Elaine came to our house last week to service our grandfather clock after we moved from California. The clock had only been serviced once in the eighteen years that we most recently lived in California, and was in significant need of cleaning and recalibrating. While she was here, she also repaired a mantle clock that had been damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1988 and stopped running years ago. We had given up on it, but because Elaine did such a wonderful job with our grandfather clock, we asked her to look at that too. It was a wedding gift from my parents, and we're thrilled to have use of it again. Elaine is a true professional. It was easy to schedule an in-house appointment with her, and she showed up exactly as scheduled, treated our house with respect (for instance, laying mats down to protect our furniture), and charged a very reasonable fee. I've procrastinated in writing this review as the work Elaine did on my clock was completed several months ago. However, this has also provided the opportunity to ensure the repair would last and it did! I brought in a fairly simple weighted pendulum style clock that is @ 40 years old but is a family heirloom with a pleasant chime. Unfortunately, it would no longer stay running and I had it cleaned and oiled about 9 years prior for similar symptoms. Elaine told me upfront I had potentially 2 choices. The first and cheapest was to soak, deep clean and re-oil the mechanism. The second, was to completely overhaul the clockwork if the parts were worn beyond useful service. Hoping for the best I said let's try the cleaning. Once thoroughly cleaned, Elaine kept the clock for several days but could not keep it running. She showed me exactly where the various gear arbors had worn down their pivot points into oblong holes (eggshape) causing excess pressure on opposing gears which would in turn stop turning under the added load this normal wear creates. So, we moved on to option #2 and Elaine expertly rebuilt the mechanism. She replaced bushings and ensured all was properly realigned and precise. I would not say the cost was cheap, but for me it was worth getting my clock back to original function. Elaine is very knowledgeable and clearly cares about her work. I am confident anyone's clock would be in expert hands with Lentz Clock Repair. My clock runs perfectly once again. Thanks Elaine!!! read more

Elaine Lentz has fixed all six of my older and antique clocks, including an antique grandfather German clock. She was also able to repair an old German wall clock that others had worked on over the years and were unable to fix. After several years of sitting on the closet shelf, I asked Elaine to look at it. She said it had a lot of bad soldering. She gave me an estimate and in a couple of weeks she called and said the clock was ready. I went and got it and put it up on my wall and it has been running for almost a year. She charged a very reasonable amount. In fact, I have told her she should charge more for the high quality of work she does. I think Elaine is reliable, honest, charges a very decent price for her work and she guarantees her work. assume this post will be available to google users. tried to write a review at google but it appears that only gmail folks can effect reviews. assume that folks that advertise at google are protected to some degree. in reading currently posted reviews it seems as if lentz is the only people that can effect proper repairs. all reviews are glowing in their praise. let me offer a counter to that. lentz worked on my grandfather clock; said it was out of beat strike, chime freeze up. oiled greased and adjusted in amount $160. also that round holes were worn to a degree that they were currenly oval in shape. no guarantee. further, stated that if repair did not last, a whole new works w/b needed;~900. repair worked for ~30 days. waited a while (900 sticker shock) happened to be at pineville mall for a watch battery. asked and was given a name/number to call for my gf clock. a gentleman came to my home, looked at the clock, looked at my lentz invoice and told me that what was done was cursory at best. he took mechanism from case and left; cameback next day and reinstalled the clock works. informed me that he took works to his shop dis-assembled same, cleaned works and re-lubricated clock. chimes work wonderfully now, entire clock works great. asked him if he saw any indication that i would ever need entire new clockworks...he smiled at me and indicated that my clock was in perfect order and if i had cleaned again in about 15 or so years my grand kids would cherish this exceptional clock. cost was $250. liked ms lentz, she was polite and nice to me. just wanted to get this off my chest. it's a live and learn world. also asked about round holes wearing to oval shape. he thought that was very funny thx/ecw read more
