Who doesn't love local diners? They're cute and have so many dishes to choose from. Charlie's is fairly new to the Forest Park area and it's very charming and quaint inside. They have minimal flower decor but not so much so that's it's overpowering and feel like a Chicago pop up. A friend and I visited and ordered a loc Benedict and a chopped steak meal. To go, we ordered a chicken tender meal. Coffee - very thin. Needed to add tons of sugar and cream (as told by friend). The lox Benedict - fresh salmon for sure but the muffin was very hard. The egg was just right. I wanted more seasoning and the hollandaise sauce didn't add anything to the dish. Chopped steak meal - wasn't a fan. The eggs were delicious. We felt the chopped steak and French toast were alright - they were missing the standard ingredients like cinnamon or butter. I know leaving out spicy seasonings is a thing but having to doctor up each dish was pretty overwhelming. I'd like to give them another try and test out a lunch menu item. read more

Went for breakfast around 10am; was greeted quickly. Sat down and glanced through the menu. The ambiance appeared clean but once started eating had gnats flying around having to continually fan away (suggest a VEVO) . The French toast tastes "eggy". The syrup was made with high fructose. It wasn't clear if they had any healthy alternatives such as egg whites, protein pancakes, or vegan sausage. The peach compote extra $2 tasted like defrosted dole peaches in juice. It appeared that it was only 1 waitress serving- she was quick & efficient but was flat so I would say until changes are made may want to skip this place for a meal! read more

A cute and cozy neighborhood breakfast place in Forest Park. I have drove pass this place so many times. Last week I decided to stop in and check this place out. There is a sign at the door to seat yourself. I did just that and sat by the window to get a view of the outside world. Such a nice clean spacious place. I would of giving this review 5 stars, but the hostess could of act like she enjoyed her job. Not one smile and rush me to place my order. Very dry and rude attitude honey this will not get you a tip. My food came out quickly and I was surprised to say the food was decent. Nice fluffy eggs, hashbrowns were nice and crispy and the sausage could have been cooked a little longer. I was disappointed with my strawberry mimosa cheap champagne. Food good but the server/waitress was so poor. She was on her phone most of the time, had zero eye contact and no smile. She was not willing to help other than getting the order. I saw three sets of people waiting to pay bill at register that had to finally ring the bell for help, might I add there was only four tables with customers. Had to share because so many people want jobs. Find a server with a personally and someone who can smile! read more

Normally I come here for breakfast since they are open 6am-2:30pm, but decided to try them for lunch. They did not disappoint. Service was great, as usual, and the food was delicious. Very generous serving and freshly prepared. I loved that my turkey bacon club had a nice amount of turkey and crispy bacon. I had enough to take home. The food here was ok but I don't know if I will be back. I ordered bagel and lox. They put a giant thick slice of onion on each piece of bagel. Not a big deal but most places serve bagel and lox with a thin slice of onion. My friend got avocado toast and it was literally a piece of toast with slices of avocado on it. I expected a little more since the food isn't cheap. Maybe the other breakfast food is better. read more

If you live in the neighborhood you should try Charlie's. It's a cute breakfast place. The decor was giving conflicting vibes but overall farmhouse style. The server seemed to know most of the people that ate there while is nice if your looking for a frequent spot. The food came out really quick. It just wasn't anything special. It's home cooked food and that's about it. If you don't want to cook one morning or want something just a step above your skill level this is a good place to check out. I just don't know that I'd drive through the city to get here and that's why I took off two stars. It's a cute local spot to check out. read more

Went there on a saturday afternoon around twelve thirty almost one o'clock. The server did not seem to be a very happy to be at her job that day. A family came in at 115p first thing out of your mouth was. I need to take your order cause we're closing soon. This is before they even sat down. At around 130 she came to us and said she needed to close out our check cause we're closing soon. All while she was on a cell phone call. I'm part of a running group and we arranged a group breakfast at a convenient location after a nearby 5K race. We reserved a few tables for our planned group of 15. Service was super efficient even though we were there on a Sunday morning. We've been to other places that are annoyed at members of our group trickling in and arriving at various times after finishing up a race. We even had a few more members unexpectedly stop by and they were easily accommodated and seated at a nearby table. Prices were reasonable, food was good and the portions were generous. Although I miss the old name, I'm loving everything about this place now! The interior looks amazing - they did a great job with the update after the fire. It was fairly busy but the server was friendly, quick, and we got our food out hot and in reasonable time. I was very happy with my biscuits and gravy - something I find lacking in this town. My son devoured his grand slam kid's meal. And my husband enjoyed his Mexican skillet - and he was surprised to find it was actually spicy! Through the aftermath of fire (Andrea's), can an established restaurant be even better? In a phrase - YES THEY CAN!! And, they did. Let me tell you how... Long loved by our family, their breakfast is one of the best - bar-none! Food is fresh, abundant portions, you don't feel cheated, that they've skimped on portions, and the price point is right! Coupled with excellent service with smiles, and a fresh redecoration (you feel like you're transported to a small beach town restaurant like New Buffalo, Michigan), this is a must-go place. We've been for their dinner too- which is excellent as well- but for this review it's about the breakfast. Remember, all tastes fresh! I had the Hobo skillet - just the right crisp on the hash browns, eggs to perfection. My wife had the French toast - again - excellent! Host had a mask but only covering mouth. Server said she had a medical condition and didn't wear a mask. Even though she was standing 6 feet, she was still serving food. Host let in customers who were not wearing masks and did not require customers who were talking to bathroom to put on their masks. My family and I decided to try Charlie's after seeing an advertisement in the local paper. Some of their specials (see photo) were enough to get us there, the service and atmosphere is what will bring us back. Everybody was nice and friendly. Tables/booths are spacious enough for our family of 4. The whole place has been updated and the menu has breakfast all day as well as lunch and dinner options. I decided to try this place after reading the Yelp reviews. They have redecorated the entire inside. It looks great. The food was good but I wasn't impressed with the service. The waitress was on her phone the entire time we were there. She was not at all Friendly. Nor was she wearing a mask. I felt we were imposing. Maybe she was having a bad day? I just didn't like the energy here. Even the man filling our coffee cups was gruff; he didn't speak even when directly Spoken to. Not even a smile. There was a man there who some of the customers were calling Charlie. I'm assuming that's the owner. He was was not very friendly either. I wish I could tell you how the food taste, but we never received our order. To start off it was a Saturday morning, we called ahead of time to see how long the wait was and there was no wait. We got there in 10 minutes. We sat down immediately. The place wasn't even half full. The waitress came and took our order immediately. There was a guy who only had one job and that was to keep the coffee and water full. We were there for 30 minutes and not once did he come and refill our coffee or water. He didn't even look our way. After about 45 minutes I started looking around and noticed people that walked in after us were already eating. We called the waitress over and asked if she could check on our food. She comes back and asked us what did we order? We reminded her of our order, and I watch her go talk to the cooks and all I see is them shaking their heads. No. they give her a stack of tickets and tells her to find it. Then she came back and she told us she doesn't know where she placed our ticket and if we can give them a few minutes and they'll start on our order. I was already furious. We sat there for 45 minutes with no coffee refills and the owner is looking right at us the entire time and never once thought to tell the waitress to check our food or to come to us and ask if we're OK. On our way out, I told the owner what had happened and he looked at me with a blank stare , and then turns to the waitress and ask her what happen as we're walking out. However, we did end up at Portillos right down the street and I would recommend them! read more

The inside of this place is beautiful, with whitewashed brick, modern flooring, cute stuffed animals at every other booth to promote social distancing, and holiday themed decor. Outside of looks, the menu is very "diner-esque" (lots of choices, laminated pages, most options coming with a side and dessert) and that's exactly what I like. Some places are too boujee for comfort, with 1 page menus and overpriced food, but this place is reasonably priced. My meal + a drink was around $20 after tip which isnt terrible. My wife and I finally gave this place a shot after 2 years of driving past it on errand runs. Tonight we broke the seal and we couldn't be happier. Due to pandemic safety guidlines we were seated outside on Thomas Street shaded by trees, right alongside the restaurant, which created a chill neighborhood vibe. My wife had the Gyros Platter with salad, fries and a glass of Rosé. I had the Baked Meatloaf (chicken noodle soup side) with hash browns, cooked carrots and a Ballast Point IPA. Each dinner came with a dessert, so we rolled with one scoop each of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Excellent service, hearty food, cozy ambiance and great value. My family and I love coming here. It's such a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. So glad they are back open! Very nice job decorating the restaurant. The decor for the holidays is so classy! Brunch is our favorite! My husband likes the Eggs Benedict, my daughter enjoys the kids pancake breakfast (& dum dum for dessert), and I like the veggie skillet. We haven't had much more from the menu besides the breakfast so I can't really speak for that. Go for brunch! You won't be disappointed. read more
