It's surprisingly excellent. Service was very good. My wife and I would recommend Charlie's to I5 travelers as well as local diners.

Definitely get here early to grab a table or booth because for a Wednesday night this place was packed! Charlie's has trivia at 8pm on Wednesday nights. They go through Geeks Who Drink, which is used by many. The bar was a little loud, but the trivia host was able to quiet all 22 teams down during questions. 8 rounds, including visual and music. It was a ton of fun! Definitely read the rules on the handy trivia packets, you also have to turn your answer sheet to the bar after each round. I ordered some potato skins to share paired with a Mac & Jacks African Amber. Our waiter Fernando was quick and despite the chaos of trivia, checked on us and was extremely attentive. We even moved from a booth to a table for better seating for our party and he assisted no questions asked! The atmosphere was fun, and I will try to make Wednesday night trivia every week! read more

It's a sports bar! I want to give it another star cause my visit there was amazing but it's more of a dive bar than a sports bar. I love the theme but I don't think the dive theme was intentional. Otherwise! Amazing service and food. We ate throughout the game we were there to watch and there were more than enough televisions. A bit quiet on volume but sufficient. The staff there was very attentive, water always full, drinks always coming, and the food always prompt and delicious. Not sure what else I could ask for! The prices are fair for a downtown location and parking is available in both the street and the back parking lot. The homemade tater tots are truly delicious, and the service is exceptional. Most of the food we have had there is really good. The steak bites were disappointing, but only because of the price and portion. The flavors were really good. The reason I couldn't award it 5 stars has to do with their game day pricing. The have a football menu with the food priced at $5.99, except for the Big Game when it was $7.99, and selected domestic pints were $3 and selected micro pints were $4. When the game started they switched to plastic cups. When I finished my first beer, I looked on the bottom of the Solo cup and it was clearly marked 12 oz. I mentioned it to the server and asked her to pass it along to management because I feel they shouldn't be advertising their special as "pints" as a pint is 16 ounces. We had a great time, and they had fun promotional giveaways. I hadn't planned on posting this, because we had a great time and won some door prizes, but the manager came over to me to talk to me about my complaint as we were leaving. He seemed offended and thought I was accusing him of trying to rip people off, and then he tried to tell me the cup held 12 to 14 oz. That is completely untrue. I brought one home and measured it, and it was 12 ounces. I guess is some way I am grateful it was full to the top, because if they had poured my beer properly with a head, I probably would have only received 10 ounces, but I would have had more room in my belly for their delicious food instead of it being full of carbonation. We will go back because of the attentive, friendly service and the delicious food, but won't be going there for $4 schooners (NW schooners that come in the small glass....increasingly harder to find) on game days. Additionally they have a ton of televisions, over 20, and the games outside are fun and you can smoke and still watch TV out there also.. read more

The food and prices were great. I would love to talk with the owner because i honestly feel bad that he has such horrible people working for him. 1. We had to ask for water/refills 2. When we did she rolled her eyes at us and just took the cup, didn't say anything 3. We had a 1 year old with us and she didn't even acknowledge her or offer us a high chair, i had to go grab one myself 4 we asked for the guacamole on the side so they just didn't bring it at all and when we said we still wanted it they argued for a little while instead of just bringing it 5 every time we said thank you she would just give a smirk 6 after all this we obviously weren't going to give her a tip because she didn't do ANYTHING without us telling her to so she followed us to the parking lot and told us next time we come back she's adding it to our bill automatically. So i went back in , Got stopped by four employees brawling, screaming at each other, one nice employee was trying to stop them, saying "please guys just stop, this isn't the place", putting his body in the middle of all the punches, while hey continue to act like children, one of them had to be in his 50s! Finally got to the girl and told her we didn't tip because everytime we asked her for something she gave us attitude even though we were all nothing but nice. And all she said was, i was very attentive. (With attitude) 1 that's your job as a waitress , that's what you get paid hourly to do. 2 i tried to explain why we felt the way we did and we just kept talking over me telling me i still have to tip. Well actually i don't, and won't and wish i didn't even pay my tab at this point. I told her not to worry about adding it next time because none of us plan on coming back and she said "cool, good" I heard the owner also owns hooligans so we will just be going there. Great little place down town amongst the pretty brick buildings. We found this place by accident rolling through town. At a stop light we heard a heavy metal scream followed by some guitar. We flipped around excitedly and tracked the music down to this place. A Def Leopard cover band Hysteria was playing. They kicked ass. Fun times here for sure. Great spot. read more

The remodel is awesome! The food and service leave a lot to be desired. We've eaten here twice and both times have been "okay". The spicy chicken wrap I ordered came out tossed in ranch instead of anything remotely spicy. It wasn't bad once a side of buffalo sauce came out. They've got a great selection of beers... too bad the waitress has no idea what they are. I get that 20 is a lot to remember, but maybe it's time to get a list up. We wanted to try the fried ravioli, but it's only available as an appetizer that comes with fried zucchini and something else, not as a stand-alone. We went for trivia and sat with empty beers for a long, long time. It was moderately busy, but I think the waitress just forgot. I ate my last lunch at Charlie's today. It used to be a once-a-week lunch spot for me. I work close by, you can watch sports while you eat, Mo was the best server in Olympia and the burgers were pretty good. But - Mo left a few months ago. I've been back a few times and it just isn't the same. None of the new wait staff have been remarkable and the quality of the food has declined. Today I ordered a salad and could tell right away that something didn't taste right. The cheese had a moldy flavor. I let the wait person know. Her solution was to let me know that all of their salads can be ordered half size or as wraps. What? No attempt to make it right. No apology. Sorry, Charlie - I won't be back. read more

I drive to Olympia from Seattle at least once a month to get the Halibut and fries here. It is better than Ivar's by far and I love the food. The tartar sauce is amazing and the fries are the best ever! The service is always really good and they are friendly and courteous. My only complaint is it is in Olympia and not Seattle. Went hear with my girlfriend and her son to eat some dinner at 8:45 at night after a super long day of driving. The waitress was really friendly and made an exception to the "no minors after 9 pm" rule. The nachos went from $10 to $4 so that was a must and they were definitely worth every penny. I had the 3 piece halibut and soup as my side. The soup was really good and made with real mushrooms. Okay, so we go out a lot in Olympia and I have to say, service is not a strong point, but I've learned to adjust out of necessity. But our visit here was by far one of the worst. My dad wanted to watch the baseball game, so we went to Charlie's. Let me just say, if you put someone behind a bar, at least make sure they know what is actually in all those bottles. My mom ordered a "brandy on the rocks." The girl behind the bar said, "What's that? Is that like a drink or something?" Really. That's what she said. We all looked at each other, and then around the room to see if there were hidden cameras or something, but no. She was serious. We explained that Brandy was a liquor, like gin or vodka. She then started picking up various bottles and reading the labels. She looked like she was in high school, that aside, she had no business being a bartender. After much searching, she picked up a bottle of brown liquid and said, "Is this it?" Yes! We have a winner! Wow. I was actually a tiny bit embarrassed for her, but then realized she had no clue how incompetent she was. I guess ignorance really is bliss. read more

This place really should get two reviews; one on the food and service which would be a 5 star and one on the setup/management of the place which would be a 1/2 star. So I'm going to comprise and give it a 2 star... not really fair to the servers and the cooks who make this place the happening place that it is! First let's talk about the service and food... Five stars! The servers at this place are so incredible. I don't know how they do it, but they take care of you with efficiency, politeness, and quality service. I've been in here many times and I have only ever seen 2 people running the whole place and that has included the bartender at times. You are taken care of you, but you can see that the servers are over run/running all over the place. You can see why...there are literally two people running this whole place and it really is not enough for as big as a place is. Their food is so good. A favorite of mine is the fish tacos. The ingredients are fresh, ample enough and they use halibut or cod, which I like instead of cheap tilapia like a lot of restaurants use. Every menu item I've had is good. Hats off to the cook! Let's talk about the way the place is run. I believe that the cooks and the servers are truly doing their jobs, however I believe they also have a lot on their plates...no pun intended. The servers are so busy running around, they can't even stop and have brief conversations with their customers. How they build relationships with all of their regulars is beyond me, but somehow they do. The person who manages this place may be part of the problem. It seems to me that he/she is so busy watching pennies that they won't hire that extra person needed during busy prime times, especially with happy hour being daily from 3 to 6. A third person would make this place run so much more smoothly. My hats off to the servers and cooks. To the manager/owners??? WAKE UP! You're going to ruin a good thing! read more

We've hung out at Charlie's many times. The atmosphere is great, the service is outstanding, and there's parking nearby. However, the food is horrible! Everything is very salty.
