I booked La Sirena with 11 people to celebrate my birthday. I had amazing time. Captain Stephen was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He made the whole experience special. Everyone that went really enjoyed themselves and said they would book another boat ride with the same captain and boat. Before the day we sailed out I asked a million and one questions and they were all answered in a timely manner. Instructions on how to prepare for the charter were clear. Directions to where the dock is located were clear as well. They recommend buying Dramamine for motion sickness. You should get it even if you don't think you'll get sick. My group and I did a morning charter and were back by the afternoon. I thought that was perfect since it wasn't too hot while we were out in the ocean. Can't wait to book another boat ride. I would question the safety of booking on their boat, Chief. As a long-time boater in Marina del Rey I was quite disturbed by the unsafe, and inconsiderate conduct of whoever is the captain. He sped away from the dock, causing a huge wake for everyone, almost capsizing my dinghy. Cut straight across the channel coming within 3 ft of several boats. Boaters in the area are usually safer and follow the law in the harbor. I wouldn't go near him. read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a while now. I decided to rent this boat for my 26th birthday in the beginning of July and I can honestly say it was one of the best birthdays I have had! The boat was everything I expected and more. We went with captain Stephan and he was an amazing captain! He felt like he was part of the friend group! I have always wanted to go out sailing on a big boat but I thought it would be too expensive. I found charters 2000 through yelp and I booked a charter in June with 10 of my friends which made it very affordable. It was one of the best days of my life. Captain Santi sailed us to Palos Verdes and it was amazing. His boat is huge, lots of space, it has two bathrooms but the important thing was that he made us feel that it was our boat, our charter. We played music and had some drinks (many) while we sailed. Then he stopped and we were able to jump from the boat and dive-in and play with the paddle boards. We saw dolphins on the way back to make it even better. We are already planning our next trip. Great experience. read more

I was very excited to plan my boyfriend's birthday this year because I couldn't participate in his decade birthday sailing trip last year while I was working in Seattle. Also I knew he wanted to sail again this year so I really wanted to make this happen with his sister and mother visiting from out of town. First, we know Stephen from NYC and we all happen to move to LA around the same time so our friendship with Stephen was already confident and comfortable. Next, we know Stephen is an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, experienced, and easy going guy so we knew we could expect a special adventure sail this year again! I was connected to Gustavo (owner) for the details and rental and he was so nice and friendly over the phone and followed up with me and sent an email with instructions and details to help prepare for the sail. This was all very helpful. The day of the sail, Stephen was punctual, greeted us as we arrived and gave us a quick tour of the beautiful, charming boat. It was so lovely to hear the history of the boat and knowing it had been around the world which gave us a sense of the character of the boat and owner (Gustavo). My boyfriend's 91 yr old mother sailed last year with him and his kids so she was excited to join in for another experience this year and felt comfortable to do the sail again. Everyone on board was eager to enjoy their (first time for some) Southern California sailing experience. Although the waters were choppier and the weather cooler than expected, it was still a peaceful, calming and memorable time together. The sun peeked out enough to give us some warmth and sunshine and it was convenient to have access to play music too so that added to the ambiance of our sail. My boyfriend got to enjoy putting up the sail and taking direction from "Captain Stephen!" with his thorough and detailed instructions. It was so fun to hear the explanations for the instructions too so it made the sailing feel like we were becoming experienced sailors ourselves! We were all pleased by the entire afternoon together. My boyfriend was relaxed and content. We were especially grateful for the reasonable rate to rent and hire the Capt of our choice (Stephen) and to tip Stephen on the excellent job he did to get us back safely on time to our point of origin. We also let Stephen know how thankful we were for his amazing service and he topped it off with a group photo with his nice camera so that detail also helped capture my boyfriend's birthday experience for us. I know we plan to sail again soon especially now that we live here! Overall the professionalism and enthusiasm from both Gustavo and Stephen and the art and sport of sailing made our experience that much more enjoyable. Great guy. He is extremely professional, friendly and safe. We had a hell of a good time. He brought us to an amazing reef where we did some great free diving. Gustavo is the captain but it feels like it's your boat! It's a huge vessel with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. I would absolutes trust him for a longer trip like over night or a few days. I chartered a sail boat for my 35th birthday last month and had an amazing experience! My group reserved the charter with Captain Stephen and we a re so glad we did. He was knowledgable, friendly and accommodated our needs and wants. The boat was clean, solid and we had plenty of space for our group of 12. We were allowed to bring our own food, drinks and music. We sailed for about 2 hours and then threw the anchor over for another 2 hours so we could swim, paddle board and just chill. What a wonderful experience! My husband surprised me for my 34th birthday, and it's not easy to surprise me. We went out around 4pm and sailed into a beautiful sunset. Captain Steven was amazing, so personable and a great captain! The boat was super impressive down to the comfy beam bags we sat. We truly enjoyed the open air and salt on our skin. Sailing on La Gitano to Catalina Island was a dream. Gustavo was a pro and made it look easy. The dolphins on the ride out were amazing. Aboard are the water toys: paddle board, kayak etc. The bonus is Gustavo is a dive instructor. Unbelievable how many fish were swimming with you as you snorkel along the shore. I was looking for a boat that fit a group for my birthday (a day trip) and found Gustavo's boat through YELP..... I am SOOO HAPPY that I did. We booked a 6 hour trip from Marina Del Rey and went up to Malibu/Santa Monica. We also had the option to go south down to Palos Verdes. From the booking process, to random questions through emails that I had to ask, to the amazing day that we had yesterday... I could not have asked for a better day and people to book with!!! My friends, family and I had a blast and didn't want it to end!!! We CANNOT WAIT to go again!!!! It was one of the best days ever and Gustavo and his son Enzo were sooo hospitalbe, easy going and made the day so laid back and relaxing. They allowed my sister to surf behind the boat and were so patient with her trying multiple times until she finally stood up. We stopped out at sea and jumped/back flipped into the water, ate too much, drank enough and had the time of our lives! I could go on about what a wonderful day it was aboard their boat!!! Few things you should know that Gustavo helped us prep for: Things to bring: 1- Sun block/ lotion. 2- Jacket/warm clothes in case it gets cold 3- If you have some people who are very sensitive to Seasickness, stop by a Big 5 or Sport Chalet store and get a seasickness bracelet and dramamine just in case. 4-One big bag of ice if you are bringing drinks (they have an ice cooler downstairs (no fridge) that you can put your drinks etc in but we ended up having a cooler upstairs with us so that it was more convenient to grab the stuff we wanted 5-Towels if you are planning to go in the water 6- He has a speaker with a bluetooth so easy connection for music from your phone/iPad etc. 7- he has a surfboard and water lounge. 8- If the water is clear (no rain recently), you can bring snorkeling gear and snorkel 9- There are 2 bathrooms (toilet paper to be thrown in garbage, not flushed... totally not a problem and none of us found it gross) 10- Boat is large and easily accommodated all 12 of us, plus Gustavo and Enzo 11- Boat isn't brand new but it's a very authentic sailboat and we loved it! 12- Kettle is available in case you want hot chocolate or instant coffee 13- You are able to cook in the Galley but we found it easier to bring sandwiches. 14- We brought chips and put them in bowls but after we were out of the harbor and into the open ocean, we had to put them back into the bags so they wouldn't spill everywhere. Best to keep chips in bags. 15- There are plenty of places to sit comfortable. There are about 6-8 seats around the ships wheel, they provided beach chairs at the back of the boat for people to lounge in and then the front of the boat has ample room to lay and lounge in on your towel etc. 16- Most of us who went on the boat are in our 30s but my parents came along who are in their 60s and they accessed the boat easily and also had a blast! You will not be disappointed and WE ALL highly recommend MDR Charters and Adventures for a wonderful boating excursion. I cannot wait to do it again and I really would love to do a longer weekend excursion of some sort and maybe scuba dive! You're going to have so much fun once you book! read more

We chartered Gustavo's "La Gitana" sailboat for a day, was epic. The boat is beautiful and had plenty of space to sit upstairs and downstairs (although I spent the whole time out on deck). Gustavo is great, we sailed from the marina to Malibu and back, and made a few stops so we could jump from the boat and play around with a surfboard tugging behind. So much fun. Call me a neat freak but the top deck and overall sailboat was dirty ( filthy really ) ... there was a party on La Sirena before we boarded and likely not an opportunity to rinse / clean anything.
