The people on the phone are really nice and give a fair quote, but the actual movers are scam artists. They complained THE ENTIRE TIME they were moving furniture. I know toddlers who whine less. Also they made strange comments and gave unsolicited advice about the items (i.e. "you should get a flat screen TV instead of this curved one" or "you should hang this on the wall"). When it came time to write the check, the foreman laid on the guilt pretty heavy to get a bigger tip. Save yourself the headache and hire more professional people. read more

Just finished moving from my longtime apartment in Essex, MD to West Baltimore. The past few weeks, I've felt really overwhelmed with all the stuff I've accumulated throughout the years. Called Charm City based on a Yelp search, and saw their great reviews. Spoke with Felix in the office who was very personable and put my fears at ease. Also, spoke with Chris the day before the move to update some items that I wanted moved, and he shared what to expect on moving day. Today was moving day! Chris arrived early to pack up my books, pics, CDs and movies. He's awesome! He got a kick out of my Guy CD, too. Hehe. AJ, Mark and Cooley arrived shortly after. This was my our first time using movers that we researched and selected ourselves. It can be a daunting process as there are many companies with varying quotes; all of which seem to be expensive. The great part about Charm City Movers was that they quoted you based on your inventory and as long as you moved what you said you would be moving, the quote was exactly what you paid. Chris and Felix there were great to work with and very helpful with adjusting our quote numerous times and providing various scenarios so we could determine what would best fit our budget. Finally it was moving day. We chose 8 am so we could get it out the way fast. We were shocked as, not only were the movers on time, but they were actually 10 minutes early. There were four of them (Moses, Drew, James, and Darryl) and they were all very polite and helpful. They came in and went right to work. They moved quickly and efficiently and had the truck loaded in about 20-25 minutes. We didn't have a lot (we had a small 3 bedroom town home) but we had some big heavy items that we were concerned about and they moved them with no problems at all! We were truly amazed. They packed the truck, drove to our new home (which was about 10 minutes away) and quickly unloaded. They were done by 9:15 am. They got in and they got out, without a dent on any of our items or walls. If we move again (which honestly I hope we don't bc it's so stressful) we would use Charm City Movers in a heartbeat. It was worth every penny. Movers aren't cheap in general, but they out beat every quote that we had and they were the only company that provided a binding quote. Charm City moved my heavy items of furniture locally this morning. Really heavy - large packed file cabinets, sleeper sofa, wooden buffets; some went downstairs to the basement, others went upstairs to attic rooms. Some pieces had to be taken apart and reassembled. ROCK SOLID! I used Charm City Movers for the first time in 2005, when my wife and I bought our first home in Pa. We first selected Charm City Movers for price only. However, as I got to know Felix, her service really won me over. It's a pretty big deal being 25 years old, a newlywed with a new born child coupled, and buying a home in another state. To say the least, Felix made my wife and I feel at ease, and the move was the least of our worries. We were originally moving from a row-home in Baltimore to a single family home in PA, and the movers went above and beyond. They helped my uncle remove a window, so we could get a headboard out of a window that wouldn't fit down our stairs. Just to shorten the story, we used Charm City Movers again in 2011, when we moved back to Towson, Md. Several years later, Charm City Movers came through in the clutch again. My wife and I were in the process of buying a new home, while my being in the midst of opening my own business. With opening my new business being in play, cost is everything. So my wife and priced out five companies, Charm City being one of the five. First, their price was cheaper than every quoted that we received. The way they determine the price for our inventory was much simpler, than everyone I spoke to. I underestimated this part of the process because every other company that I got a bid from, made pricing the inventory, much more complex, and stressful. Felix asked what we pieces of furniture we had room by room, and that was it. No pricing manager had to meet with me for 30 minutes, and I didn't have to measure my furniture and estimate weight for a price. Now to the meat and potatoes of this conversation. During the infamous heat-wave of 2016, I had a move which consisted of pretty heavy and bulky furniture from a two story home in Towson, going to another two story home in Lutherville-Timonium. Charm City moved multiple flat TV's, beds, wood dressers, sofa's, a lawnmower, a generator, a grill, a universal weight set, and even fine art. I told Felix, that I am a little older now with more expensive items than when I was 25, and I just want to make sure they are protected. Felix assured me my items would be alright. All of my TV's and picture were covered properly, and as expected, there were no damages. I had no scratches in my old home from the move, and very minimal scratches in my new home. The two scratches on walls in my new home, were only because of the architectural structure of my home. I can definitely live with that, and I can't blame them for the way my home was built. Did I say this move was during the heatwave with 100 degree temperatures? Towards the end of my move, it started to Thunderstorm and rain, and the movers refused to move any of my items until the rain completed stopped, to assure all of my furniture was protected, and to prevent any damage. They waited a hour for the rain to subdue, and even with the drizzle, they made extra trips to make sure everything was properly covered and protected. I think what impressed me the most, was that the attitude of the moving team was as if they were Baltimore Ravens players being paid to play a boys game for a Kings ransom. One of the guys James, I asked why are you so excited to move all this furniture in 100 degree weather. He simply said to me; "This is what we do". I had never seen anyone so motivated to move heavy furniture in such hot temperatures. I tipped every mover, without hesitation. The best money I could have spent! In closing, I mentioned my business venture earlier on in my post. Charm City moved my office furniture from a liquidator I purchased office furniture from four days after my residential move. Same service, just a different day! This day I think the temperature was only 95 degrees, but that's still hot. I had the same team with the exception of one individual. They helped me put my desk together, unwrap packages, and assisted me in throwing all the boxes away after everything was unwrapped. Service is KING at Charm City Movers. Especially, when we live in a world where most people hate their job, and do just enough to say they did their job. It just doesn't get better than this. I hope I never had to move again, because packing and unpacking isn't fun. If I do decide to move again, there is no doubt who I will be calling. Charm City Movers!!! I. hate. moving. So when I got a new job in Baltimore, I was excited about pretty much everything, except for the fact that I'd have to move. But then I found Charm City Movers on Yelp, and all of that stress melted away. The process of getting a quote and scheduling the move took a few emails and phone calls (because I requested the quote before I had an actual count of furniture/boxes, and because a few details changed), and each person I had contact with was absolutely fantastic to work with. I moved right before Christmas, which is apparently a pretty busy time for moving (who knew?!), and even more so for packing -- but Charm City Movers fit me into their schedule on exactly the days I needed. Two days before the move, Felix came to pack all of my belongings, and let me just say that if the thought of packing makes you want to cry, you NEED to get someone like Felix. She showed up with boxes and packing tape, I left to run errands and get some work done, and when I came back, all of my stuff was boxed up, and I maybe shed a tear of joy. I'm still in the process of unpacking, but I've done most of it, and I have not found a single damaged or poorly-packed item. Honestly, in the year leading up to my move, I stressed about packing almost daily, and Felix eliminated all of that in just a few hours. On the day of the move, we had scheduled for the movers to arrive at 9 a.m., but they called around 8 a.m. to say that they had gotten a bad rental truck and were returning it and would then be on their way. Not their fault, and I appreciated the good communication. They arrived around 9:30 a.m. (I lived about an hour and 15 minutes from Baltimore) and got to work right away. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Chris, Moses, and Rico had my entire apartment packed carefully in the truck in 30 minutes. This is an added benefit of having an excellent packer who knows how to organize the boxes for the mover! Once we got to Baltimore, they quickly moved everything into the house. And then we got to the box spring. I had a queen-sized box spring that was just not going to fit up the narrow, Baltimore-rowhome stairwell. They put in a valiant effort, even taking out my bedroom window and trying to move it in that way, but to no avail. Luckily, the stars aligned and Overstock Outlet down the street had a split queen box spring in stock, so for a few extra bucks, they drove the truck down to the store with me as I purchased the box spring, and then they loaded it into the truck and hauled the box spring pieces up the stairs. When we got back, my parents were unloading a few things from their car to take into the house, including an incredibly heavy box containing a to-be-assembled kitchen cart with granite countertop. They were struggling with it, so Chris went over, asked if he could help, threw it on his own back, and carried it in himself! I could go on about what a great experience I had with Charm City Movers, but just take my word (and the words of plenty of others on Yelp) for it: if you are in Baltimore and need to move, hire Charm City Movers. They charge based on how much they're moving, not how long the move takes, so they are uber-efficient and skilled at this work. It saved me a ton of time and stress at an already-stressful time of year, and I'm eternally grateful! read more

PROS - Communication is great prior to the move - These guys are on time. They bring 4 people, instead of 3, to get the job done quickly. - The moving guys were very friendly CONS - They dropped a lot of boxes. I didn't mind too much, cause nothing in the boxes broke. - They didn't wrap major items, such as the flat screen TV, legs of furniture, etc. I didn't personally care, as long as everything arrived ok. One of the sofa legs broke. Luckily, even though the leg is not fixed to the sofa anymore, the sofa can still rest on it, and the sofa can still be used. - Depending on your situation, they charge per item moved. Moving a sleeping bag, for example costs as much as a heavy box. This forced me to try to be careful in terms of my packing, which can cost a lot of time. It also makes you reconsider what you want them to move, and what you should move yourself, which is another time cost. - The supervisor is a spaz. He complained the whole trip. And I almost felt guilty for having them move my stuff. But... then I thought, this is there job. Suck it up. SUMMARY If you have the time to sort out exactly what and how to pack things, this team is quite efficient. If you have expensive and fragile items, these guys have to be reminded of those things. If you just want a moving company to just do their job, move everything, and a company that doesn't complain, go elsewhere. These guys claim that moving per hour costs more. But for some reason, it was the same price for me to move from Philly to Baltimore, (tip included). However, I can't speak of comparisons of other local baltimore moving companies. read more

I used charm city movers for an "in house" move last weekend - I moved from my apartment down one set of stairs to the apartment below mine. When I spoke with Felix over the phone she was extremely personable, and was able to arrange a sort of off the books deal where I could just pay the movers cash directly and it would be like a bonus for them - since the move was very easy and required no truck, loading, unloading, etc. She asked what kind of stuff I needed to have moved - I noted some larger pieces of furniture that I couldn't handle myself. I did not realize that it was truly a pay by piece service - She made it seem like I could work it out with the movers when they got there, and pay in cash + tip. The original quote was $200 for 6 items down one set of stairs. I paid $400 a few months ago for a cross town move including loading and unloading with a lot more furniture, so I wasn't thrilled about the price for moving far fewer items within the same building, but my experience with Felix over the phone was so great that I went ahead and booked it, and the experience with my last moving crew from another local company was a nightmare. My parents generously offered to bring me some of their old furniture since I was moving into a larger apartment, and drove a UHAUL 3 hours to bring me a couch, dining table, dresser and 2 small bookcases. I realize now that I should have called Felix back and notified her of the additional items that I would need help with, but I was truly under the impression that since this was a cash job and was an easy move, I thought that $200 was fair to help move stuff downstairs and carry in some pieces from the uhaul right outside the door (same floor) inside. The moving crew then started to raise the issue that all of the pieces weren't on the contract, and began assigning arbitrary prices for additional pieces. I needed help moving some large dressers from one room into the room right next to it, and they said that would be an additional cost as well. At this point I got really stressed out, I was telling them not to carry things that I thought I could handle myself with some friends (rugs, smaller tables, etc.) because I was worried that each thing they picked up was adding onto the price. In the end we negotiated a price of $300 for a job that was complete in about an hour, in the same building. This was just $100 less than my previous move that was a much larger job, but I guess I decided to go with a different company to ensure quality and a stress free experience, accepting a price increase. Overall, I felt mislead - or that there was a lack of communication between the moving coordinator and the movers. I would have certainly given a list of all of the items that I needed to move had I known that it was truly a pay by piece experience, rather than the side job that it was described as during our conversations. I am disappointed at how stressful the situation was - the movers continuing to carry things down that I didn't need help with if they were going to charge for each item - and I just kept thinking of the costs adding up, especially since I am a student, and I budgeted for $200 (because I felt that was reasonable for the amount of work required for my move). I thought we had discussed having two men come out, which would have been $100 each and two people would certainly have been adequate for my items (all of the stuff in the uhaul was loaded by my dad and brother from my parents home). I agreed to $300 after a bit of haggling, and frankly it was uncomfortable to make a decision when the person in charge just said "how much do you think is fair" and then refused my first offer of $260. I guess I should have gotten Felix on the phone as soon as the movers arrived to sort things out - and I should just stay put and not move again to avoid these types of situations. read more

We didn't have a very good experience with charm city movers. They were nice to talk to on the phone before the move, but when i called them with problems during the move they had no interest in fixing anything. The good side (two biggies): --Price was good (!) --They didn't break anything (!) The bad side: --They hit the walls a fair amount --They said they would have 4 guys, but they only had 3. One of the 3 guys was a good mover, and the other 2 guys were clearly new to moving furniture. --We paid for them to move our unpacked hanging clothes, but the guys didn't bring anything to move our hanging clothes. The one thing to keep in mind with charm city movers is that they subcontract out their work--at least they did for us. So the guys that moved our stuff didn't work for charm city movers, they just got paid a flat fee. So when I called charm city about them not having anything to move our hanging clothes, they said take it up with the guys moving your stuff. So, naturally the problem never got addressed. They were kind of rude about it too. read more

We moved a two bedroom apartment from a 14-story building to a storage unit. From jump, Charm City Movers impressed me. They were responsive when I called, every time. They gave me a quote over the phone and acknowledged that it was subject to change depending on how the packing went. As it happens, we put more things (like lamps, lampshades, and small end tables) in U-Haul boxes. That dramatically changed the quote, and I was able to call Charm City the day before the move and give them the revised furniture and box count. Putting those more things in boxes lowered the price by 25%. This was not a negotiation; it was just the way they do business and a result of the new box count and taking the lamps and end tables (which were now in boxes) otherwise off the list. On the day of the more, the crew was on time, masked, careful, friendly, and efficient and got it all done in under 3 hours. I am super impressed. Highly recommend. read more

I used Charm City Movers recently to move within Baltimore. Let me first say that the staff including the owners and agents are extremely friendly and polite. The movers were hard working, running up and down hallways and very accommodating. I took 2 stars off because the business model really threw me off: It is my fault for not doing better research but my one piece of advice would be to really take your time when preparing your quote. When they ask how many boxes they mean ANY movable item - 5lb and 40lb boxes count the same. Bags of clothing, bedding, pillows, etc - each item should count as a box. They will not distinguish tables, shelves, chair by size or weight - they all count the same. My initial quote was $470, my final revised quote was $700. (The move took 2.5hrs) Again, very professional staff just be careful when preparing your quote. read more

My move was horrible in some aspects. Communication prior to my move was great, just like other yelpers. However, on the day of my move there was an event downtown which delayed my moved greatly. I was scheduled to move at 12pm and the movers didn't show up until 6pm. What a headache! And although out of their control I had to call twice to find out what was causing the delay. Great customer service would have been to inform me! When they did show up they moved me out and in very quickly. That part I liked and appreciated. Nothing was broken or thrown. However, there is a crack in my bedframe. What bothers me the most is how unprofessional they were with their flirtatious and prejudice comments. It made me very uncomfortable and it was unwarranted. I worked with Charm City to move a heavy piece of furniture up a flight of stairs in my home. Not a typical project, but Chris from Charm City was willing to work with me on schedule and price. I did not have to pay for hours of base moving fees and supplies, which was not the case with the half dozen other companies with which I inquired. I live about a 40 minute drive away from the Charm City headquarters, so Chris did factor this into the cost, but it was still very affordable. Chris and his team came by on time and carefully moved the heavy piece of furniture up the stairs and around and a narrow corner in under five minutes. The ease of this exchange was worth every penny. If I need to perform a larger, more traditional move in the future I will definitely plan to use Charm City Movers. read more

Moving is a nightmare and can make the most sane person feel crazy but they make every step of the process as painless as can be. I called several times in the days leading up to the move and all 3 in the office new everything about my account and took care of me. They moved me from Baltimore to Philadelphia. These guys are troopers! Rain, traffic, and the Philadelphia Parking Authority couldn't stop them from being incredibly efficient and accommodating. My only complaint is not having a thorough understanding from the office of what qualifies as a "box" to move. I had some extra duffle bags that actually counted. In the end, if the quote is not completely correct it affects how these guys are paid, which isn't fair to them if it is off. Other then that they were very understanding and got the job done! I used them for my recent move from Annapolis to Baltimore. The movers arrived promptly, but two of the four men in the crew had called in to work that day, so the owner and one other worker came out. It took roughly twice as long, but the guys did a great job and were helpful, friendly, and polite. No problems with damage, and the people in the office were great at staying in touch prior to the move. It was a little more expensive than I had hoped- about $850 for a one bedroom apartment with taking apart and reassembling the table and bed frame, along with 8" of clothes, but they were trustworthy so I felt it was worth it. read more

Beware- they will ruin your furniture and then blame you for it! Where should I start? Our brand new, $2000 fridge was dented by CCM when the brought our couch in through the back door; many of our large pieces of furniture (dressers, bed frame, wooden chests, coffee tables) were dinged in numerous spots; picture frames were broken; the top of a bookshelf was ripped right off; a canvas photo was dented; a box of vases purchased by my husband in Afghanistan were destroyed; and they chipped off a piece of our back door while moving furniture in. The worst part about it is they refused to admit that most of this was their fault- in particular the dent in our brand new fridge which we had not even used. I am very disappointed with their services and hope that no one ever experiences the type of move that we did! read more

I used Charm City Movers to move at the end of February. Felix provided excellent customer service from the start. The quote was accurate, and she even told me that I could move some of the items myself to save money. She gave me some tips for the items I would be moving myself (i.e., wrap large framed pictures in comforters). I received a call the day before the move to confirm everything. The guys showed up on time on Monday morning. They were extremely careful when moving my items. The wrapped everything in blankets and loaded the truck so that nothing would slide around and get damaged. The guys never complained. They were incredibly friendly and worked so quickly! These guys are great -- I was scheduled on a Monday afternoon but snow and freezing rain prevented the guys from arriving. They did everything they could to show up that day. I received phone calls throughout the day from Tammy updating me on the status of the crew and when she called the last time to say they weren't going to make it, she gave me $50 off (pretty good for a small move). The crew showed up right at 8 am the following day in the pouring rain and moved us in less than 2 hours. They were extremely careful and courteous, not only to me, but to my new neighbors on my very narrow one-way street that needed to get around the truck. Pricing was reasonable -- they do it by the item and staircase instead of by the hour. Keep turns on stairs in mind though, they count twice. Just moved from two apartments to a house. I read Yelp reviews before selecting this company and am happy to say that the reviews are reliable. Chris in the office handled the date, etc. and was most personable and patient getting everything set up as well as all of my questions. Another Chris arrived ON TIME with a two person team. They wasted no time getting to work and took multiple boxes at a time. I had water and snacks for them as it was a hot day, but they hardly took a break. We were out in no time. Had complete disrespect for my furniture. Scrapped and dinged walls moving me out and into my new apartment. Leather couch ended up having rips and scrapes, chrome chair is completely banged up. And to top it off they broke my bed frame and didn't wrap up my mattress before DRAGGING IT DOWN THE DIRTY STAIRS. Wish I had moved myself and saved myself a nightmare of ruined furniture. read more

The person who answers the phone is lovely, responds fast , and works with you, but unfortunately the move was another story. I confirmed the time of arrival the day before between 12-2pm, On the day of moving, which was from storage unit to my apartment ( in a different city ) the movers called me 9:50am , saying they were nearby. I was at least an hour away. I grabbed an earlier and more expensive train to try meet them. When I went to call them back, they did not answer their calls or respond to text message, I had to call the general office, to finally get a response from movers. This would have been okay , but when I finally met them at the storage unit, one of the movers, started to apologize then the guy in charge said multiple times to the other mover, "what are you apologizing for and why did he say sorry more than once" . Arrogant Now I'm officially pissed off. I had a cover for one of the few pieces of furniture , and despite me requesting multiple times to cover it , they just had it laying on the furniture , not taped , not tied, moving the item into and out of the truck. I gave a tip, but only one of the gentleman was actually professional. I would not use them again read more

They are by far the best moving company in baltimore. Very professional, very polite, very efficient, and very affordable. Not only did they give me a quote less than every other company i called, the person i spoke to, felix, was kind, courteious and knowledgeable. he answer all my questions and handled all my concerns. the movers showed up right on time and quickly, yet carefully loaded the truck. They made moving 250+ pound dresser look easy. They didn't damage anything, something I can say i have ever experienced during a move. I would highly recommend using these guys, if you call them, you don't have to even bother calling anyone else. One thing to note, they don't always answer the phone right away but they call u back right away when you leave a message, I'm talking within minutes. read more

I can't say enough about how great these guys were. We moved on two terribly rainy days - we thought it was bad the day they packed our stuff onto the truck, but the next day as they unloaded it into our new home, it was 10x worse. They were so efficient, never once complained about the conditions, and we're very understanding as I hesitated on several items and couldn't decide where to put them. It's pricey, but it was worth the cost to not do it ourselves and get such great service. After the fact, I noticed one piece of furniture was slightly damaged so I have 4 stars instead of 5. read more

I used Charm City a few years ago, and wanted to finally leave a review. Positive: Felix is great to work with, she is quick to respond and works to get accurate info The men were on time and hustled One of the guys was able to take off the top of a bookcase to make it fight around a tight corner, and he was super nice about it. Negative: They knicked a piece of mine - they really didn't wrap anything. One of the fellows was a complainer, and made it very obvious how much he didn't like negotiating some of the tougher corners. If you don't carefully plan, you will be moving your own stuff, because they charge by the piece, not the hour. The second time I moved, about a year later, I went with a company that charged by the hour. They disassembled and packed everything - even my dining room table (a small 4-top). My futon was disassembled, wrapped, bunk beds apart, etc. I didn't have to worry about how many pieces I had. It took them longer, and did cost more, but after having that experience, it is worth it in my opinion to hire someone by the hour IF you are moving an entire home. If you are moving a few pieces, I highly recommend Charm City. I just found as a single mom, Charm City didn't work for me moving a home's worth of things. I needed to be able to add boxes or chairs and such and know that my things will be disassembled and reassembled at no extra charge. read more
