My wife and I spent an early birthday celebration at The Foodie School for their sushi-making class, and somewhere between the sticky rice, sharp knives, and the quiet panic of trying not to destroy a roll in front of strangers, we had an unforgettable night. The evening wasn't some stiff cooking demonstration where you nod politely while a chef talks at you for two hours. This was hands-on, messy in the best way, and surprisingly intimate. We made an appetizer that looked like something from a downtown izakaya, rolled two different styles of sushi, and finished with matcha ice cream that tasted clean, earthy, and just indulgent enough to make you pause for a second before the next bite. Chefs Mara & Elon struck that rare balance between knowledgeable and approachable. No ego. No culinary theater. Just people who genuinely love food and want you to love making it too. And that's really what made the night work. Food wasn't treated like content for Instagram. It was treated the way it should be: as a shared experience. A little chaotic, a little imperfect, and far more satisfying because you made it yourself. If you're looking for a different kind of date night in Rock Hill -- one where you leave full, slightly proud of yourself, and smelling faintly of soy sauce and sesame oil -- this is the place.

Such a fun and unique experience, totally different from a typical night out. I had a very disappointing experience at Empire Beauty School in Concord on August 14, 2026. I want…read moreto acknowledge that Ori was phenomenal during my previous visit, which is why I returned, and Ms. K was also professional, kind, and handled my hair with care. Unfortunately, the student I initially received this time was the complete opposite. I will provide her name in my formal complaint. I told her I was tender-headed, but my hair was still handled roughly, her tone was dismissive, and the snide comments continued. She also seemed more focused on her cell phone than on me as the customer. What was most disappointing were the indirect remarks about "it's a beauty school" and "you can't please everyone." Being a student does not excuse disrespect or poor customer service. Ori and Ms. K showed that excellent service can absolutely exist in a learning environment. Unfortunately, what I experienced on 8/14/26 was customer disservice. I hope management takes this seriously because how you treat people matters just as much as technical skill.
