We had 5 in our group. Service was good. Only reason there's a 3 is due to 2 reasons. 1) the walleye selection had a lot of bones and it was probably northern pike. The outside is understated enough that we almost didn't go in. However, we decided to be adventurous and entered. To our delight, the entire interior had been remodeled and looked lovely. More importantly, the menu was diverse and the food was fantastic. We highly recommend Charlie's Up North for anyone looking for some great cooking with a full bar. We had the broasted chicken dinner and the mushroom-swiss cheese burger. Both were outstanding. read more

Our recent visit to the bar left us all disappointed. Our group of 20 comes here every year for karaoke. Last week, we called twice to make sure of the karaoke time. We arrived and nothing was set up so naturally we ordered some drinks while waiting. Finally, karaoke starts....for about 20 minutes...then our group is told "it's over". Why? Apparently the owner of the bar decided to drop in with his wife (they were celebrating an anniversary) and he didn't want karaoke played, just music and dance. For a group of 20, who spends hundreds of dollars here, and makes a special trip JUST for the karaoke, I don't have to tell you what a bummer that was. DJ didn't even bring a screen for words or books to look thro. What kind of karaoke doesn't have words on a screen? Total disappointment this year! read more

The food is pretty good but the service is bizarre. Heard a lot of F-Bombs coming from the kitchen..especially while we were waiting for our silverware. When our salads were served and the waitress told us she was going to 'search' for some--she wasn't kidding. Finally we got some silverware but wow that was wild...apparently they had been 'slammed' prior to our arrival. Anyway on to the food. I had the broasted chicken and it was juicy and very tasty!! A wonderful surprise after the other hijinx. My husband and daughter had the Philly sandwich. The sandwich was piled high with an amazing roast beef, the bread was great and super filling. The French fries were perfect. Not too soft and not too overdone. Just right. My other daughter had Fish & Chips. The breeding on the fish was light and so so good. Very happy with her meal! When our check came another waitress brought it to us and didn't divide it up. Seemed like some unusual power play. We asked for it to be re-divided up and our original waitress came back with the correct bills. Bizarre. When it was all said and done our experience was super-strange but our food was great! We have been to Charlie's a total of 4 times and have given up on the place. Our first visit wasn't bad so we went back. The next time we were there was on their Chinese night. My wife's food was cold and we asked for it to be replaced. Chef Mike is alive and well at Charlie's, they used a microwave on her food. Our third time there was short. We walked in at 6:20pm on Saturday for their prime rib night. As we sat down the waitress told us they were out of prime rib; they start serving at 4:00pm. Very disappointing that they would run out that fast. Our 4 and final time was on February 13th 2016. We went out for our Valentines Day dinner. We went early so we would have prime rib. We did. The chefs apparently do not know how to trim a rib. My wife and I both ordered the 20oz cut. Both orders had an excessive amount of fat on them, about a third of the order. The meat itself was tepid at best. The bread that was served before the meal with the salad was tough. It had been warmed in a microwave. The vegetables served on the side also had that microwave toughness and taste about them. Charlie's is fine if you want expensive microwaved food. Also the service does leave a lot to be desired, being slow. I've tried their ribs... not worth it. Zona Rosa's in downtown Walker (a Mexican restaurant) has far better prime rib Fox Wild read more

My husband and I stopped for a late dinner one night. I ordered the walleye sandwich and bowl of wild rice soup. My husband ordered steak. We were both very dissappointed. My walleye was cold dried up and about 1/8 inch thick, much closer to jerky. My wild rice soup had no wild rice in it and appeared to be canned soup with extra chicken thrown in. My husbands steak was also terrible. Our waitress seemed annoyed we came in since it was so close to closing time. When she finally came to our table and asked how everything was, I told her not very good and explained. All she said is I should'vve said something sooner, no apology or discount. Patrick's used to be our favorite place. The shrimp was succulent and the service was friendly. It was an altogether special place to go. Not anymore. The shrimp was tough and the servers were rude. I wondered if they ever smile. When I said the prime rib was too rare and not medium rare she rolled her eyes at me If we go back again it will be just for the salad and soup bar. Last summer I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it tasted like it was in the cooler for a month. Complained to head waitress and was told she would get me another one. Why? If this one tasted like carp why bother. She charged full price and she was snooty. I will never go back to eat there again and I tell all my friends how badly I was treated. I did not eat but one mouthful and was treated so badly. I never write reviews but felt it was in best interest for anyone thinking of eating there. read more

Food was fine...unfortunately there were 6 of us and we were placed in a room that was apparently set up for some meeting. The fat slob that was supposed to be conducting the meeting was very loud and obnoxious about how we should not be there - in spite of being seated by a member of the waitstaff. We ended up being handed containers to pack up and leave because of the jerk from the chamber of commerce. Given his appearance - he could stand to miss a few meals. Will never visit the place again. We have been here a few times and no more. The meal was terrible, service was lousy. The salad bar is boring, and they were out of soup and we let them know, never restocked. We ordered chicken and ribs, ribs were under done, chicken was supposed to be 2 white pieces and we got a thigh and a dried up wing. So overpriced for what you get you will leave so disappointed. Besides the completely unknowlegable waitress and terribly tough and chewy pork brisket sandwich ever!!! absolute opposite of what a tender and succulent brisket should be, the waitress obviously showed she could care LESS!!! read more

My wife kids and myself ate here on Valentine's Day. Ordered the kids grilled cheese and fries and they were great. Wife and I ordered prime rib special....not good. 60% of the cut was fat and they both came out cold! Both dinners were cold to the touch and the au jus was the same way. Told the waitress and they were brought to the kitchen to be "reheated". No apologies from the waitress and finally the food came back "reheated" and the waitress forgot butter and sour cream for my wife. That finally came back after 5 minutes after the baked potato was cold and the sour cream packet was old and separated. We forced down a few more bites of the overly fatty meat and each left about 3 quarters. The waitress asked if we needed a box and I said "I've had enough". She grabbed the plates and came back with our bill. We were surprised there was not a discount or any apology of how our food was. We will never be back unfortunately and we plan to come to come to Leech Lake several times again and like to go out to lunch and dinner. I would not order anything except fried bar food. They can't handle prime rib. So glad we did not order the surf and turf for $35! Very overpriced. read more
