Even though I've been here a few times in the past, it's still not my regular banking location. I had 3/25/24 Zoom meeting set up with Issa Kaleh based on recommendation from Officer Relationship Banker (Saltanat Mambetova) from 3590 S El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA 94403. I needed to open an IRA account for tax purposes. Logged in on Zoom and on time on Sat 3/25/24, but stalled in the beginning having waited on my mother to join our call. When that didn't happen and after repeated the follow up instructions with Issa that he'd email me the instructions to set up a Traditional IRA account online later that night, he didn't. Called him on the following Monday, promised me the same thing he'd email me pre-signed templates that day and he didn't until I called back two days later on 4/10 since my mom had deadline to e-file my tax by 4/15. I called him a second time to follow up that he clearly didn't know what he was doing and if he could assign me to someone else. Issa quickly apologized and reasoned that he was having computer issues and ultimately the reason for delay. Bull. I made it clear to him I did not live with my Mother and she didn't have a printer at home so to email the pre-signed templates was ultimately the quickest way to transfer the information and bc my mom was not tech savvy and did not know how to navigate the online banking, email would've been efficient. Instead of wasting everyone's time, all Issa had to do was say he couldn't mail a hard copy or email me premade template(s) in setting up a Traditional IRA account, versus giving me the run around. Issa's title on business card reads Vice President of Investments for Private Clients. With my experience, he could've been a bit more professional and transparent (Not sure how difficult it was to process a simple request I had!) Next day I take time off work to go to Fidelity (having remembered I had an existing IRA account) and all customer service had to do was print out a copy of my Traditional IRA account. That was accomplished within minutes, no hassle. I was even informed setting up accounts via Zoom calls was fairly new and suggested going in person was much more reliable. Immediately after my stop at this Fidelity location, I go to my regular Chase bank location and again, I was approached with some bullshit I needed to invest 100k to open a Traditional IRA. I didn't buy into this as I had initially put in much less to open a Traditional IRA account with Fidelity in 2019/2020. Made me realize Chase was only after the 1% commission had I invested 100k to open a Traditional IRA. Chase, as a private client of yours, you have always provided excellent customer service until this point. We can keep this relationship going so long as you fire all the incompetent bankers as needed. read more

Chase Bank - Terrible recommendation from San Mateo Chase Bank. - Banks & Credit Unions Near Me - San Mateo, California

I was trying to get some bank fees reversed and the banker wasn't available until the next day, which meant another inconvenient trip back to the branch. Branch manager Deepika Kumar was more than accomodating though, getting on the phone with customer service and made sure that not only were the charges reversed but that my credit card was linked to my business banking account so that the charges wouldn't happen again! This was not her job to do this but she stepped up and made me a happy customer! read more

It's rare to actually have to go into a bank these days, so when I had to go into this Chase branch to tell them that the door wouldn't open for me the previous night when I was trying to access their ATM's, I thought an apology was in order. Instead, I got a rather smug reply from the staff, telling me "it should have worked. it worked for me this morning." What a jerky response. Do not ever feel that your money is safe with chase. It may just vanish with no explanation at all. On August 29, 2024, I bought an item in one of the resort centers in California called Yamava for $2075.00. The merchant soon told me that they could not give the item and to dispute the matter with my bank so that my bank could return my $2075.00 back to me. Chase bank spent one month investigating the situation and sent me mail saying my claim was rejected. When I called and asked for explanation, I was told, "the merchant provided evidence that your claim is illegitimate". When I asked what evidence? Who did you talk to? Did you specifically talked to the supervisor who told me to dispute the transaction with my bank? etc...customer service with CHASE BANK simply told me, "we can't discuss the matter with you any more. You can contact the merchant yourself if you want". I threatened to take legal action against the merchant and contacted department of Justice who also contacted the merchant and ended up getting my money back after a month and half. However, as far as Chase is concerned, my money would just have vanished with even no decency to even explain the process of their so called investigation. I immediately cancelled my direct deposit with chase and will continue to alert consumers to be careful about putting large amounts of money with chase bank as it may one day vanish with no explanation at all. read more

3 stars is as high a rating I can give for this location for 2 reasons... #1. They have a punk drive through. Meaning, they have what looks to be a drive through lane and window capabilities, yet there is no actual drive through for some inexplicable reason. Why you punkin' me Chase San Mateo? #2. On the 2 occasions I've been here to use their notary service, whomever seems to be their single notary has been out or in a meeting. Went here to accomplish a couple things. Priya needs more customer service training. She smiles and greets but after that, her communication skills and choice of words are not for customer service. Instead of finding and offering a solution, she told me I can't do the transaction at all. I had to ask for the manager. When the manager approached me, Priya was interrupted the manager telling me again that I can't do the transaction. Ending - she was wrong. read more

I like this branch a lot! The employees are VERY friendly and helpful. When you walk in there's always someone there to greet and direct you. Another plus is that I've it has never been busy while I was there. I don't know if it's because there are so many Chase locations now, or if they're staff is just awesome. But for the employees' sake, let's just say that it's the second one. I actually almost closed my account with Chase because they were charging me some stupid fee that I didn't know about for several months, but one of the managers went out of his way and credited my account for all the months that they charged me, so corporate should be proud of their employees here! I wish I still lived at the Hillsdale Garden Apartments because it is walking distance, but I make a point to visit this location whenever I need assistance from a teller. read more

Was working with an Asian male banker, I got a call from work so I had to leave, this banker kept asking for my social security number when I clearly told him I'll be back to finish what we were talking about and I don't feel comfortable giving my social security number without me being there. He persistently kept asking that I should give it to him, 5x to be exact. This bank really has some issues and it really seems like a cold environment to be working there. Now, Washington Mutual (now Chase) hates me. I seriously have to be the one of the worst customers ever because I conduct many many transactions (granted all electronic and probably "cost-free") and always leave very little balance in my checking account (usually one penny). I visit this Chase location about once a month to do some financial transactions and have always felt welcomed. Their customer service is definitely on par. Every time I enter this branch, the regular employees know my name. It definitely helps you build a relationship and helps to feel like you're coming in the branch to see someone you know. Every time I have an issue, concern, or question the employees at this branch are always quick to help. The only thing I can really say about this location is that if you go during peak times, their parking can be kind of a pain. Their parking lot is rather small so you really have to keep an eye out for the car parking next to you or the car reversing out. read more

2 stars because the manager or assist manager was really helpful. There was a Filipino guy standing in the front greeting people as they walked in. He started to talk to me about sports while I was in line, probably because I had a 49ers hat on. It was my turn to go to the counter so off I headed. The same guy walks behind the counter to where I was and started to look at my account and ask me questions. He asked me where did I get laid of from? I wanted to call my employer and ask them if i was still employed because it looked like he had information about me that i did not know. Are you serious? 1. You had no business looking at my account or what I was doing. And 2. It is non of your business to ask me questions that do not pertain to what I was there for. I was disappointed that the assist manager didn't tell him to go away. I never have any issues when I go to the chase in the shopping center near Safeway in San Mateo. I just deposited over $8000 in checks with Evelin and she was totally inept and rude. She didn't ask the right questions and was confused which account to deposit my checks into. She even lied to make herself sound smart and said that my ATM Card doesn't link to my accounts when she later and clearly admitted she "didn't see it". Makes me nervous having a teller like Evelin deal with my money. Listen girl, you are teller...I'm pretty sure your main job is accredited by your customer service skills. Still giving this branch two stars, despite meeting the manager today. Who really comes by and ask me to bring all my money to her. I understand your in sales, however treat me like a person, and at least be knowledgeable and smile. I have seen her in there a few times before, and she is never happy, maybe you should get a different job. The bankers are great (except that Rochelle). Brandi was at lunch so I sat with Jose, and he was quite the gentlemen. The Tellers are great, always fast and polite. 6/20/2011 Love this branch! Tellers are super friendly. I hate walking into other chase branches because they often has pushy bankers (I did see one banker I use to hate seeing, Rochelle, at this branch now, but she seems to have gotten an attitude adjustment) , but this branch is not like that. Pretty convenient location as it is right next to the mall , don't know why they have all the tellers booth have fully bullet proof glass in front of it meaning it's safe or has a lot of break ins but never had problems with them and have very friendly people read more

The worst bank in this country. We just refinanced our house with perfect credit (808 out of 818). No credit card or car loans and applying for a 22% loan (instead of the customary 80% loan). They fraudulently stole $20,000 out of our new equity line of credit to pay our kids student loans which we only co-signed, property taxes which where already in escrow and a Macy's credit card that was already payed for. We ended up owing $20,000 more then we applied for. They admitted the loan officer made a mistake but still are making us pay for this. This is not going away and I'm using all available resources to make this right. Borrowers beware!! Btw his name is Vinson and avoid him like the plague. read more

After going to BoA, I stopped by here to have my name changed and also to add hubby onto my account. Seriously, there is something really different about WaMus and BoAs...their focus is really customer service, and our representative was very polite, which is what I expect. Atmosphere is way better, and there was even music playing in the background. Another staff member who wasn't even helping us said "hi" with a smile, so yeah, this is what I expect and appreciate. The guy even congratulated us for being recently married. =) Maybe one thing that someone else might have found a bit offensive was the term "Homemaker" under my current occupation, as I am currently unemployed...but, ehhh, that's what I do at the time being, so I can't deny that... read more
