It has been a long time since our last move. All in all a very straightforward process. Everything went well but just a couple of things I need to mention. When we got our quote we were asked how many stairs we have at each location and I gave an exact number. When the movers arrived I was told that I had more than on the quote since they go by flights, not actual stairs. I was gently reminded to simply "take care of my guys" with a nice tip. When we got to our new location I was again reminded that there were more flights than on the quote. When shopping for quotes I went with Charm City because of the professionalism that was evident from their office staff handling the quote. Perhaps it's been too long since we moved and I wasn't aware of needing to tip the movers. I did, in the end, give a tip to the person who had asked. He had wanted me to give it to him so that he could distribute it to his men. With the tip it ended up being the same cost as their competition but it wasn't as advertised. We used Charm City Movers to move from Baltimore City to Columbia, Maryland on January 18, 2016. To start, I am a reputable medical professional. I usually don't have time to write reviews but my experience with this company has been less than mediocre and I would like to share my experience with the yelp community. Pros: We had a moving crew of 3 guys. The did arrive on time, were friendly and we moved into our new home. They stood by their quote and worked with me if I had miscalculated anything (e.g., I said there would be a wicker chair, but I ended up donating it so it allowed me have a couple more boxes at my current quote). Cons: I was told by Chris that every piece of furniture was going to be wrapped and placed in the truck, which did not happen. The guys did not wrap each furniture item and instead draped padded covers over each piece. The crew didn't even bring their own dolly. Luckily my husband had one from one of his previous moves for them to use. What moving company does not bring their own standard moving equipment????? After the move, we noticed that a huge chunk out of the corner of my new pottery barn coffee table was missing. We contacted Felix (the other owner) and reported it. He talked with his guys and they said they knew nothing about it. Felix said he would have to check the truck for the broken off piece. About 2 weeks later, he said that he could not find the piece in his truck and to look in the drawer of the coffee table. Low and behold, the broken piece was in the drawer. This really pissed me off because if the piece was in the coffee table then the moving crew absolutely knew it was damaged and failed to report upon on completion of the move and then lied about it when asked by Felix. Update: We have a furniture repair person currently in our home right now fixing our table provided by Charm City Movers. The table turned out beautifully. Thank you for some piece of mind. We also had our bedroom flat-screen TV scratched during this move (about a 1/2 inch white line on the flat screen visible when the TV is off and on). Felix tried to make an excuse saying that it was probably scratched before the move and that Charm City Movers has never scratched a TV in its history. Um, I think not. The move foreman did not mention any scratch before the move as he did so meticulously with other scratches on other pieces of furniture. Now we have to watch TV with a huge white light scratch staring at us in the face. Overall, I think we got a really bad crew on this move given that everyone rates this moving company 5 stars, which why I chose them in the first place. Yelpers be aware of using this company if you have nice things that you don't want to have ruined. I will not be using this moving company again. Just to note, my husband never asked for the tip money back as mentioned in Felix's reply comment. Felix offered it to us because we were unhappy but we have yet to see it. read more

Great experience! Moving stinks, but finding reputable movers is even worse. Luckily, I found Charm City on Yelp, and after a couple phone calls and email exchanges, I knew they would do the best job. What I appreciated most was their flat-rate fee (not hourly) and willingness to adjust the quote as we found more items we needed to move or dropped items off our list. DO NOT USE CHARM CITY MOVERS (ccm). Bottom line: for a company that offers a guarantee price, you WILL NOT get a guarantee from them, and you WILL receive poor customer service. I emailed ccm telling them about all of the furniture that I had and that I was looking to move on 8/13/2016. They told me that they have a minimum price of $400 and based on our conversation and my email, I had so little furniture that they could move one of my TV's (I was willing to move both to save $) plus all my furniture and I still would not be above the minimum. They said this amount of $400 was all I would pay and reassured me of this multiple times. The day of, they got to my house and saw my sectional and told me that they had not been informed I had a sectional and it would cost be an EXTRA $120. TOTALING $520. I had no choice (I am a single girl) and had to agree. When they got to my new house, they told me that my sectional would not fit in the basement. I asked if we could try from the back door and they reluctantly agreed. We tried to get it through that door and it would not fit. Since they had been there for LESS THAN 1.5 hours, I asked if we could move the couch inside through the front door to the living room and I would figure out what to do. They told me that they "didn't have time and wanted to get to the next job, then THEY LEFT MY SECTIONAL OUT OF MY DECK FOR ME TO MOVE IN MYSELF SO IT DIDN'T GET DESTROYED IN THE RAIN that night. The next business day, I called and explained how I was charged an extra $120, including a fee for a sectional that I told them I have that they chose to not put on their inventory list, and, on top of it THEY DID NOT EVEN MOVE THE PIECE THEY WERE CHARGING ME EXTRA FOR AND LEFT IT IN THE RAIN. I was told that they did have the sectional on the original email I sent but it "just must have been an oversight" and that they would get back to me the next afternoon at the latest. That was yesterday and since I did not hear from them I called them this morning and they did not pick up. Do not use, I honestly would not wish this awful experience on anyone. read more

They helped me move in October of 2020 and did a great job. At first, the per item charge for moving seemed complicated, but it turned out to be just fine. This way may be better than per hour charges; the work crew worked REALLY FAST, which I appreciated. I had everything boxed, padded and ready when they arrived so that probably helped a lot. I moved from an apartment in downtown Baltimore to the Pods facility in Middle River. This way seemed easier to me than putting the pod on the street and obtaining the parking/pod permits from the city. The Charm City guys did a great job of loading the pod at the facility staging area. All items made it to the destination in good shape. From start to finish total time (without a minor traffic incident that they had) was about an hour or slightly more--now that IS FAST. Had the rest of the day to do whatever else I wanted! read more

I moved on July 2, 2015, and received quotes from a total of three movers before booking with Charm City Movers. I like supporting local businesses, and this organization clearly takes pride in their work The ladies in the office were so helpful when giving me my estimate, gave me packing and other tips that were useful. I really like the flat fee (as opposed to the hourly rate asked by the two other movers from which I received quotes). However, be very mindful that EVERY ITEM they carry counts as a box, including single items like an ironing board. Because of this fact, the actual amount I paid was $300 over the price quoted to me due to the "extra boxes". I explained that I tried to put heavier items in small boxes to not hurt the movers, but this thoughtfulness clearly hurt me more than helped me. Also, you will not get reimbursed for broken items if you packed the box yourself, unless you take photos of the box proving damage to the outside of the box (marking it "fragile" does nothing for the handlers). Except for these above issues, the actual move was pretty smooth. On the move day, the guys were courteous and professional and despite a long walk, got the whole job done in less than 4 hours. My futon didn't fit into the bedroom, but they did take it apart and put it back together (with a little bit of complaining, but still did it). Also, they did not expect/ask for a tip (some other reviewers had mentioned this, and I was assured when booking that this would not be asked of me, and it was not) The ladies in the office tried the best they could to get reimbursement for my broken items but could not do so based on their above policy, so as I said, pack well and take photos of boxes that appear damaged prior to breaking them down. We hired this company based on the number of good reviews. I've waited to review hoping that with time and perspective, I could write a better review. We initially talked to a rep who took our inventory and gave us a quote. We expected a costly move because we have so much stuff. Because we moved out of a townhouse, the rep was convinced we our inventory was too high. I stressed that we if anything we probably had more. Despite COVID, I insisted on an in-person assessment so he could see how much stuff we had. Any box or bin that's bigger than a small Home Depot/Lowes moving box is considered a 2 man box and costs more. Likewise, very heavy small boxes are 2 man boxes. I counted all large or heavy boxes/bins as 2 man boxes, but the rep changed them to regular boxes. The day before the move, another rep contacted me to confirm the details and again asked if our box count was accurate. I told her we had at least the same number, maybe more. At no time did I underestimate the size or length of our move. I told the rep from the very first conversation that it would take 2 trips, and more than 4 movers would be best. The rep said it was definitely a 2 trip job, but said 4 movers were enough. The rep set us and our movers up for failure. When the lead mover arrived (on time and ready to go!), he said the move was bigger than they expected. You could see the movers' frustration. I told the lead that we told the rep how much stuff we had, but that the rep lowered our numbers, so if there was any misunderstanding, it was between the rep and the movers. The lead didn't say anything, and they got to work. To their credit, the movers were fast, and they took great care not to damage the rental we were moving out of. They really hauled @$$!!! We were very impressed! However, it became clear they didn't want to make 2 trips. My dad was a career truck driver, and I know they need to pack tight so things don't shift, but I suspect they crammed and stacked more than they should have because they *really* didn't want to make 2 trips. They said one guy would come back with his pickup truck to get the rest. What was left was more than would fit in a pickup, but we agreed to keep things moving. Things got sketchy when we got to the new house. Before they started unloading, the lead again complained that we had a lot of stuff, and also complained our piano (that was in the inventory) was heavy. I think it's common knowledge that pianos are heavy. That's why we paid extra to have them move it! With their truck full of our stuff sitting unloaded in front of the house, and a lot of stuff still at our old place, the lead wanted to discuss their tip. He gave us 2 options: either he'd increase the base price due to larger amount of stuff, and we'd be expected to pay a higher tip, or he'd keep the base price the same but we had to agree to a bigger tip. I thought this was unprofessional and highly suspicious. We agreed to a bigger tip because we were afraid they'd refuse to unload the truck, get the rest of our stuff, and/or do a really bad job of unloading. The movers are independent contractors, getting paid an amount per move, plus tip, with no benefits. We questioned them about these points, which were a factored into our decision, because we'd rather put money in the hands of the guys actually working, rather than the company that's not even setting up the jobs properly. However, we felt very exploited, especially since we didn't have the ability to move things ourselves. It's made question the overall professionalism and eithics of this company. The guy who brought the rest in his pickup truck didn't come until about 11pm that night. By 9pm, we were convinced they weren't going to get it, or had stolen our stuff! He said he was on another job that took 12 hours to finish. We realized they were in a rush with our move because they wanted to get in on the other more lucrative job. Even after we agreed to a hefty tip, the movers were less careful when unloading. They banged things into our walls, put down stacks too hard, and nearly dropped boxes in their rush. As we've unpacked, we've found a lot of marks and damage on our furniture. Considering this was the most expensive mover we've hired, and we got shook down for a bigger tip, the amount damage is unacceptable. The company refuses to be liable for any damage to Ikea/Ikea-like furniture, which is a pretty terrible policy. If they can't handle lightweight, collapsible furniture, why would you trust them with solid wood furniture? read more

I found the website really easy to use and professional and Felix, contacted me really quickly so I could set up an appointment. I appreciated getting a detailed quote prior to the move so that I could plan and budget accordingly. The day of the move went extremely well, I moved the day before Thanksgiving while it was snowing which had me worried but Rico and Jermain were excellent. They were friendly and upbeat but more importantly they moved my belongings well. INCREDIBLE!!!! From Felix and Chris to Quentin, Will, Danny and Kevin - AMAZING!!! The quality of customer service, the guaranteed quote and level of professionalism from Charm City Movers made this move one of the best (and I've lived all along the East Coast)!!! Quentin, Will, Danny and Kevin literally left an hour ago and I have been able to relax and just watch tv (before I begin unpacking these boxes). My "move" was unique in that I only needed help unloading a PODS unit. When I began looking for a moving company of all of the ones I contacted, Felix was the only company rep to take an inventory of my items to provide me with an accurate quote. Felix was responsive and friendly, yet still very professional. When I had to make a few changes, both Felix and Chris responded just as kindly and patiently to my questions. Chris even followed up with a confirmatory phone call to ensure that everything was good to go! With all the headache I've had with both PODS and my apartment complex as far as where the unit could be placed, I completely forgot about that when the movers arrived on time at 11am (SHARP!!!) as promised. The guys (Quentin, Will, Danny and Kevin) were just as friendly, patient and professional as Felix and Chris were. For instance, some of my items were slightly damaged by the way they were packed into the PODS unit - the damage likely resulted from the PODS interstate move from MA to MD, but Quentin did such a good job in notifying me of the damages before the items were unloaded from the unit. I used Charm City movers 2 months ago to move from my apartment in Columbia to a condo I purchased in White Marsh. My first frustration was when the movers arrived almost 45 minutes late. This was due to an accident on their route so I let it go as I understand it was out of their control. The movers were very polite and courteous, however that's where it ends. I had left a mattress protector on my mattress to protect it during the move. The movers decided to take it off and expose my brand new, clean white mattress to the elements of moving. Upon getting to my condo, one of the movers cut his hand somehow and bled all over my NEW mattress. I called the office to make them aware of the situation and they told me they would send somebody out to clean it. Well, news flash - its blood and it stains. Someone arrived with some sort of chemical and an air gun to remove the stain and of course it didn't work. The mattress needs to be REPLACED. Nobody ever followed up with me to see if the situation was resolved. Furthermore, there are filthy black hand prints all over the mattress in addition to the blood. I just purchased this mattress so it's not like I have the money to run out and spend another $1500 on a mattress. So now I'm stuck sleeping on a disgusting BLOODY mattress. I was extremely mad that they took the mattress protector OFF the mattress. Had it been left on, I would have simply just had to replace the mattress protector. Several weeks after moving in I was moving some furniture around and noticed that one of my dressers had also been damaged in the move. It was a chest of drawers and the frame that holds the drawers in was completely cracked in half. Nobody had even brought it to my attention. In October 2020, Charm City Movers helped move my belongings from Burke, VA to Ellicott City, MD. Since I had a lot of stuff, the move was a logistical and complex operation that required two of their mid-size trucks. Yet this company handled it in a very professional and efficient manner. Their fee is reasonable and fixed, unlike quite a few other companies that leave their fees floating in the air and to be determined only on the moving day. The reason is that Charm City Movers quoted their fee based on the inventory and pictures I sent them. Everybody I contacted there was very nice and caring. Even their moving personnel surprised me when they introduced themselves individually to my family members and did their jobs in a happy and joyful atmosphere. My review is a few months after the fact. I moved in July 2017. The moving day overall was tolerable, but started out with the movers coming 2 hours earlier than anticipated (luckily we were ready) and calling me frantically over and over again because they couldn't find the loading dock, even though they told me they had moved people out of the apartment in Baltimore many times. They apparently had a job after mine, so they sped down to DC and brought everything up in a jiffy (after using my bathroom before I did). However, almost a year later, I have realized that they assembled my bed frame completely incorrectly and haphazardly. I guess it makes sense they did something like that since they just wanted to get out of my apartment and go to their next job. I used Charm City Movers to move the contents of my one bedroom apartment to a larger condo unit located roughly one mile away within Baltimore. While arranging the move and on-site they were courteous, professional and efficient. My one major complaint with them is that while I was given an arrival window between 12:00 and 1:00, the movers arrived at a little after 2:00 PM. While I do believe that arriving late was unprofessional, it is fairly common within the industry and they dealt with the issue well. I had let Charm City know ahead of time that I was working with a very sensitive time window as I would lose my elevator reservation at 4:30 PM. In response to this they picked up a few additional movers to help with the loading process, and because I had everything already boxed and they knew what they beat the deadline by over an hour despite arriving more than an hour late. read more

It's very overwhelming moving a 4 person family 40 miles away but they made it very simple and were done quickly. Had some good conversations with the guys while they were working too. I hired Charm City Movers for my move in March. Moses and his team which included Donte and two others were very professional. Moses went over the inventory with me and they went right to work. They confirmed a second time what was going vs staying as they would move to each room. I was not taking a lot of the old furniture and they just wanted to make sure that everything was accurate. Donte even made a suggestion about furniture placement. I went with my plan and in the end, it turned out that I agreed with his suggestion. The guys didn't have any problems rearranging the king size bed and heavy mattress that was set up on one side of the room and changing it to the opposite side of the room. Moses also provided furniture placement recommendation for the basement sectional and I went with his idea. What I pictured in my mind was not going to work so I appreciated the suggestion. The guys all seemed to get along great with each other, which helps to have a successful team. I would definitely hire Charm City Movers again! I called Charm City on a Friday and they were able to schedule me for a move first thing Monday morning. The movers showed up right on time, and were all wonderful and friendly, and even though my move was a bit complicated since I was only moving about half the furniture in the house, they got all the right pieces and didn't need to be told anything twice. Despite the 95-degree heat (and no AC in the old place), they packed up quickly, made the 25-minute drive, and were done in under 90 minutes start to finish! Everything made it where I wanted it, and not a scratch on anything that I can see. The price in the end was exactly what they quoted and there were no last minute surprises or disagreements about what was included in the price. I used charm city movers on Sunday 8/13/17. I used their service based on yelp reviews. Pros: Scheduling the move was easy and they are very professional over the phone. The movers showed up on time. They had enough manpower to finish the job in a short time. Cons: Not cheap. The move was about 20 miles with one stop at a storage facility before the final destination. I did the same exact move with the same amount of stuff from NYC (200 miles) to Annapolis 2 years ago. For a 20 miles move, charm city movers charged 60% of the amount I paid for the 200 miles move. Very unprofessional. The movers did not stop complaining about the move and that the majority of the stuff had to go to the second floor(which was paid for). One of them used paper towels to dry their swet and left it on my kitchen counter! They did not wrap any of the furniture but they did not do any damage to it either. Make sure you know EXACTLY how much stuff you are moving. You get charged by piece and they will nickel and dime you on the spot the day of the move. When I scheduled my move I specified how many boxes I had and it was the number agreed on however I also said there will be miscellaneous stuff (things like a baby stroller, fishing rod, a plant you can carry in one hand, ironing board, etc...) they refused to carry any of this relating it is not in the inventory. I offered to carry myself and put in the truck but they said they will charge me to put in the truck!! I had to move these things in my car. Overall, I would expect this service from probably a random mover on Craigslist that would have charged me way less than what I paid. I was expecting better service for the money I paid. read more

We spent an hour of time filling out a survey of items in our house to get a quote for our recent move. Then we spent an hour on the phone going over the quote with Tammy. We got a very reasonable price and decided to use them as our movers. Then they sent someone (Felix) to our home to make sure that quote was accurate. Because we had 3 steps down to a landing before a 11 step staircase they added $400 to the price as those 3 steps constituted a second staircase. Felix told us that if we could move many of the boxes and small items ourselves she would reduce the price. My husband and I (we are not young) spent days moving everything we could to the new house. They took $44 off the price. Had I gone with a different mover I would have spent the same amount of money and not had to move a single box. This felt like a bait and switch tactic and I was very upset. The movers were also upset that this was really a 4 person job but they only had 3 movers available. So they were overworked and seemed annoyed. They also damaged some furniture (which to their credit they fixed expertly), and put a hole in the wall of the house we were leaving. Hiring Charm City Movers was an excellent decision! We booked months in advance and scheduled a move for Christmas holiday weekend. Felix was incredibly responsive via email and kept in contact leading up to our move. Had a wonderful experience with this company! I called about two months before my move and knew I only wanted a handful of my big pieces of furniture moved. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and helpful and would call back right away when I left a message. They were flexible the entire time saying if I needed to change things up until the move, just to let them know. One thing I LOVED was that they gave me a flat rate estimate. Much less than hourly estimates I got for the same furniture from other companies. Moving day came and they sent three men and a truck and they were fantastic! Friendly, courteous, and efficient. Went out of their way to make sure everything went smoothly. Can't say enough good things about Charm City Movers and will definitely be calling them again for my next move! Update 8/20/18: Charm City Movers moved me for the second time just last week and once again, a phenomenal experience! I can't say enough good things about them. Highly recommend! Charm City Movers recently moved us from Towson to Annapolis. Felix and Christopher were super to deal with, accurate bid, made adjustments as we added some items and removed others from the initial estimate. The pricing was very fair and so well worth it! The moving team showed up on time, respectful with wearing their PPE and pleasant to work with. Many thanks to Moses, Butch, Tyler and Javon for their great work! They were done in half the time unloading at our new apartment, a big plus with the management company reducing the time the elevator had to be locked off. do not use them to move pianos. They spent 3 hours trying to get my upright piano upstairs out of basement. I even had someone from Charm City movers come beforehand to see how difficult the job would be and they took the job. The steps were messed up, and part of the side of the piano was damaged. They could not get the piano out and then had to take it back down the steps to basement. They said they could come back if I got rid of this little wall in front of steps. The piano did get down there many years ago with the same wall there. They didn't charge me though, but asked to give the movers 50 each, which I did. Another company I cold called (who declined to do the move)said to call Congressional Piano movers. In 30 minutes they had the piano up and in their truck. This company came highly recommended and mostly lived up to their advertising. They moved me out of and in to a medium sized 1 bedroom apartment in less than 2 hours. The man in charge was rough around the edges but knew what he was doing and kept the three other guys with him on task. The rules around moving in my building are obnoxious but the movers actually followed them. My only problem was that the estimate I was given apparently didn't take into account an extra outside flight of steps. I have an email that confirms I told the company about the stairs, but it seems they never incorporated it into the quote. The movers wanted to increase the price by 15% for a single flight of stairs. I was firm about it and the movers didn't charge me extra, but they had already unloaded the truck so they didn't have much leverage. I actually think the whole thing was an honest mistake, but an extra 15% on an expensive move is a lot of money. So quadruple check the number of stairs involved, steps walked, boxes, etc. They're a decent company but they're serious in terms of how they calculate prices and I'm not sure they'd have given a pass if the stuff was still in the truck. read more
