I stopped here for the first time on Friday night. I was by myself, so can only vouch for what I ordered. I got half rack of ribs, coleslaw and baked beans. The coleslaw was listed as homemade, and it was. Very tasty, as were the beans. The ribs were the star of the show, though. They were meaty, perfectly done and well seasoned. I prefer a spicier sauce but theirs was pretty darn good for the upper Midwest. I can't wait to bring my family and try more of the menu. I called before a made the drive to Hack, because I'm sometimes frustrated to find them not open when I wish they were. I talked to Joe and he was very informative. The woman who took my order was sweet and efficient. I wish them success. I think they have craved out in the place in the local dining scene. read more

Great ribs. 1/2 rack was plenty and great value. Good smoke and bark. Didn't need sauce... but comes with it anyway. Beans get a thumbs up. Sweet and made with trimmings. Cole slaw is a poor man's version of KFC slaw. Just not as sweet. Highly recommend. (Order and take over to Rendezvous Brewery to eat inside or outside across from the park/lake and have a beer.) read more

I adore food trucks! They are the fun food on the go. Looking at the reviews, maybe I just chose poorly. I had the ribletss and I found them to be a little too spicy, even without the BBQ sauce that was on the side. At $9 for 2 strips you can beat the price and the smell was AMAZING. The 2 people in front of me ordered the pulled pork. That is what I am going to get next time and maybe then I can upgrade my review. read more

Bottom Line: Okay BBQ at commensurate prices. Stop if they're open I guess. You could do worse. Top Line: Sliced brisket sandwich meat was very, very tender and generous in portion size. Juiciness was at play as well. However, the smoke note on the meat was largely AWOL. On a smoke scale of zero (Grandma's Sunday beef pot roast) to ten (Texas burnt ends ambrosia), the brisket at Butts & Buns slid in around 3 or 4. So, great texture in the sandwich but registering as somewhat bland due to missing smokiness. Sweet'ish, tangy BBQ sauce with a nice spicy bite was a welcome addition. Bun was soft & tender, but proved insufficient to corral the load o' brisket draped in it due to sogging out from the BBQ sauce. Napkins & finger wash-up post meal were definitely called for. BBQ beans and cole slaw were pretty middle of the road. Decent flavor and texture. Good enough I guess we could say. But not going to redefine your culinary reality. Window crew was nominally friendly, though not particularly friendly nor engaging. They did their job, so that bar got cleared anyway. read more

It's easy to dismiss a trailer parked in a small town as not worth trying but I'm very happy we stopped in during a fishing trip. My buddy and I were definitely up for some quality BBQ and Butts & Buns delivered the goods. Our biggest challenge was figuring out when the trailer was going to be open! Anyway, if you're in Hackensack or anywhere near Butts and Buns and interested in enjoying excellent BBQ (we had ribs and pulled pork) instead of slapping mosquitos, be sure to stop here. I have had Butts & Buns bookmarked for quite a few years, but they were not open most of the times we were visiting the area. The stars finally aligned, and we made it here while B&B was open! Not to leave any suspense at the end, WOW! The ribs here are the stuff of legend. This is what we bought for four people: 2 full racks of ribs, 2 lbs of brisket, 1 qt of homemade bbq beans, 1 qt of homemade coleslaw, 4 corn bread muffins, and a requisite amount of bbq sauce. We over bought by a juuuust little. These ribs are very meaty, so one rack will easily serve four people. So far the brisket has made nine sandwiches, and there is still some left. So as I have already said, we love the ribs, also love the bbq sauce, the corn bread and the beans. The brisket is good, not the same as the ribs, but good. The smoke is just right, not too strong, but not overpowered by the bbq sauce. Today is the last day before they close for the season. We still have beans, ribs, bbq sauce, and brisket left. But, we're trying more! I will report back on how the pulled pork sandwich, chicken back wrap, and chili cheese dog taste. read more

This is a food truck right off HWY 371 in the parking lot of Marks Market. The owner is super nice. The smoked chicken and pulled pork are AMAZING. We're out-of-towners stopping for lunch. Owner was very friendly. My husband and I shared the smoked chicken sandwich, 1/2 rack of ribs, beans & coleslaw. Chicken sandwich was flavorful and big, the chicken was really tender; the ribs were fall-off-the-bone smoked BBQ goodness. Beans were rich with tidbits of smoked meat; coleslaw was fresh and light. We love this place! The pulled pork sandwiches are delicious! Always an exciting time to drive into town and see that it's open. Be prepared to eat in the car or take home. Otherwise there are a couple of picnic tables if you want to sit and eat. read more

Joe from Butts and Buns catered my wedding in September. I remember looking around at the tables of my loved one eating...and it was pure silence. They were all stuffing their faces. They couldn't get enough of his BBQ Goodness. The food is fantastic and Joe and his family are a great group of people. Excellent ribs! This is a small roadside food truck with the smoker out back. Choices were plentiful. The whole rack of ribs was for 2 people and we still had leftovers. Potato salad and beans were delicious! One of the best meals this trip. read more

First time purchase; full rack of ribs for a quick dinner. Nice bark, but not overdone; plenty of meat on dem bones; not a lot of spicing; nicely smoked. Sauce was too sweet for us and know that it would be just fine for most folks. Will buy again and want to try some other dishes.
