Product is so-so. Channel guide works intermittently. In-store service is good. Customer site service is abhorrent. Their technician was the only contractor to enter our new home without either removing or covering their shoes - in January, with slushy, muddy approaches. I know Charter's reputation. We deal with them in SC as well and have had some issues, but they are always eventually resolved. My parents had only had Charter for a short time before my dad passed away. When my mom and I went to the local office to change service into her name, Terri helped us quickly and treated us with such kindness and respect. The same day, after business hours, my mom's phone service curiously went out. After speaking with two different "customer service representatives" at the national call line, nothing was resolved and it was recommended that we exchange our modem at the local office. A service call was also made for THREE DAYS LATER. As I was leaving for SC the following day, this was not an option. I wasn't going to leave my recently widowed mother without phone service. So, the following morning I showed up at the local office with modem in hand, and luckily had Terri helping me once again. I was first told that the call center was wrong, and I could not exchange a telephone modem. This has to be done by a technician. She immediately put the wheels in motion to have my mother's phone service repaired that day and assured me a technician would be at the house between 1-3:00. At 2:55, a friendly technician showed up and within 10 minutes, service was restored. As it turns out, the problem was an error made by a previous technician and it was just a fluke that the service went out when it did. It was also something the national CSRs should have been able to help us with over the phone but they were/are obviously inadequately trained, which is distressing. So, the five stars are not so much for Charter as a whole but to the local office in Stockbridge. We are thankful the issue occurred while we were in town so we could help my mom with the resolution. We also thank Terri and recommend a raise for this very kind and compassionate employee who knows how to get the job done. read more

Charter has awful service. I have internet and phone with them and both services go out at least once a week. I stay on the phone with tech support. It's ridiculous that I have to call them for a service that should be working because I'm paying for it. read more

Consumerist magazine (not-for-profit subsidiary of Consumer Reports) calls Charter the "worst company in America." It's no wonder Charter went bankrupt a few years ago. This sleazy firm's business practices include: - cutting your satellite cable, then insisting that customer fight with Charter's 3rd party unlicensed contractor instead of honestly owning up to their mistake and correcting it. - moving your first bill due date ahead after first bill, without prior notification (told this is a "standard" Charter procedure on 2nd bill) - insisting that customers wait 45 days (unbelievable but true) for Charter's Autopay system to take effect, then warning that double payments may occur when customer attempts to make a one-time payment prior to the interim due date (as a safety measure) - moving from CSR agents in South Carolina to the Phillipines, where they lie to customers by claiming healthy account status with zero problems and confirming Autopay sign up weeks ago, then cutting off all services including (Emergency 911) shortly thereafter, without prior notice - migrating from helpful humans to speak with or chat online (about no-service issues) to worthless automated systems - poor no-service reliability I really wanted to love Charter. Our credit history is well above 700 and we always pay bills on time. But after several serious attempts to cooperate with Charter, acting as a good customer to straighten out their billing errors, all of our attempts have been futile. I recommend that prospective customers view the 800+ complaints about Charter on another website, plus other sites, before wasting your time. I read in another review that this was rated as the worst company in America? Well, that is some type of satisfaction for us. Where we live, we pretty much have NO other choice for cable+internet, otherwise we would have dropped them early on. This is not a review of the store in Stockbridge, but of the Charter service. First, the service, especially the cable, is bad. Every other week, typically on the weekends, the service is down, or choppy for a few hours. We have called numerous times and they have come for service to our place as well, never permanently fixing the problem. I believe, last time, one of the service guys told us "it's not us, it;s them", meaning they don't have enough capacity to serve everybody in the area, that is why so many technical problems. On top of that, EVERY time they will send someone in, they would charge us $50. For fixing their own mistakes. They indeed would remove the charge once we called their customer care and explained everything once and again...How frustrating! We pay about $160/month to get frustrated and to eventually be overcharged with what? Something that should provide fun, relaxation, and entertainment. It is for that reason I have not signed up for autopay. Cause I want to constantly monitor/control my bill. Of course, if you are 11 days late, which we have been a couple of times during summer while on vacation, they will hit you with a $8 late fee, which comes 2 bills after the late, one, meaning once you have already paid 2 bills already! Makes no sense, especially for someone who has never defaulted or was late for more than 2 weeks and always pays two months in one later on. So get this, mid August, I pay $300+ . Beginning of September, my bill comes $300+ (they had not yet processed the double payment) plus the fee. "How were we to know that you paid?" told me the rep on the phone, since the statement was published 2 (!) days before your payment went through (it was a weekend, but oh well). How??? If I could leave zero I would. Extremely long hold times (45 mins) and get disconnected. My 5 year old box went bad (which they don't even carry any more) and have to take it in after I trouble shot it for them over the phone. I asked for credit after a week of the box being bad and they offered $1.40 since the box is $6.99/mo. It doesn't matter that I pay $80 for service and can't use it without the box. They said I was lucky to get anything. They are absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with. If I had any other option I would use it. read more

To clarify, Im a fan of the phone and internet service. Went from ATT that could never get the speed right and always bottomed out during peek times, and always promising they will fix it.. I gave up on ATT. I wont get Charter tv, The inlaws have it and toe pic quality has never been good and the menus are so hard to figure out compared with Directv. The few times that i have has service drop, we never had any issues getting it back up. They did try to charge me for a service visit one time trying to tell me that it was an inside wiring problem when the tech said it was a line problem at the ped. Rule of thumb save those job order papers they give you after they get done. other than that no problems! read more

I have made numerous requests for Charter to come out and fix the pedestal boxes in our community. This is their equipment and they don't maintain it, therefore we have poor reception on our TVs. So unhappy with this service and they have no incentive to provide improved service since they have a captive audience in Smyrna. I can't wait for Google Fiber and suspect Charter will attempt better offerings when they have to compete but it will be too late at that point. Not worth a one-star rating, but worth chiming in like everyone else. I moved into a new home in May 2013. At my previous house, we had the other big Cable Company, and other than being expensive; the service was great. Therefore, in the new home we decided not to put all of our chickens in one basket, so we split the service between Charter and a Satellite company. The satellite service was great except when the wind blew, over cast or raining. Other than that, it was great; I really enjoyed the features they offered. However, after cutting down several trees and having a tech to advise that it really was not my trees, but the neighbors' trees interfering with my reception. We then decided to cancel the satellite service and combine all services with Charter. After 2 years, they have made a dozen trips to the house to test connections, run 2 cables from the street to separate the Internet and TV, and diagnose other issues as well. Every time I call, I get a nice person on the phone that provides the same answer, "We can send a tech out to see if he can find something." Regularly, I reset the DVR, send a reset signal from the website, and reset the cable modem as well. Nothing seems to work; and when the weather is bad so is the TV reception. How does this happen with cable? This cable service is almost as bad as the satellite company is. I can understand how clouds interfere with the reception of satellite, but do not understand how the weather affects cable TV. These cables are in the ground. Remember the seventies Chinese Kung Fu movies with the audio dubbed over the video? The sound did not go with the video, and that is how the majority of programming is watched. Good thing I like sports, where you do not see the announcers. When the cable goes out, so does the Internet, and telephone. There are times I try to use the phone and only get a tone, due to poor Internet connections. Speed test indicates the Internet speed is more than 30 Mbps, great speed, but try to open the edge web browser. There are times it will take 30 seconds to load the home page. I finally had to change the home page just to get on the Internet. The internet continuously drops, and no problems were found. Moreover, forget about checking your email, what happened to their homepage. Were there cost reductions that lead to the redesign? I now use Outlook for email and do not have to go the website for anything other than rest connections. One other thing that really bothers me is how they will call to let me know that a payment is due, but no one ever calls to ask how the service is working. I agree with most of everyone else; the service is poor; the service is expensive, and it appears no one cares.... read more

We just signed up for a bundle package with Charter. We had internet service with them already and it was being included into the bundle with tv and phone. We were told not to pay the current internet bill by Charter. We were covered thru the 14th of the month on the last bill we paid and our new service with them started on the 13th of that month, so we were current on our internet bill with one day to spare. When we get our bill from them for new service they charged us the $59.99 for the internet service we had with them that we did not owe and tried to give us some cock and bull story that they weren't charging us that they were charging us for blah blah blah blah blah. Which makes no sense when you go to the amount owed and subtract that charge it was the amount of the current service minus the $59.99. They didn't want to talk about the first page of the bill that showed that, they wanted to direct you to the second page and try to convince you that what you were seeing was wrong and you were too stupid to know the difference. They are scammers just look all the other services out there, so beware if you have any service with them and change to a bundle they will stick you with charges you don't owe and try to make you out to be the stupid one by refusing to admit what they are doing and trying to convince you all the crap on the second page tells the story when it doesn't. I don't know about everyone else but I am sick and tired of being scammed by these companies who can charge you what ever they want and get away with it. Yes we talked to a supervisor and she was worse than the person working the phone. We didn't choose to go from free tv to having to pay for cable or satellite services, like everything else it's just done and we have to live with it and being nickled and dimed to death by these companies for services that we were never asked if we wanted to change to in the first place. read more
