Old review: October 2022 I don't remember the true name of this establishment (it has since been rebought and rebranded by another NOLA inspired kitchen). But it was a music/ pool hall that served Louisiana inspired cuisine. My ex and I went here to give it a try as it was the only thing opened after 10:00 pm. Very chill ambient and atmosphere. Low population of people and the music was 90s and soul. Our server was a nice young white guy who knew the menu and had recs. We ordered the gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp and grits. We also ordered two drinks. The food was not horrific but definitely needed pointers and tips. The rice in the jambalaya was still slightly undercooked. The roux of the gumbo was off. Not burnt and not salty, but I could not put my finger on it. The grits were also undercooked but the shrimp were decent. Ehh... left ALOT to be desired! We were looking for close late night eats due to flooding in our area. I saw this place on Google, and we dropped in at like 1020 pm... There were a couple of bar patrons, but no dining patrons. Which was cool. We sat wherever and were promptly greeted with menus. I excitedly ordered a hand grenade, being a die-hard NOLA lover! We ordered bbq shrimp, pasta Orleans, fried cat, and red beans and rice. The catfish was good, the fries weren't great. The pasta Orleans wasn't good to me. My boo liked it, lol. He liked his red beans and rice and said it needed more gravy. The fried foods would probably be the way to go. It's an old dingy dive bar with this restaurant inside. When u walk in this place it's kinda dingy & the bathrooms confirm it. It's one of those bars that constantly changes their name to make you think they've made major changes but u walk in only to be disappointed once again. We came in on a slow Tuesday night where there were only 6 patrons in there. We ordered wings as an appetizer and although they were large, they definitely were not good quality and the sauce was spicy but not Buffalo. The bartender was doing double duty as a server and couldn't keep up with the tiny crowd. My shrimp po' boy was good but the fries were over cooked. Went with a friend on a Friday evening. We ordered gumbo, fried pickles, and all-you-can-eat catfish; the catfish came with french fries and tarter sauce. We ordered drinks, I had a Hurricane, and my friend wanted to order Hennessey, but we were told it was locked and the key was not available. They offered Remy and she accepted. Overall the food was good. The gumbo was the best dish. The fish didn't taste like catfish, more like swai. The Hurricane was fruity tasting but not boozy. The atmosphere was chill. The staff was nice. Prices were decent. read more

I've visited this restaurant twice now, once for brunch and once for Mardi Gras. This is my Mardi Gras review...we chose gumbo to start with and a Hand Grenade, which is the strongest French Quarter drink. It was delicious with the distinctive melon liqueur flavor. The gumbo was excellent. For our entree we had jambalaya, of course. It wasn't spicy hot at all which I appreciated. The rice was so tasty that I really wish I had the recipe. The chicken presentation was a bit unusual but not unprecedented in that it was placed bone and all on top of the rice, like a chop. It was a great dish. We ordered the beignets to go and received four small ones which were still warm when we arrived home; lovely with all that powdered sugar! The waitress was attentive and staff stood outside waving Mardi Gras flags on Madison. Nola was decorated with some beads and I was encouraged to throw a few of my own to hang over the bar for next year. Employees work very hard there and I'd like to see this restaurant do well. read more

Apparently it's a pop up kitchen inside a bar. When we went there the bar staff were great, the drinks were good. But it's a dive bar. They're trying to add a food service component. We had a couple appetizers and they were not good. The wings were ok. I watched a lot of food come out that looked really sad. Like the beans and rice didn't look seasoned. The food looked watery. It didn't look like Cajun/creole, it was just a fail. Overall my friend and I had a laugh about it, but the whole place was a mess. read more

Well this was a mixed bag experience. Our server was super friendly and our boys loved him. On the other hand, if there's any confusion as I had, this is a bar that cooks creole, not a restaurant with a bar. Upon entering there was old food on the floor, the table we had "reserved" was very wobbly and we were seated elsewhere. My son had to use the washroom and it was very dirty and no paper towels to dry your hands. Fortunately there was soap. On to the food. We selected off the Mother's Day brunch menu. The Benigets were fresh hot and tasty. My wife got eggs and pancakes and bacon. Her pancakes were too cold to melt the butter, but she did say everything tasted good. I ordered a cup of gumbo which was on the hot side but cooling rapidly. Had to eat quickly. It had good flavor and a nice spice to it. Decent chunks of sausage. I also ordered the shrimp and grits and a cup of coffee. The coffee was good. Not burnt and not weak and not cold. The shrimp and grits looked like it was swimming in oil unfortunately. I had to use between 10-15 napkins to soak up all the oil. Beyond that it was warm with a nice amount of tasty, tender shrimp. The grits were flavorful as well. Overall I think this place has a lot of potential with a little tlc. Hopefully the owners decide to put a little more care and effort into their establishment and put this spot on the map as a great Forest Park eating destination. read more

Terrrible! Should have reat the reviews before ordering here! I ordered the Jambalaya, another person said they had 5 pieces of andouille sausage I had 2 slices. The chicken drumstick on top was previously cooked, refrigerated, and then reheated and served to me. I HATE reheated chicken! This place is a true disappointment. read more

I expected so much more but unfortunately was very very disappointed! We ordered drinks, the beer was warm ... glass wasn't even chilled. The diet soda had absolutely no flavor. We were told the bar & kitchen are different owners so it was brushed off. The menu in the restaurant is total different than online menu. Then we were told after seeing food others received that was yet another menu. The appetizers were great but food was cold & extremely salty. The workers at the bar didn't look like they were there to work instead maybe do gardening or what to wear at home. This place is SO bad! Nothing is clean, the food is not fresh and had a funky stink to it. Plus I hear the owners are being sued by the previous person they rented a kitchen space from in Westchester? I imagine they won't last here either. I have passed by this place multiple times and finally made it. Ordered different things to taste all the hype. We started with gumbo and wings (garlic Parmesan and buffalo). Gumbo was okay needed a little flavor and had 2 little pieces of sausages. Wings were good though! For entrees, ordered pasta orleans, jambalaya, catfish po boy. Pasta orleans was delish and a good size portion. Jambalaya was okay and a quarter leg of chicken was on top. Also had long island ice tea and that was refreshing! I did addressed the manager and server the bathroom need to more clean and the unwanted little friend on our tray! Didn't realize it until we picked up the plate. Casual dining and was not busy and also have an option for outside seating! If you enjoy playing pool, there's 2 tables which was nice when waiting for our orders to come! Ensure that you come when the actual chef is cooking because he is amazing. However this last time our crab legs came out cold and the butter was congealing. The response from the sous chef was dismissive and rude. The bartender is inattentive, and managed to get the food wrong twice and also forgot one part of our two part food order and refilled our beer glasses using the same glasses with the used orange rinds inside. If and when I return I will ensure that the head chef is cooking cause he is exceptional. read more
