I've been to Citadel Coins a few times to buy 1 oz silver bars. At the time that I'm writing this…read morereview, they price their silver bars at global spot price of silver bullion + $5.00 CAD. I like that transparency on the price and feel like I'm being treated fairly. I bought my silver to put in a safe deposit box as an investment rather than for collecting. If you're interested in silver coins, they have a nice selection of those as well. The coins have a markup on the price since they are both pure silver and also collectibles, so the cost will vary depending on what sort of coins you're interested in. Citadel also sells gold, but that's too rich for my blood! :) They have a wall display of bank notes, and they also sell older coins as you might guess from the name of the business. Citadel also buys gold and silver. I haven't sold anything to them (I'm not looking to sell anything in the near future), so I can't comment on that part of their business. While I've been in the store, I've seen other customer bring in things like old silver dining sets and old gold watches. I have no idea how much they offer for stuff like that, but it might be worth stopping in if you think you have some scrap precious metal that's worth money. Don't let my 4 star rating make you nervous. I'm only holding back the 5th star because, as I said above, I have no experience with the 'I sell to them' part of this business. As a buyer, I have no complaints whatsoever and would recommend Citadel Coins if you're in the market for silver as an investment, or silver coins as collectibles.

Most coin stores are impatient when it comes to customers taking their time browsing products but Citadel Coins lets them stay hours even if they only end up spending a couple dollars. The owner does a lot for coin collectors in Nova Scotia, don't think a coin show would happen in Halifax without Citadel Coins. The store is invaluable to Metro.

Citadel Coins - They call these "1 oz bars", but it's more of a wafer. I put a AA battery next to it so you get a sense of the size. Reflective too! :D

I had approached several other Halifax companies over the last few years, all of whom had discouraged me, suggesting that the watch would never keep time properly, it would have to send it to Montreal for cleaning, and probably wasn't worth the cost or effort. The owner of VIna's eyes brightened when he saw the watch and indicated that he could certainly do the required watch. It was ready on precisely the day he promised and it looks and works perfectly, keeping excellent time. As a result of the success with this watch, I asked about another, quite fine watch, that had lost its watch crystal and, as a result, the hands which were unusually small. I had tried to have this favourite watch repaired various places in the city; one had contacted the company which had made the watch, and they reportedly responded that they no longer had parts for this watch. A company I contacted in Montreal gave a similar response. After several years, I'd given up trying to have the watch repaired, although I had resisted the suggestion from one local company that I just leave it with them for parts. Given the quality of the service Vina's had provided for the Bulova, I left the watch with them to see whether they might be able to do something to fix it. When I returned, the watch was completely restored. The owner had found among his extensive collection of parts both the crystal and the hands; he showed me the original paper work for their purchase dated in the 1980s! This is a truly remarkable shop. An extraordinarily knowledgeable craftsman with a deep love for all things related to watches and clocks. The work was done perfectly and was ready on precisely the day promised. The costs were considerable, but perfectly reasonable for what was done. I have since recommended VIna's to someone who wanted to have a vintage Rolex from the 1940s restored. They too were delighted with the quality of the work and the service. If you have a watch of some value on which you would like work to be done, this is certainly the place to go in Nova Scotia.

However, I don't think one can sustain a shop on a relatively small assortment of timepiece holders. I spoke with the man behind the counter to ask about watch battery pricing. Only $5 and he can do it in a few minutes while you wait - great news! I perused a little further, discovering a wall with larger clocks as well as an assortment of trophies... The space is bright and dated, with inoffensive colors and a very bland overall atmosphere. Plus side: there are a bunch of lovely orchids blooming in the window! Vina's apparently buys scrap gold and jewellery materials, as well as sells some watches and pocket clocks. A strange little store. But thankfully, not I know where to go if I need a watch strap. Phew.
