The vibe in this place is just right. Low lights, enough noise to fill the space while still making it easy to hear your conversation, plenty of comfy seating, prompt but unobtrusive service, and fun 50s decor made Brotherhood a very enjoyable spot. We visited in December so the red and green lanterns hanging from the ceiling fit right in with the Christmas garlands strung around the bar. We loved the vibrancy and pointed out the cool retro lamps and fancy velvet paintings of matadors. We got boozy hot chocolates to close out a bar-hopping evening. They were tasty, if slightly less hot than we would've liked. I don't know, the last few times I've come in here I feel like they water down my drink, and yes I mean DRINK. I'm only ever getting one and just last night I had a long day at work and the bartender kept eyeing me, I was tired and trying to figure out what to drink. In Olympia on business and staying downtown at the Doubletree Hotel. The young lady at the front desk recommended The Brotherhood Lounge when I asked her if there are any good dive bars in the area. It definitely would qualify as a dive bar, but in a good and quirky way. There is bar seating for about a dozen (Covid distancing) and another thirty or so booths and tables. There is a full bar and about ten beers on draft. The interior was unique and funky, with a basketball on one tv and The Creature From The Black Lagoon playing on another. The bartender was very friendly and inviting and had several recommendations when I requested a local IPA. It was served promptly. The glass was clean, and the beer was just the right amount of cold. It was $6.50 for a pint, which is very fair for a local brew in Olympia. If you a looking for a good dive bar in downtown Olympia, you could do no better than The Brotherhood Lounge. been to this bar many times over the years and never had any issues until some bar back wanted to use her personal vendetta with me and one of my other friends to get us kicked out of the bar. it was very unsettling, she harassed us as soon as we came in the door but let us stay and get drinks only to kick us out later with no reasoning behind her actions, not to mention she said to me "goodbye ____" (used my name and i don't know her personally!) very unprofessional and its impossible to get a ahold of an owner or anyone in charge. they don't listen and don't care for your patronage. i'm still a bit shook that we were treated like that. read more

We stopped in here on a Monday during our one night stop in Olympia. We entered without knowing anything about the place and it was the best surprise of our road trip. We had a blast in here. As others have stated it's a funky cool dive bar and was definitely our type of place. Both bartenders were friendly and helpful. The jukebox is jammed full of great music. Any place that keeps T. Rex, Hank Williams and Devo in jukebox rotation is tops in my book. The price of drinks were reasonable, we just missed happy hour, $2.50 drafts, which is probably a good thing otherwise we may not have made it back to our hotel. I don't if and when I'll ever be back in Olympia but you can bet that this place is first on my list of stops if I do return. read more

One of my favorite bars in Olympia, has been a regular for a couple months now. As you may see in the time of the review posted, 6:55pm, Happy Hour should still be in session as it ends at 7pm. The Brotherhood is my favorite bar in Olympia, hands down! On my first visit to Olympia 16 years ago, a good friend introduced me to the Brotherhood. Now that I've lived here for 11 years myself, it remains my top choice for a drink with great company. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff and regulars are friendly, the crowd is diverse, the drinks are strong, and the prices are great, especially at happy hour. They've got a pool table, shuffleboard, pinball, an eclectic jukebox, movies on many Sunday evenings, and frequent special events, many of which raise money for worthwhile charitable causes. The space is huge with lots of places to relax and enjoy a beverage, including a lengthy bar, several comfortable booths, and some regular tables. For those who prefer to sit outside, there's also a nice patio area in the back. What more can I say? I will be returning to the Brotherhood regularly for many years to come. read more

The Broho is one of the better bars in town. I personally don't think this place is dirty as other reviews have stated but it is "divey". The ambiance reminds me of the Twilight Exit in Seattle and they even have a shuffle board, which was hard to get a turn at playing. Drinks are super cheap! I had to do a double take when the bartender said $3 for my gin and tonic. Don't worry, they don't skimp on the alcohol. It is a CASH ONLY bar but I don't mind paying cash since drinks are very cheap. I enjoyed hanging out at the Broho and I wouldn't mind going back here when I visit Olympia again. read more

Went here on a Wednesday at the suggestion of another bartender. This bar must be one of the busiest I have seen on a weekday, and that is a pretty good thing! It is pretty spacious and has a lot of booths, a very high ceiling, the kind of fabric print flag type hangings you see in old school record stores and plenty of games. There is also a dance floor and customers using it, again, on what would be a slow night for most bars. I'd say if you are single and wanting to hook up or go to a lively place on a date mid week, this is your place. I will have to see what it is like on the weekends. Bartender was very friendly and attentive and the beers I got were reasonably priced. I will definitely make this place a regular stop on my trips up north. read more

I total acknowledge that this is a long time dive bar. I've been here many times and had a perfectly fine experience with the expectation of a dive bar. However on my most recent visit the person I was with ordered and paid for something awful that I was supposed to drink. I took one sip and it was plain awful. I immediately walked it back and really nicely said I'd like to exchange it for something else. The older guy behind the bar didn't believe in an exchange so I paid for another drink. I was more than happy to hand back the disgusting yellow beverage missing one sip. Many other local establishments wouldn't think twice about quickly subbing out something so that I could enjoy my drink and experience. A quick change for a draft beer would have been sufficient in making my experience great. read more

My family and I were visiting the area and were very excited to go to this bar. As soon as we walked in, everyone was staring at us and not welcoming at all. We weren't even greeted by the bartender. It was definitely a different vibe, but it was the attitude from the people and (only) bartender that made us leave after our one and only drink. We got in line and were nice to the bartender, but after we showed our IDs and ordered 4 drinks (4 of us), he rolled his eyes and asked, "You guys have cash for this, right!?" I understand that it's a cash only bar but it was offensive. My brother was getting the drinks at the bar after we paid and the guy behind us rudely said that there's a line. He responded that he was just grabbing the drinks and he rolled his eyes then looked the other way. We chugged our drinks, which tasted watered down, and split. The Brotherhood Lounge is a super fun dive bar located in downtown Olympia! The atmosphere and decor is fun and quirky and brings in a crowd that is equally so. They have a good amount of craft beers on tap as well as a full bar for those of you who want mixed drinks. This bar does not accept credit or debit cards so that is something to keep in mind. I didn't see the sign until after I placed my order. The good news is that they have an ATM in the building so you can run over there and withdraw some cash. They have two pinball machines in the back. I played one called Funhouse. I wasn't very impressed with that pinball since the architecture inside the game almost always had the ball go directly in the middle of the flippers. In short it was a very brief game and it wasn't just because I'm not an expert with pinball either. It's not really necessarily the fault of those that run the place but your spare coins may generate more enjoyment on pinball machines somewhere else. read more

Touch of weirdness with stiff drinks and games? Sure!! That expression when in Rome totally applies here. When in Oly, apparently this place is a must visit. This is where all the locals hangout. This is where everything is happening. At least thats what I was told. My gf who brought me here couldn't STOP talking about it all day. First off, it's a dive bar. But it's a very popular and happening dive bar. They serve popcorn and stiff drinks. And every drink is pretty much $5!! Ummm ok. You Olympians must have a very strong tolerance and liver cause those $5 drinks are stiff as well. Upon entering, you'll notice oogle of funky movie posters, vintage pictures and all sorts of weird things hanging. Charming right? Wait till after you drink. They are quite entertaining. Oh and that shuffle board table? That was fun. People will cheer you on as they watch you play casually too. Oh and that one stall bathroom for ladies? Make a good spot to meet new friends. Everyone in line will chat you up, ask where you are from and will tell you to come with them. I had at least 7-9 girls offered to take us to the next bar with them so they can show us around!! Talk about friendly people :) Everyone seem so damn nice here. I love it. My hot buttered rum was pretty fantastic too!! We didn't stay too long but we had a few drinks, played board games and left to sing karaoke with some new friends we met at this very bar. There was a guy in a wheel chair, several fun girls and even a bartender! It was definitely an entertaining night for sure. I'll drop by if I make it back up to Olympia again. Let me supplement the five star Yelp rating description with 'Woohoo! As good as it gets! In Olympia.....' Meaning that, when you put the words "bar" and "Olympia" in the same sentence, you're not talking about the hottest scenes around, really. The Brotherhood looks very humble out front. From the old neon signs out front that practically cover all the entrance windows, you might be more tempted to just walk by. But. Please. Don't. Especially when you consider your alternatives - every other alcohol serving establishment in a 5 block radius is just a meat market, populated with all of Olympia's finest drunks who are more interested in seeing who has a bigger weiner than trying to spend that same effort wooing a one night stand mate. Inside Broho is vintage central - on the walls, you'll find everything from JFK photos to old posters of Bruce Lee movies. The Bruce Lee posters should be a good selling point in themselves, but low and behold, there's more. The drinks are cheap. $4 for a sizable portion of Jameson neat, and every subsequent one you order gets progressively larger. The bartenders are no-nonsense, and that makes good sense for this kind of establishment. Not a lot of lip service as they try and squeeze a bigger tip out of you. They pour the drink, you pay, and they move on. Excellent. There is a pool table, shuffleboard table, and a photo booth if you are so boring that you can't keep your companions' attention long enough with plain ol' conversation. And if you do choose the conversation route, you can actually have one here. No yelling over the speakers blasting the newest Bieber song (but their Jukebox has awesome oldies like heroes from the psychadelic era), or people slammin into you as they dance, since there is no dance floor. One caveat - BRING CASH. One of the few remaining joints around that is a cash only establishment. There is an ATM if you forget. So come to The Broho for a good atmosphere, low dbag factor, and cheap + stiff drinks. read more

Like many have said before me, don't be deceived by the outside of the bar. I must've passed by this place a dozen times thinking it was just a hole in the wall until I finally took the plunge last night. I walked in with my girl around 1030 on a Sat. night and if it's possible, there was the perfect amount of people in the bar. Just enough for atmosphere and random conversations, not too much where you're stumbling over people or waiting 20 minutes for a drink. We found two open stools at the bar and sort of just sat for a couple minutes taking in the awesome atmosphere. The bartender came up to us pretty quick and got us some CHEAP awesome drinks. I found the jukebox, put in a buck for five songs, and enjoyed the great music selection from johnny cash to james brown to motorhead. The people here are great. Everybody's just in a good mood, glad to be out and having some good cheap booze in a bar that doesn't take itself too seriously. All in all, we'll be going back to the BroHo again soon. Commonly referred to as the "BroHo" and a popular hangout for legislative staff, (I went to a Super Tuesday Primary party here to watch the Dem election results [which seemed at home with the JFK memorabilia on the walls] on the big screen; how fucking nerdy/awesome is that?) the Brotherhood is a great bar to grab a drink at. It doesn't matter who you are or where you've been because this place always has a great mix of crowds. The bar is very open so you won't feel claustrophobic here. A lot of the seating consists of booths that look like they've been taken from an old fashioned restaurant. There are several tables that can be good for groups. There is also one pool table, and my personal favorite, a shuffle board. Out back there is a patio which is where the smokers usually go. The beer selection is good and happy hour consists of $2 beer. The Brotherhood is a good place to meet up with friends or just grab a drink by yourself and read the paper. And if you get hungry afterwards, downtown Olympia is at your disposal. read more
