The Service was good, we had a party of 10 people and they had all of the food ready at once, and let me tell you there was a variety of things ordered. Another very large group was being served close to the same time and the older waitresses were still quick to clean up our mess. I don't get the even remotely negative reviews. This place is so awesome. Reminds me of many places I went with my parents as a kid. The pizza and Mexican food is awesome. You need to get the Mexican pizza, it is delicious. The beer is good, they have plenty of Mexican and other domestics beers, plus some locals. This place is a gem, protect at all costs. Check it out for dinner or lunch for sure. read more

I grew up going here often and the memories of watching the fish in the fish tank, plunking quarters into the jukebox, picking out the dumb dumb of choice as we left and being visited at our table by Charlie himself will forever solidify this place in my heart. The place hasn't changed much since I was a kid...still the same wood paneling and red and white checker board table coverings....BUT...to their credit the food hasn't changed either and this is why I continue to return. If you go...order the Mexican Pizza and Enchiladas. They make fresh daily a secret 'gravy' recipe (seriously...we've been trying to get/replicate it since I was 2) for the enchiladas and it is TO DIE FOR!! read more

What can I say about my favorite childhood restaurant? It holds so many happy memories for me when Charlie was alive and would visit each table and give all the kids dum-dum lollipops. The free lollipops are still there next to the cash register and the food is still as fantastic as it always was. I recommend you try the Mexican Pizza. it is the best Mexican style pizza you will ever eat! No matter what your favorite Pizza might be, they'll have you covered. Charlie's salsa is some of the most amazing and HOT you will ever encounter and I've been trying to crack the recipe for over 30 years. You can also get MILD if you're a bit sensitive. Their enchilada gravy is out of this world and you can order the gravy by itself with a bowl of chips for dipping...YUMMY! If you're worried about your girlish figure, or have an aversion to calories, this is not the place for you. If however, you love DELICIOUS, calorie rich food that just has you smiling really big and your taste buds in pure ecstasy, you'll want to give this place a try. Yes the inside is nothing special and shows a bit of wear and tear, but it is always clean and the waitresses always have a smile on their face. if you like beer, be sure and order a 'Bomber'. They had ONE waitress working the entire restaurant on a busy summer Saturday night. To her credit, she busted her a$$ and got people served with a smile but needless to say we had to wait for quite awhile. The pizzas were quite good, we had the Everything and a Mexican pizza and both were hot and made with fresh ingredients. The margaritas were excellent. Hire one, maybe two more servers and this place will ROCK! Until then, I will go to Abby's Pizza down the street. read more

Just called them and got a gift cert. for some friends. They were helpful & effient. UNLIKE Abbby's who would not and did not, want to go thru the effort to simply take a VISA card and mail it to my friends like Charlie's did in 3 min! The atmosphere was dark, dank and dirty with the hint of smoke and the smells of grease frying in the kitchen. The service was mediocre to say the least and when the food came out to no surprise it was sub-par fare not fit for a king or a pauper. The pizza was slabbed on cheese with cheap toppings with enough grease and grime to feed a house full of rats. The Mexican food was equivalent to Taco Bell but with a high price tag. With so many Mexican restaurants in Madras you can find better. read more

Always drove past so finally stopped. The waitress was very friendly, but you shouldn't be in a hurry when come to eat. We had a pitcher of VERY cold beer nice. The atmosphere is outdated, but very comfortable for kids. The food was fine and the portions decent. read more

As a kid I would go here with my Grandparents and enjoy the best enchiladas I had ever had. Well good news, they are still the best. I now live 2500 miles away, and only get to enjoy during short visits to family. This place is the same as when I was 10 and the food is as good as I remember. Let me mention the salsa..it is so good I have it shipped to me in Texas....Yup it really is that good. I truly think there is no better food in Jefferson County, and sadly nothing like it where i live now. I remember sitting with my grandfather talking to Mike (owner) when I was just a boy, and last visit, guess what.. there was Mike, still out talking with customers. The salsa tastes like grocery store Pace with oregano thrown in. It's hard to tell if it's salsa or spaghetti sauce. We ordered the chips and Mexican gravy, but didn't get the chips. That was our warning, "don't eat this!" The gravy was super greasy, a weird combination of salt, enchilada sauce, salt, pepper, salt, flour and grease. It's almost like white gravy that comes on biscuits, but the fail version. My husband got the cheese enchiladas and spit out his one and only bite. He's not picky, so naturally I had to try. They were swimming in that weird enchilada gravy described above, like a small kiddy pool full of it. It was hard to taste anything else, which is weird seeing as how the gravy doesn't taste like much more than peppery salt. There might have been beans, it's hard to say. It was mushy, greasy, salty as hell and had a weird aftertaste like garlic but not. We got two quesadilas but only ordered one. One was crispy and melty and good, the cheese was a little sharp which was great. The second was a little cool, definitly not grilled and crispy but flabby and floppy and sad. Both were topped with olives, tomatoes and sour cream. Why the olives, though? It was like a wrong note in a familiar song. My husband also got a crispy beef taco and said it was really tasty. The beef was tender and flavorful, shell nice and crunchy, lettuce and tomato and cheese was great. So it seems that everything not poisoned by the gravy taint is actually good! Still, I'd rather go to La Posada or Longboard Louie's for quality Mexican food. I feel like Charlie's is confused - they're too busy making pizza and Mexican food and burgers and spaghetti and nachos and onion rings and steak to actually focus on one thing and do it well. The final insult was packing all the food in large pizza boxes, which made everything slide around and get messy on the ride home. One large box was used for two quesadillas, which was bulky and wasteful. In Madras, we get very small trash cans which don't fit pizza boxes. And they can't be recycled because of the copious amounts of grease at the bottom - greasy cardboard can't be recycled. Not charmimg, just inconvenient. We won't be coming back. read more

This place is vile. The Mexican food is bland at best this despite copious amounts of grease. Hint: Mexican food often contains things like cumin, cilantro, garlic and onions.The meat of choice seems to be limited to ground beef. The 'famous' gravy is a foul mixture of beans and lard covered with cheese and no seasoning to speak of. The pizza was almost as poor. The dough was over fermented leaving an alcoholic taste, the crust was colorless and the sauce was bland. I find it hard to believe a place like this is still open even in a town as small as this. Seven hours later and I am contemplating pulling a 'bulimia.' read more

All i can say is that they have the best salsa i have ever eaten!! When we first tried it 10 years ago we thought wow this is diffrent, but the flavor just grows with you,, We havent lived in the area for years but when ever we go through or have a friend go through we pick up a big gallon bottle, Very bold flavors, a very unique salsa,,, delicious read more
