The vibe of the salon is super welcoming and the staff is very friendly. This was my first time trying out this salon and I asked for a haircut with lots of face framing layers (this is the same haircut i normally get). Personally i would not recommend coming here if u want layers. I'm not sure if the stylist i got just wasnt comfortable doing layers but they came out very choppy. It's definitely not the worst haircut ever it's just not great so i wouldn't go back to the same lady. The blow out she gave me was also not very good, it left my hair tangled and i had some pieces that were just sticking out weird after. Overall it's a nice salon and well priced ($48 for women's wash and cut) but i would not recommend if you want a layered haircut or a blow out. read more

Genuinely scarred from getting my hair done ever again after my experience here. Throughout the 8 hours I spent there my hair got absolutely fried, turned purple, then turned copper. It got to a point where I started to cry because I was terrified for my hair health and couldn't even look in the mirror. THANKFULLY Charmaine came to through and literally saved my hair! She is amazing and so nice!! I also find it absolutely crazy that everyone expressed how sorry they were about my experience EXCEPT for Lili, who was the cause of this mess. My daughter was in town for the military ball and we had booked an appt with Becca online. Upon our arrival at the salon we found out that there had been some issue in which our appt and another girl's appt were combined into one. The staff worked quickly to find a solution even though it was clear everyone was very busy. My daughter was taken back in minutes and one person started prepping her until a different stylist, Candice, took over and finished. I would recommend any of the amazing stylists (Melinda!!), but have been a very happy client of Charmaine's for many years. I've been coming to CharMarie since the salon first opened and have always had an amazing experience. Amy, you are fantastic! I visited today on a whim to get a routine hair cut and I haven't very naturally curly hair so I was a bit nervous to go just because naturally curly hair can be really hard to cut and I have not had good experiences with hair cuts in the past. However, Amy was amazing!! She took the time to listen to what I want, made suggestions based on what would look best for my hair the way I normally wear it, and explained every step of what she was doing to my hair. She also has a great personality and sense of humor. My visit today makes me want to come back and get color done with her just to see the full extent of what she can do! read more

I don't know what it was about this place, but the experience was just ok for me. I was in and out of the salon in about 30 minutes and didn't feel that the quality of my cut (just a basic trim) was worth the $44 spent. It seems like this salon is for the locals, everyone seemed to know each other. My stylist Candice only asked me questions about the style I wanted. I don't need my stylist to talk to me the whole time but it was awkward to me and I felt like just another person. Needles to say, I was very skeptical and nervous to try yet another new hair salon. I read about a million reviews on CharMarie and finally booked a haircut and partial balayage with Candice. I left there feeling better than I did coming in and my hair looked awesome! Candice did an amazing job at listening to what I wanted, suggesting different options and helping me achieve the look I wanted. I was silently judging her and the other stylist on their performance and work ethic as any true skeptic would; and I have to say, they all blew me away. From start to finish, CharMarie Salon was a win experience for me. I had been getting my hair cut by the same lady back in my hometown for my entire life (I think my mom has been going to her for 25 years or something crazy). Even throughout my schooling at Virginia Tech, I would wait until I visited home to get my hair cut by her. Well now that I am a permanent resident of Blacksburg, I figured I should find a place here I can go to. I decided to try out CharMarie Salon as it is really close to where I live and has positive reviews. Their online booking is super easy and straight forward so I decided to make an appointment. When I arrived, I noticed the salon was very cute and clean. The lady at the desk was nice and I think I waited maximum 5 minutes for my stylist. My hair stylist, Allie Perkins was absolutely the sweetest. As I had never been here before, I did not know who to make an appointment with so I went with the first one that popped up on the booking list. Since I had been going to the same lady for my whole life and knew her pretty well, I did not know what to expect from a new hair stylist, but she made me feel so welcome and at home. She was really easy to talk to in general and listened to how I wanted my hair cut and made suggestions as well based on the type of hair I have. If I wanted an area cut shorter or a certain way, she was very happy to do it for me and did not make me feel like I was being picky or annoying (which from reading a ton of salon reviews of a bunch of different places, can happen). I wanted to go from my longer than shoulder length hair to a pixie cut, so this was a huge change for me, and Allie made it so relaxing and was super encouraging. I love my new super short hair and I will be going back to Allie when I need a touch up or trim. After reading more about all the stylists at CharMarie after the fact, I was surprised to read that Allie was more in to styling and special occasion hair. She did such a tremendous job cutting my hair, I wouldn't have guessed! I almost wish I had my long hair back just to see what she could do with it! Haha. My stylist at Charmarie Salon is Charmaine, and she is an incredible, amazingly talented stylist. She is always professional, takes the time to discuss the hair cut/style/color that you want and will always let you know if what you are requesting is possible (which it usually is because she knows hair trends, the latest cutting techniques, etc., which is evidenced by her work, and other stylist's work, on the salon Facebook and Instagram accounts). I have been going to her since before she put in the hard work to open her own salon and am so proud of the final product. The salon is always clean, her staff are friendly and inviting, and it feels like you are going to a spa to treat yourself every time you walk in.
