Great spot and opens at 6AM! We had scoped this out as a must-visit in the morning after packing up for the long drive back to Toronto on the last day of our trip. That was such a perfect idea. First thing we were there, and it was a warm and sultry morning at 6:30AM with the sun up to greet us along with a New York bridge adorning the scene to the south, with us eating outside on the sidewalk I could not imagine a better send off from this great world city. Bagels were a perfect breakfast and we sucked those back in a jiffy. Just as we were finishing, members of the US military, maybe national guardsmen, showed up in black SUVs right in front of us and parked. They got out, a gaggle of them and headed in for their bagels. Well that's something to remember and not an every day sight for us being from Canada, and added to the local flavour of this epic road trip. read more

Working in a new neighborhood is always a challenge. It's like you're the new kid in school, you need to find out the lay of the land. Well, I went to my first bagel spot in Ft Hamilton. I pulled up and I see "Mr" Bagels cafe. For Brooklyn, it sounds like pure class. I'm sure the owner must have a pinky ring. Walking inside, the bagel counter are front and center. To the left, is a coffee bar with multiple coffee choices. Nice looking spot. I ask for a Sesame Bagel with Cream Cheese. Would you like that toasted sir? Wait a second Years ago, I asked for my bagel toasted at Murrays Bagels in Chelsea. The guy behind the counter? He lost his mind! The next day, they put up a hand written sign: No Toasted Bagels So I'm always lerry when asking for extras. Except the bagel guy asked me so I feel relaxed. I pour myself a cup of delicious French Roast Coffee and my bagel is ready. The bagel is perfect. It has a nice chew, just a little too big but thats my personal taste. Mr. Bagel's was fantastic! I'm visiting from Florida, and I heard that there's nothing quite like a New York bagel. They were absolutely right! I ordered an everything bagel with plenty of cream cheese. It was a little salty, but the bagel was incredibly soft. There's truly nothing like a New York bagel! The menu also featured other items, such as sandwiches and even large chicken cutlets to take home. The service was fast and great and I love the hometown charming interaction between the customers and employees. They have a plethora of bagels to choose from and a good amount of space to seat 2 parties 1 party of 2 and 1 party of 4. I ordered a poppy seed bagel blt with avocado and it was so fresh and good. They need better organized service they always get something in my order wrong. I only go here cause it close to me but at this point I'd rather go to one of the other bagel stores nearby Update: 7/27/23 Still do think service could be organized better but everyone is always very friendly. Compared to the customer service that used to be here (under a different name of course), this place is like exponentially better! It's just one of those things. Now I say it's a joy to come in here. Particularly for the girl at the register. She just seems efficient, kind and willing to help. Now, the food is still banging and the bagels are really some of the best you can get anywhere in NYC. Biayali's too.... and a nice selection of cream cheese, or sandwich materials (like chicken salad, etc.) if you'd like to make your own sandwich at home. This morning I went in and had an egg bagel and cream cheese. It was just an ordinary bagel, not fresh, but the cream cheese was not spared! The coffee was self-served, again just ordinary. Oh, I selected Columbian coffee, it did taste like the Columbian I normally have again just plain coffee. No service! All staff is behind the counter taking orders and collecting payment. The ambiance outside was cool. Loved it! Would not recommend even trying to sit at 1 of the 4 single chairs inside, since someone's butt may be in your face-sorry. I usually stop in when I'm on the go for a quick breakfast or with my boyfriend on the weekends. They have gotten our order wrong at least 3 times now. The iced coffee is really good though. I love to make it myself and they have many different options. The bagels are okay but there's much better in the area. It's insane that there's always something wrong with the order whether it's missing something you asked for or they put the totally wrong thing in your bagel. Very disappointing. Some of the nicest people work here. Yes. Sometimes they can get orders wrong. I've had that experience, so unfortunately, I micromanage them now. Saves them a hassle from re-doing (They're also very pleasant about that. No attitude when you tell them they've made a mistake and they just re-do the order.). Ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches. The first one being egg and very well done bacon (nearly burnt) on a plain bagel. What I got was eggs with 2 extremely undercooked, fatty pieces of bacon. My other sandwich in the order came with a different cheese on it than asked. I went in to this bagel shop a few days ago. I had been in it a few times before but my husband always complained that they didn't seem to know how to toast a bagel. So I asked them to please toast the bagel well. Not just put it into the toaster for 30 seconds. There was only one person ahead of me and that person left as I was waiting for my order.
