I had a really disappointing experience here. As I was going to show the bouncer my ID, I briefly tripped. I had been drinking, but I was completely coherent, able to communicate normally, and was not slurring my words, falling over, or behaving disorderly. Despite this, the bouncer immediately assumed I was too intoxicated to enter and refused me entry. What really bothered me was the way the situation was handled. The bouncer grabbed my arm and physically escorted me away from the entrance in a way that felt unnecessarily aggressive and humiliating. I understand that bouncers have a responsibility to make judgment calls about intoxication and safety and I have no issue with being denied entry if they genuinely believe someone is too intoxicated. There is, however, a respectful way to handle these situations. What made the experience even more upsetting was what he said to my friend afterward. He told him that they "don't allow people like her in here." I understand he may have been referring to my level of intoxication, but that wording was extremely inappropriate. As someone who is half Asian, I found the comment particularly concerning and it honestly felt discriminatory regardless of what his intent was. I left feeling extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed by the way I was treated. Being denied entry is one thing, being treated disrespectfully and spoken about in that way is another. Unfortunately based on this experience I would not feel comfortable returning. read more

Came here a few weeks back with some friends on a Friday night. It was surprisingly crowded, or at least the line was long even though the actual inside seemed relatively empty. The line did move quickly though and we were in in less than 15 minutes. No cover either. There was plenty of seating both inside and outside, as well as a second story which I didn't get a chance to see. We sat at a long table close to the sidewalk and had a couple rounds of beers. I had a D9 drink which was cold and refreshing. Not sure how potent it was, but I enjoyed nonetheless. We visited this spot on Saturday night. Mixed crowd. Three floors of music and drinks? Yeah, thats my type of vibe. Ample seating. The tree in the middle of the restaurant/bar adds a slightly romantic theme to the place. It's giving an elevated Tarzan vibe. Great for pictures. Too many beer options to count so we ordered mixed drinks. We tried 3 different appetizers. Mac and cheese bites, tuna wontons and burrata. My favorite appetizer was the tuna wontons even though it was messy, it was super flavorful. I've never had eel sauce and I didn't think twice about it after I started eating. The burrata was good. Huge spot with more beer taps than you can count! We came for a birthday dinner with a large group on a Friday evening and surprisingly had no issues getting a large table downstairs. I imagine it's get much livelier at night. The cocktails are subpar (stick with what they're known for or a well drink if you want liquor), but the burger was great. Charlotte Beer Garden is a lot of fun! I love the aesthetic of the outside, and the inside of the restaurant is no less visually appealing! There are three (3) floors, with the top floor having an awesome balcony setup. I haven't spent much time on the ground floor, but I love the middle floor as well, as that appears to be where they store their brewing apparatus, as well as TVs to watch the sports games on. Management should be ashamed of themselves. I was there the day the USMNT played at the stadium, and CBG was completely unprepared. Only 1 bartender at each bar, each floor, the whole day. Service was slow and terrible. They shut down the kitchen because there were to many orders so we couldn't get food, and it was 1pm. So disappointing, what a giant failure by management. read more

One word to describe this place is overwhelming. There are a lot of draft beers to choose from, and 3 different floors on which to retrieve said beers. It's very well executed considering too. I opened a tab on the 1st floor bar and we were able to walk around to the other floors and order beers and cocktails at the other bars too. I had a Cheerwine Wheat beer, an Alagash White, and an Old Fashioned and wow, what a great old fashioned, especially for a beer bar! DO NOT GO HERE on a Friday! I was greeted by the hostess and that was the only positive part of my experience. The bartender had no sincere of customer service, and when I asked how she was she responded with "what's up". We ordered drinks at the bar and sat at a table. We waited two hours before being acknowledged. They had staff members (4) chatting by the bar, and when we asked for assistance they refused to service us. This "next best thing to getting to Charlotte breweries" is a pretty good thing on its own. With lots of space, multiple levels with multiple seating options, including a rooftop area, It's a great space for parties of any size to get together. The drinks available on each floor are well organized, but in some cases so overwhelming that I'm sure some of the bartenders need a directory for what's currently available. That's especially true on the first floor with all those beers on tap! I didn't order food, but it looked delicious and seemed to come out quickly. My one disappointment was that they did not seem to have a significant number of beers of the types I like (darker ones), but that could have again been the result of having to know or find them among the hundreds available. I noticed this spot while walking to another bar nearby, and decided we had to check it out before heading home. Nate and I were in the area randomly so I didn't know what was around. I'm glad we found this spot! We had a great experience but I think that's due to the time we got there. It wasn't super busy yet, so we were able to grab a couple spots at one of the main floor bars. There are several bars throughout the whole building, which is three stories tall and pretty roomy inside. There's also a nice outdoor area. They have 400+ taps and the menu online is pretty easy to navigate. The bar downstairs was listed as all "local" options, and the bar upstairs was "international". I opted for a couple of flights in order to try a bunch of different things. The first flight I did was all cider, and the second flight I chose some weird sounding beer that I probably would never drink a whole pint of. The bartender helping us was super swamped and it was getting crazy busy by the time we left. She was doing her very best and we really appreciated her. I liked most of the offerings I tried, even though some were really weird (like the bright green, Ecto cooler sour beer). It's fun to try some things you might never see again. They do have a full bar and bottled beer so I saw people ordering mixed drinks and buckets of Miller Lite. There's something for everyone. The crowd seemed to mostly be people in their 20s and 30s, and I could see it getting kind of rowdy. We ordered a pepperoni pizza to share, which was delicious! It was super cheesy and had great flavor. A good meal to go with your beer. I liked the tree inside the building, and the bar stools were actually comfortable. We had our carry on suitcase as we were on our way to the airport, and they graciously offered to hold it behind the host stand for us, which was really nice. Justin started us out with some incredible tastes that resulted in an incredible beverage: Raspberry Birthday Cake, an incredibly tasty brew! My daughter got a cider and Brannigan made a Blueberry Mule that was wonderful. Lunch was a sumptuous Swiss burger with carmelized onions and mushrooms. food is bad, day time service is fine, but this weekend we went out for my friends bday (he's 26) and we're all 21+ and without even checking our ids they wouldn't let us in. I know of so many under age kids getting into beer garden. It wasn't like they were full and couldn't take anyone, they were just selecting people out that looked younger. My fault for not looking 30 at 22. The cops were 10 feet away in their car, a fake id is a felony and the bouncers taking their $18 an hour job too seriously, is thinking I'd risk arguing that I'm of age just for a cop to be able to get that info on seconds.
