After reading the current reviews I wanted to speak out on this store and any other store that services sewing machines. People need to understand that most of the sewing machines sold at retailers are not very high quality. They are almost throwaways. When you try to get these repaired it will almost cost you as much as you paid for them. We have bought multiple machines from this store. When my wife started out she began on very basic machines and a couple from retailers in that process. However, as she became more experienced she transitioned over to a dealer. This made a world of difference. She got into better built machines. The dealers also back up their products, provide classes, advice etc. We have bought from dealers in New Mexico, Texas, CA, Kansas and North Carolina. Many different company machines too. Always quality machines with great support. That is what a dealer provides. When you come in with a retail or very old machine or a product that has no available support or parts etc., theses dealers know that this type of product is going to effect the persons success and happiness with sewing. They are not trying to force you to buy one of their new machines because they are after profit. It is better for you and will run better, last longer, easier to keep it running and serviced etc. They are actually trying to help. We know by experience that getting into a quality machine makes sewing so much better and less frustrating. Consumers are led to believe or expect something like the retail machine to last forever. It just won't compared to a quality machine. Yes back in the day of the old time Singer machines they where and are workhorses. In fact we own one and still use it from time to time. But that machine cannot do what our current machines do. Basically it does 1 thing very well. But Singer is not what it use to be. They are now owned by a new company paid for the name basically. It is now their entry level machine for home use and beginners. They will get better over time I believe. That company sells high end machines as well. Retail is all still mostly crap. They provide them too. Singers sold by a dealer today are different and a little better than those sold at retail too. They are still very entry level. If you are going to sew very little or need a machine to see if you like sewing, than MAYBE a retail will work. I have seen them out of the box not sew good. I even tried to get it fixed and it just would not sew right. But you might get away with it. Now if you want to do the same thing but want to have a more successful start, at least buy the low end Singer from a dealer. They are better than the retail versions. You can't even buy the current retail versions from a dealer that I know. But if you know you like sewing and know you will be doing it for a while, then at least step up to a basic dealer sold machine. That will cost a little bit more, maybe around $400, but you will not get frustrated before you start and then give up. From our experience with Bill, he has never tried to up sell us. He tries to listen to what we are wanting to use the machine for and then shows us the machines. Of coarse money verses features and our wants comes into effect. It is hard to sell you the top of the line machine at a beginners price. But as you grow you can keep and use those machines stepping up as you go. BTW, quality machines should be service once a year if you sew on them frequently. Remember these machines are an investment. read more

I called this morning to ask about having my grandmother's sewing machine fixed. He told me if I came by that he would give me a free estimate and that tune ups started at $100, so I drove half an hour out of my way to visit. When I walked in I wasn't greeted but just waited while two other people were in front of me, that's fine, I understand. He then came over and asked me if I wanted a repair (still didn't introduce himself), so he takes my sewing machine out of my bag and sets it on a table. A younger guy came up, didn't introduce himself either, and told me it'd be $125 to tune up. I also feel like I was scolded for replacing the gears myself and not having it professionally done. Now if the lady that wasn't there that was so interested in a new machine, I bet I would've gotten better service. I go out of my way to support small businesses, but this one isn't worth a damn. read more

This sewing center/shop is wonderful!!! I cannot recommend it highly enough! The sewing machines they carry are top of the line and the employees are always more concerned about finding what the customer actually wants and needs and not just about making a sale. The owner, Bill, is a fantastic guy!! He is always extremely knowledgeable, not only about the machines he offers but other brands as well!! I got such amazing customer service from him- I'd never go anywhere else to buy a machine. He really took his time to help me with my new machine and went above and beyond! All the associates are friendly and very helpful- they make it so enjoyable to come here! I just can't speak highly enough of them :) read more

Took machine in for service on Wednesday, they said it would be ready Friday. Called Saturday mid-afternoon and it was still not ready. They said they could get it by 5 pm, but I didn't want them to rush (especially at their high price!) I asked if they would be open Monday (a holiday for some) and they said they would be. But their phone was apparently off the hook ALL DAY on Monday, and they never responded to my email; didn't want to drive an hour and find them closed. I finally was able to get my machine back on Saturday, a week after it was promised. Will not use this shop again! read more

I also purchased a baby lock serger (really good deal off of the MSRP) from the Charlotte Sewing Center which offer free classes, video's as well as very well written help manuals from the baby lock manufacturer, for all my future sewing needs I will return to the Charlotte Sewing center. read more

I called to determine if they could repair my Singer machine. I told her exactly what model machine I had. She said YES, bring it in. (Singer repair shops are hard to come by since Singer has become difficult with their licensing.) So we drove over 2 hours. When we entered, carrying my machine, the gentleman looked at me like "What is that thing?" I told him of my conversation, and without even looking at it further, he said they could not work on it. However, he wasted no time trying to sell me a new machine and telling me what a piece of junk mine was! My husband was obviously upset about the treatment. Enough so that the gentleman did offer the name of another shop nearby that might - or might not -- be able to fix it. So we went there. The person there was so nice and honest about the Singer machine and what he could and could not do per the licensing agreement, that I ended up buying a new computerized machine from him! And he worked on my Singer for free! read more
