I have been a client of this woman owned, small business for over 5 years and love this salon! Today I bought a picture of the style I wanted and she duplicated it wonderfully! Other hair services such as highlights, lowlights, and hair masks have been terrific. She listens and styles the way I want. Other spa services were also great. Honesty is always the best policy. I originally bought a groupon for this place back in April but due to schedule conflicts, I wasn't able to actually redeem it. I tried to redeem it in August but when I called, the individual I spoke to mentioned that they were having plumbing issues and that they were out of commission for a few weeks. I happened to go through my groupons and noticed it was expiring soon so I called to schedule an appointment. I spoke to Theresa who told me she had availability on Monday at one- worked perfectly for me as I had Columbus Day off from work. Although it was a drive away, this salon is nestled away in a quiet area in Elmwood park. It may be a little difficult to find considering it is not a business area but more of a residential area. However, the business itself is easy to spot as it has those traditional barber spinning cones in the front of it. There is street parking available- no meters so that means free parking! Can you say winning? Tell me the last time you went to a salon that had free parking unless it was located in a plaza! Anyways, parked my park and went inside. Theresa, the business owner, said that she recently moved into this location back in April from her North Ave. location and ever since, she's been having issues with the plumbing. She was very upfront and honest with me, informing me that she wasn't able to give me a pedicure with the actual massaging chair and built in spa water because the plumbing was being revamped but that she had an alternate solution. I totally understand and respected her courage to be honest with me. I said no problem. Keep in mind, her solution was great but time consuming. She had one of those portable spa tubs. The water wasn't hot- hot, it was rather warm but it did the job of softening up my very hard soles. My feet were in really bad condition after a three week long trip to Morocco and in dire need of a pedicure. She really took her time in pampering my toes, cut them, cleaned them, filed them away and then scraped the bottom of my heel. I would have liked for her to use the safety slide callus shaver and rasp but she used this brush instead. Not that the brush didn't go into overtime cleaning up my heel but I think it would have been more effective if the shaver was used. Theresa then proceeded to paint my toenails. I loved, loved, loved the color of my toes and I loved the foot massage she gave me afterwards. She put in all types of oils and scrubs on my feet- I loved the pampering that was offered! But let me just tell you, that was probably the best pedicure I have ever gotten. My toenails look so amazing that I am such an eager beaver to show them off- even though tomorrow it's supposed to rain! Love the color. As for my pedicure, I wasn't so crazy about the nail color as much as I am about my toenails but I think that's more because I wish my nails were longer. I had no chip done to my nails and it's already starting to chip a little bit (keep in mind that I made three cakes in the last two days and hand washed dishes so it's not the no chips fault but rather my fault). I liked Theresa- she was very amiable and kind. Time flew by as we engaged in conversation. I will say, she is a professional and dedicated to providing quality service so if you want a half- assed, quick job- don't come here. Do not go here for a manicure. Please see the text conversations between myself and Stephanie (one of the nail techs there). I went in on 4/19/19 for a no chip mani.. she offered a special polish and color she had just bought and I agreed because it was so pretty. Well, the "no chip" mani peeled off within one day! Yes, one day! I had to go back and ask for a re-do, which they agreed to re-do the nails that were extremely chipped ONLY instead of just redoing it. I'd also like to add that the first day I went, the nail tech had her little son there and everything was fine until he came to where I was sitting and started interrupting his mom and talking to me, he even dropped his Nintendo DS devices into the water bowl my feet were soaking in!!! What in the world!? I stayed calm and polite but in my mind I was like "seriously!?" Who lets their employees bring in their kids and be so disruptive making their customer experience a terrible one!? It was all just so awful! I like the salon, nice place. Cozy and intimate. The owner knows how to do nails and well, but her staff does not. Im 99% sure the lady that did my pedicure had little to no training on how to properly do nails. She didn't ask me if I wanted my nails cut or filed and what shape I wanted, and cut a huge chunk out of the side of my nail without me asking and it hurt. She also buffed my big toe nails so hard that the cuticles have scabs on them. My husband could have done a better job painting also. There is paint all over my toes and there's about 15 coats of paint on my right big toe. Not to mention the shape of my big toe looks like a round moon. My MIL got a very nice no chip and her nails look great, the owner did them, but I am highly disappointed with my pedicure. read more

Found this place on groupon and talked before buying the groupon. After talking to them, they were price matching to the groupon and I was okay. I am happy to support local businesses. Had an appointment at 6:30 and reached a lil late because of the traffic. I went with my Mom for mothers day mani pedi. As soon as we reached one person started with her pedicure, while I was waiting. The pedicure chairs and setup was beautiful. It looked a lil rusty and loved the ambiance. I had my feet soaked in water but water was not hot at all. She changed it a few times but it was warm. Then after waiting for about 30 minutes or more the other lady came and started my pedi. They spent time definitely and did cleaning nicely however my pedicure and mom's pedicure finished at the same time. I don't know how. After pedi she did our mani. I did not like the time they took though. It was almost 2 and half hours. We were very tired. Also my Mom's nail paint started chipping the next day and in 2 days her hands nail paint came off. They told us you have a 3 day warranty but we did not have time and patience to go and get it fixed. So I just let it go. I would have loved if nail paint stayed a bit longer for my Mom. For me it was okay for a week or so since I did not do any work but I'm not sure if I will go here again because of the quality of the nail paint. Very shady.. My review is very similar to few others.. I wish I saw the reviews first before trying to get my nails done based on Groupon offer. I found this place through Groupon but when I called, Theresa said she'll price match so I went to support. Their spa chairs are not massage chairs, water is luke warm to cold if any and they hardly have any colors to do nails (I'm attaching a picture of all the colors they got in the end for you all to see). The old lady who did my nails did the shittiest nail job ever.. I think I paint better than her.. She smeared all over my toes with lumps and uneven strokes. And Teresa talked me into getting a shine/sparkle nude tone color which is normally used on a base color as a no-chip promising it will turn out good but the end result looked like I haven't got my nails done at all.. The parking for 2hrs costs you $4 and she charges you $4 to use your credit card as this place is cash only and another $5 to remove your old color. So basically you will be spending $13 extra on top of Groupon deal plus tip for the most ridiculous nail service which doesn't last long.. read more

Teresa Charo has been cutting my hair for years. She's extremely talented. People comment frequently on how nice my hair looks and how long my cuts last. Teresa is excellent. I highly recommend the BioMin oil treatment with each cut or color. It's an oil application, followed by 15 minutes under the big, warm dryer. It's very relaxing and makes my hair so moist and shiny. Especially great to do in the winter, but I do it year round. Her prices are more reasonable than any salon around, but the quality is much higher! read more

Not coming back here.Walked in on Saturday for the groupon no chip and the first bad sign was that there were no people. Very outdated salon, there's no massage chairs, TV, or even magazines to entertain you. The nail collection is very slim. And they didn't even have those toe holders that go in between your toes.... Never will I go back to this place. I'm so upset I decided to treat myself to a manicure and pedicure here for Valentine's Day. The older woman who painted my toes buffed my skin around my toenails so much they were irritated. She barely shaped my toenails. After the botched job on my toes I was hesitant on getting my nails done. But I seen I would have my no chip done with someone different so I gave it a shot. Wrong thing to do. I found a groupon for $40 that said "No-Chip Manicure and Pedicure" and thought, "Whoa! What a great deal!" The only think I liked about this salon was that I called the salon and the lady who answered was able to fit me in that day. When I arrived, there was limited street parking, so I have to park in a public parking lot a block and a half away. Upon entering, I was greeted by two workers (an older lady and an adolescent girl). I was told to pick out two colors - one from the no-chip nail polish rack, and one from the regular nail polish rack. I told the younger girl that I had a groupon for a no-chip manicure AND pedicure, but she insisted on saying that it was only a no-chip MANICURE. They should have been more clear about that on the groupon details. The younger girl lead me to the pedicure station. I believe that she didn't have much experience because she shaped my toe nails oddly, and the nail polish application was quite messy. While the younger girl was doing my pedicure, the older lady came over and asked if she could start my manicure. She too shaped my finger nails oddly and unevenly. After my pedicure was finished, the older lady asked me to come to the table to finish my manicure. Her nail polish application was also messy - the no-chip top coat bled onto the sides of my nail beds, which eventually cause my no-chip manicure to chip. This "no-chip" manicure barely lasted a week. Although the workers were very nice, the service was less than up to par. It was a failed attempt at finding a new nail salon to go to. I went there for the first time yesterday for a manicure and pedicure. The nail tech who did them (not Teresa the owner), I highly doubt she had any experience doing nails. I usually do my own nails but had this groupon credit and decided to use it and have a professional do it for me. I choose this salon because it was near my home. I was in there for 2 hrs and left so upset for wasting my groupon and time there. All she did was chat chat chat with me... I was tired and I don't like to chat much with someone I see for the first time, I just wanted to relax and keep to myself but she engaged me the whole time in conversations that I didn't care about. I would have rather preferred her to focus on cleaning my nails, shaping them and removing the cuticles properly. If I go somewhere for a service, until I see that they do a great job, to me there is no point in telling my life story to a complete stranger just because she's bored at work and likes to chat and I don't want to hear a stranger's life story either. Tomorrow I start a new job and wanted my nails looking perfect, instead they look like a 10 years old did them for me and I have no time left to re-do them myself. I am very disappointed and I regret giving this place a chance. I will never go back there for any type of service. If Teresa the owner is a great hair stylist, too bad, because the woman who she has there as a nail tech, is not a professional, she's an amateur or just learning. I have uncut cuticles left, the shape of nails is horrible because she didn't shape/cut the sides, just the length and the polish in some areas doesn't cover the whole nail or on some areas she went over the cuticle and she didn't wipe off the excess. She barely looked down to see what she was doing, she was talking non-stop and looking mostly at me, making eye contact while chatting. I looked at her nails because she mentioned that she did her nails the day before herself and I could tell she didn't do them right, they didn't look good, she even admitted that, that she was going to have Teresa the owner re-do them for her. If this woman is indeed an experienced nail tech, I wonder if she sometimes just doesn't feel like doing a great job and yesterday I happened to be the victim. :-(((( She did massage the feet, the hands, spent time on me but it doesn't matter because the finish product looks horrible. I don't care how well my feet or hands got massaged she should have spent the time soaking my cuticles and remove them completely not partially and the polish applied evenly. It's very upsetting that I went there to get a real manicure and pedicure and I got a feet and hand massage instead. Bought a groupon and had 2 unsuccessful appointments...first time, I received a call an hour before my appointment saying the nail tech was not in...my appointment was at 5pm, so more of a headsup would have been nice. I used a Groupon for the no chip manicure and pedicure. Despite what some of the other reviews say, I had a wonderful experience. The ladies were very friendly and did an outstanding job. The selection of regular and no chip polish was very big. I was offered a free facial while I received my pedicure. The product line they used was exquisite and perfect for sensitive skin.
