy. Once I was home I anxiously opened the sandwich and it was super tasty. I added some hot sauce on the top of it since I do that with almost everything these days. As I finished the whole thing I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day and for sure some lengthy walking was going to be on the schedule. Pricewise the sandwiches run from about $13-$15 which isn't all that bad in today's skyrocketing inflation economy. read more

Parking can be a challenge, but we lucked out with a spot a couple doors down. When we got home to eat, I thought the box was cool, but sandwiches usually are not as exciting for me. I opened my sandwich and then picked it up to check it out - still wasn't impressed, but whatever a girl's gotta eat right? Oh my goodness! After my first bite, I immediately had a change in mood. The sandwich was sooooo good! The ingredients are so simple: roast beef, melted Swiss, provolone and their balsamic mayo. It must have been the balsamic mayo and whatever Charlie's love is because it might've been the best roast beef sandwich/hero I've ever had! I was raving the whole time I was eating it and it only got better. Charlie's is an Italian themed sandwich shop that caters to the hand full of characters who still live in Bay Ridge. I scanned the board and ordered a "Looch." Looch is a hero of pulled pork and Cole Slaw. I bicycled to the Verrazano Bridge and ate my sandwich. The sandwich was very tasty, the bread was fresh, and the portion was generous. Such a bummer have had sandwiches here many times and loved them but 2 out of the last 3 times we have ordered the meat has been virtually inedible. Always order the homemade roast beef and today more than half of our two sandwiches was gristle and fat . I got the Menny (roast beef) and Looch (pulled pork). Both were really tasty! I asked for non toasted and extra balsamic mayo on my menny and they honored both those requests. The Menny is tangy from the balsamic mayo which cuts through the fatty richness of the beef and cheese. It was so tasty when toasted! The bread was fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The roast beef was not dry at all but juicy. The Looch tasted like bbq sauce on pulled pork. It was tasty too with the cole slaw. The pork was not tough but rather really tender. It wasn't dry either. The prices can be a little much for a sandwich but the portions are huge and I could make two meals out of mine. The quality of fillings is good too.
