Charming small town restaurant with the home cookin' type meals. We had our first visit on a Thursday for dinner. They have a chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken special, which is $12.99, comes with 2 sides. My hub and I shared this meal and also ordered a BBQ burger, comes with thick bacon. We substituted onion rings at an upcharge. The steak wasn't too tender, but it was large and crispy. It was a bit underseasoned. The white cream gravy had that home cookn grease flavor. My hub liked the Italian style green beans, I felt they were too salty. The burger stole the show. We will go back for that. It's a charcoal burger with pretty good BBQ sauce. The cheddar cheese was melted and even though the menu doesn't say it, it comes with lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion. I liked the onion rings. The server was nice and attentive. read more

Food was good but menu is misleading. On the menu it says some entrees come with two sides but that's not true. Some sides are charged extra. apparently you are supposed to be born with this knowledge and OK with the extra charges. just know that the menu says one thing but means another and it's not to the customer's advantage. very Not good. read more

The atmosphere is open, friendly and inviting. We had two servers and both were ok. I had the smothered chicken breast, sweet potato fries and fried okra. My son had the chili burger with fries. Great local spot. Have several celiac family members and this place has great/attentive staff to the gluten allergy needs in addition to gluten free buns. The burgers are amazing! I've actually been here before but it's been many years. I live clear across the metroplex but had good memories from my last visit. I was a little surprised that it wasn't busy in a weeknight but made it easier to order. It did seem to take awhile to cook since there was only one table ahead of us. I would say it was worth the wait though. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and substituted the fries for onion rings. There was slight up charge but not overcharged. I got my burger and as you can see it looks great. They also didn't charge me extra when I asked for a side of ranch for the onion rings. Now I wasn't the biggest fan of the poppy seed bun but it wasn't a deal breaker. I also opted for the smaller 1/4 patty versus the 1/2. Definitely enough to fill me up. I was impressed with the taste. Not the best I've ever had but definitely a good burger. The onion rings were really good. I like good crunchy onion rings that aren't greasy. These were exceptional. Rustic looking place that had a nice set up. My son and I are new to the Farmersville area and wanted to try something new. He ordered chicken tenders and fries (shocker). He thoroughly enjoyed them. I was actually craving a steak. The waitress (who was very attentive and friendly) suggested the steak over the meatloaf. After my first bite I regretted ordering a 22 dollars piece of leather. it. I went there today at 12:30 for lunch. There were 4-5 tables that were occupied. I asked to sit in the bar. I walked into the bar, and the blonde waitress asked me why they seated me in there. I told her I requested it. I found her comment to be rude. They went back to the guy that seats people and asked to sit in a booth in the regular dining area. He seated me in a booth and gave me a menu. I sent there for 5 minutes, they're both waitresses that were on duty came out of the kitchen and ignored me. I picked up my belongings and left. I've been there many times before and have been happy, but I will not be back. As I said, there were only four or five tables occupied in the whole place at 12:30. It wasn't even busy. My wife and I have been looking for a good Sunday breakfast place since Bill's Restaurant closed in McKinney. We had eaten at Charlies about a year ago and it was OK. You order at the counter here. No real problem with that except you wait in line. It took about 30 minutes before our food was brought to the table. The meals were good. Eggs cooked right. Good bacon. Good sausage patties. We missed the blackberry jam that we enjoyed at Bill's. Prices a little high compared to Bill's. Would have been 5 stars if the kitchen was faster, if therewas Blackberry jam, and the price lower. AVOID. I don't know what changed. Many years I said here that their egg burger was the best burger I ever had. We used to enjoy going there. During the last year we have eaten out less than we used to. Mainly because we got out of the habit. We went Friday April 2 and it was horrible! We always get the same thing. DH orders the fried peppers with Blue Cheese Dressing as an appetizer and Blue Cheese Burger. I ordered the egg burger, and DD ordered the grilled cheese with mac and cheese. This time I added an app of cheese fries so I wouldn't be watching DH eat his peppers. DH's fried peppers came but with ranch. This happens always and everywhere no matter how clear he is in ordering. Normally it isn't a problem because they bring out the blue cheese quickly. Also, I like ranch. DH was hungry so he started to eat his fried peppers even without the dressing. Trouble was, they were half pickles. We went up to tell them about the pickles. We got a grunt in response. Eventually they said they'd bring out an order of fried pickles. Note, still no blue cheese dressing. After a long wait, they bring out a new order of fried pickles with blue cheese dressing this time, and my fries as an app, and our entrees. All together. The cheese fry appetizer was a small basket of fries equal to what your get on the side with a burger and about a half tablespoon of unmelted shredded cheese. I sent that back because the point was to have an appetizer. Plus, they should have been ashamed of themselves. DH's burger was fine except that it was well done instead of medium rare that we asked for. Mine was OK except that one of my patties looked like a UFO. Someone didn't bother to flatten the meat. You would think the thick middle would have kept the middle from being overcooked. But, no, my medium rare was also well done. DD liked her grilled cheese. Then she said her mac and cheese was disgusting. I thought she was being weirdly picky. After all, how bad can mac and cheese be? So, I tried it. It was baadddd. As in go to the hospital if you somehow ate it. Rancid milk maybe? Something that sat in the back of the fridge for a month and they just skimmed off the mold? This was that bad. I took the mac and cheese up there. I told them to taste some of the mac and cheese they had in the kitchen. They would be able to see for themselves. I asked them to make up a fresh batch of mac and cheese. They said that they couldn't do that. They offered to replace it with Green Beans or more mac and cheese. DD doesn't like green beans and we had more fries than we needed. DD wanted another grilled cheese. We had her tell them that. We were even willing to order another one. Although, replacing something made with pasta and cheese for something made with bread and cheese shouldn't have been a problem. They told her that she couldn't have another sandwich and that she'd have to order one. So she said she would. Nothing ever came out. She asked where her grilled cheese was. The same person that she'd ordered another one from told her that she hadn't. At that point we just wanted to leave. We looked at the bill which came with the food. We see that it wasn't even rung up correctly. I couldn't decide whether to send something to the restaurant or complain here. I asked around town. Everyone I asked has said Charlie's has gone downhill and they don't go anymore. Since none of the employees did a good job I have to conclude that they don't care anymore. read more
