There are great B&Bs, and then there are exquisite B&Bs. Chateau Bourbon is most definitely an exquisite experience. From the moment you're greeted at the door until you say goodbye at the end of your stay, everything about Chateau Bourbon is wonderful. This was our 7th visit (we think) to Chateau Bourbon. Missy and John are the most gracious hosts you can imagine. Guests feel like family as soon as you arrive. The happy hour each day pairs a wonderfully prepared dessert with a well-crafted bourbon cocktail. Whether served on the patio or in the living room, it's a great time for conversation. The rooms at Chateau Bourbon are gorgeous (we've been in all four rooms) and are roomy, comfy, and we'll appointed. Breakfasts are always amazing. Three courses, starting with the house granola served with yogurt and the Chateau signature drunken cherries. Second course is a savory breakfast item, followed by the third course which is the sweet item, accompanied by the house bourbon butter maple syrup. We've never had a breakfast we didn't rave about. Spending a day walking through the Norton Commons neighborhood is like a throwback to an earlier time. The homes are gorgeous, and there is plenty of places for shopping and dining, all within walking distance. Disclaimer: This review is based on attending events at Chateau Bourbon B&B -- not from staying at this beautiful place, though I definitely hope to one day. Good? Good. So I've been to a few events at Chateau Bourbon, and one thing has become abundantly clear from these experiences: Chateau Bourbon is consistently excellent. The beautiful common areas. The touches of bourbon. The food. Oh the food. Chateau Bourbon knows how to help put together a beautiful time. And I'm very aware that I've used "beautiful" three times so far -- well, now four, if you count this sentence -- but it seems very appropriate in this situation. All of the touches in this B&B make it one-of-a-kind and perfectly put together. This includes the hearth, which has its wall lined with what looks like bourbon staves. The front porch includes gas lanterns and a Southern-style porch swing that practically begs you to lie down on it with a book. The side porch has lots of seating options, including swings also made with bourbon staves and a fire pit in an old bourbon barrel. The attention to detail is to the extreme, and along with that comes the fact that everything is impeccably clean. It also smells amazing, but that may have a lot to do with the the owner Missy and her cooking. I've attended a Harry Potter-themed baby shower and a bourbon-themed bridal shower, and for both Missy made delicious on-theme treats. Most recently, at the bridal shower, I was swooning over the pimento cheese and the cake. I love that Missy is becoming known for the amazing chef that she is, including getting top billing at the upcoming Courier-Journal Food & Wine Experience. And while I have not stayed overnight at Chateau Bourbon, I have toured the rooms. The cleanliness and bourbon theme extends to those as well. The beds are piled high with blankets and pillows, seemingly the epitome of comfort. Some day ... some day I'll get to stay at Chateau Bourbon. But in the meantime, I can attend as many great events as possible at this beautiful B&B. read more

My wife and I stayed for a week at Chateau Bourbon. Our stay (start to finish) was amazing, in every aspect!! The inn was beautiful, the room was immaculate, and the hosts (Missy and John) made us feel at home from the moment we walked in. Missy's breakfasts were always fresh and inspired, as were their cocktails in the afternoon. I should mention that the neighborhood was peaceful and quiet, and has numerous restaurants for every taste. We won't hesitate to return to this wondferful B&B in the future!! The B&B was located in a very cute community...with easy walkability to restaurants and shops. While being in a residential area, it was very quiet and no noises when we were trying to sleep. The swing on the front porch was a great place to relax and enjoy happy hour...when we came home at night relaxing on the side porch w/ the fire pit was extremely relaxing too. Missy and John are excellent hosts, the food and drinks were fantastic and the house is very very clean. I recently came in for their first anniversary and after being there for a few short hours... all I can say is WOW! I'm normally picky about bed and breakfast spots but I've stayed at quite a few on the east coast. Since I live in this city, researching a place like this isn't at the top of my list. Let me just say... a B&B with a bourbon theme right in my backyard? I have no words. There's bourbon in the common room that I assume you can help yourself to while staying. Each of the four rooms are bourbon themed. Empty bourbon bottles for decoration. Each room having access to outside whether it be a small balcony or the downstairs patio or an OUTSIDE SLEEPING ROOM! It was cold on this particular night, but that outside sleeping room would be perfect in the summer. I was blown away by the rooms here. When you go to multi-room B&Bs, normally the rooms vary widely which makes some more desirable than others. Each room here is unique and top-notch while keeping the same luxuries/amenities. That downstairs patio... whoa! Rocking chairs, swings, a fire... I can't imagine how amazing it is in the summer. The one year anniversary party was fun. The hosts gave everyone a tour. They also treated everyone to delicious snacks and drinks. If even a portion of those snacks are available on a day to day basis... you'll definitely be comforted during your stay! One thing that stuck out about this B&B... you can really choose any one place to hang out! Other B&Bs I've stayed in have the hotspots where most people hangout and socialize. This B&B was all over the place. It was welcoming. It made you want to spend time all over the house and outside. It was hard to choose a favorite spot in the house! For the amount of money we paid for the room, the service from the owner was basically none, other than the happy hour and the fixed three course breakfast, of which we had no idea what it would be each day. In addition, if you didn't like what she served, you were SOL. If they would publish the breakfast menu in advance, then you might have a chance to make alternate requests ahead of time. We have never stayed in a bed-and-breakfast where we had to give the owner a time when we would come for breakfast. When you're on vacation, the last thing that you want to do is schedule an appointment. Everything here seemed to be very regimented even though there were only 5 guests on the premises. We only had a little plastic bottle of body wash in the room for two people for two days and no bar of soap! Also when I went to fill up the tub, I couldn't even get enough to soak in before the water went cold. She never came in to tidy up the bedroom, empty the trash, or make sure that we had toiletries for the next day. We did have French doors going out onto the patio and that was very nice because we got to sit out there in the evening and it was nice to have the entrance from our bedroom. It was my husband's birthday and I ordered the Bourbon Package so I expected to see a bottle of bourbon, and the 2 glasses that were part of the package, to be waiting for us in the bedroom when we arrived. However they apparently forgot about it because we had to ask for it the next day. Overall, the property was nice but the service was very disappointing. read more

First of all, the gorgeous pictures you see when you look at Chateau Bourbon? All absolutely accurate, it truly is as beautiful, immaculately clean and stylish as it looks. I loved the different spaces to hang out - we had a room with an outside balcony, great for early morning coffee and reading a book. When we wanted a change of scence, swinging on the front porch, sitting in the loung or outside rear lounge, all were just wonderful places to read, chat and watch the world go by. The breakfasts were delicious, truly foodie heaven - we're vegetarians and Missy cooked wonderful alternatives for us. And the 5pm cocktail (and dessert, yum again!) hour was brilliant fun, amazing bourbon based cocktails (which I loved whilst not even really being a bourbon fan!), wonderful sweet treats and a really lovely opportunity to chat with the owners and the other guests (if that's not what you want you are able to still have the cocktail and take it into one of the quiet spaces, they won't mind!). Whilst we're mentioning hosts, John and Missy were clearly just born to do this. In addition to having created such a welcoming home away from home, they're warm, interesting and really want their guests to have the best time - they know so much about the local area, businesses etc that forget the internet, just ask them! Lastly (and believe me I really could write more), we did two bourbon tastings whilst in KY - once at a local distillery and one with Missy. Whilst the distillery tour was interesting, we learned so much more with Missy - by the time we did it, she'd got to know us a bit, she'd also talked with us about our distillery experience and she used all that information to create a truly personalized exxperience for us - she even managed to find me bourbon that I would actually drink - no mean feat for a wimpy wine drinker like me. Holy crap, this place is cute AF!! I have not had the opportunity to stay overnight here....yet. But I had the opportunity to visit on the occasion of their first anniversary. What a lovely gathering! But I sure would like to! The space is gorgeous! Wonderfully decorated, clean and cozy. And, naturally, there is a heavy bourbon theme to decorating and names of the rooms. A wonderful embrace of the local culture. Each room has it's own bathroom and outdoor space. One room even has a sleeping porch! (takes note for my imaginary future house....) Also swoon-worthy is the first floor patio! A fire pit, some swings, adorable seating (also noted for my imaginary future house...) What I certainly can personally vouch for is the deliciousness of the food made by Missy and John. I am particularly fond of the sweet stuff they make (doughnuts and cookies and whatnot), but everything they have made and I have tried has been amazing! I can't believe it's taken us this long to try out a B & B -- and I'm so glad Chateau Bourbon was our first experience. This place is so ridiculously beautiful, with so many thoughtful details that it's hard to stop looking at things when you first arrive. From a bourbon stave adorned fireplace to the cute prints and photos hanging in the perfect spots, it's just beautiful. There was even a earring holder that had been made out of a cheese grater in our room! We stayed in the "Single Barrel Suite," which was so lovely. The headboard is made from the same bourbon staves as the fireplace! The bathroom and rest of the room was also wonderful and we were so comfortable. My husband is still talking about how great the pillows were. We spent the evening enjoying a sweet treat - homemade chocolate bourbon cake with bourbon whipped cream - and hanging out with the other guests. We played games in the pretty dining room and shared stories and conversation on the fun back patio. The owners made swings out of bourbon barrel parts and there's a great outdoor fire to enjoy. In the morning, we woke to a three-course breakfast: bourbon granola with yogurt, Italian strata and home fries, and apple cider donuts. Delicious! Along the way, there were extra amenities including a well-stocked guest pantry, robes, and a computer we could access had we needed it. The location was great as you're right smack in the middle of Norton Commons, with fun shops and great access to anywhere you want to go in Louisville. It's so clear that the owners love bourbon, entertaining and making people happy. This stay was everything that's fun about a hotel-escape and everything that's welcoming about staying over at a good friend's house. From the moment we pulled up to Chateau Bourbon we knew we were in for a treat. It is so welcoming and beautiful! Lamps flickering and a twin-sized swing with "Hey Y'all" pillows welcomed us. One step inside, and we were greeted by the innkeepers Missy and John as well as a sign that had our names on it. How fun! All evening I kept saying "Look at this! Ooooh look at that!" There are little clever bourbon-y things to see all over the place. We stayed in the first floor suite, which had a white, black and yellow color palate. (Swoon) The birdcage wallpaper was just perfect. There was a soaking tub and a HUGE shower in the bathroom attached. They served bourbon cocktails and the most delicious bourbon torte cake with bourbon whipped cream topped with a bourbon soaked cherry. They've got the bourbon thing down, y'all. We went outside and my inner child got to swing on the bourbon barrel swings for a good 30 minutes while the guys enjoyed the bourbon barrel fire pit. Just a few steps inside and we were in our room! We enjoyed the guest pantry when we wanted snacks late in the evening, which was stocked with all sorts of treats, a fridge and an ice machine. And then...in the morning...after a heavenly sleep on what might be the most comfortable bed I've ever been in...they served breakfast. Italian Strata with home fries and an apple fritter doughnut! I raved about the Strata so much that my mom asked if she could come to Chateau Bourbon just for the breakfast! I highly recommend Chateau B&B. We came here for a one night stay for our anniversary and it was even more amazing that expected!! From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, everything was 100% welcoming and perfect. The Chateau B&B has been entirely thought out including the cutest and simplest of details. My wife and I spent a night at Chateau Bourbon this past weekend, and I would like to say how pleasant it was, but it's hard to come up with the right words. Missy and John, who own the B&B, were the most gracious hosts you could imagine, making us feel welcome the moment we arrived.   The conversation over cocktails was great, and the accommodations were entirely too comfortable (as in - we didn't want to leave).  The 3-course breakfast was excellently prepared and delicious. Making the stay even more enjoyable is the neighborhood surrounding Chateau Bourbon. Filled with shops, restaurants, green spaces and homes, Norton Commons is a great example of new urbanism, where everything is in walking distance.   We highly recommend staying here. We chose to stay at Chateau Bourbon to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and what a perfect choice it was ! To begin as I reviewed social media , photos , news articles , and guest feed back I could instantly tell how special of a bed and breakfast this would be. I made our reservations online which was very easy , and thorough. Upon our arrival we instantly felt welcomed. My first impression as we walked in was WOW this is stunning ! I absolute loved the modern yet homey feel , and the theme of bourbon , Kentucky and class filled every room. You could instantly room by room tell how thought out each piece of decor was well thought and planned. Everything was so succinct. We enjoyed the ability to eat dinner in the neighborhood just a short walk away from our stay. There are so many neat places in Norton Commons to enjoy , from shopping , dining , coffee and more. After dinner we returned to a delicious Night cap of Bourbon and Warm Molten Lava Cake that was to die for ! We enjoyed the outside patio with fire pit and adorable bourbon barrel seated swings and great company. Our room was beautiful , sheik , and so peaceful and relaxing! LOVED the soaking tub and very spacious shower. The bed was AMAZINGLY comfortable! We ended our stay with a delicious 3 course breakfast ! Had the most amazing Granola with Vanilla Yogurt topped with Cherries that had been soaked in Bourbon YUM !! The entire breakfast experience was delicious! I had never been to a bed and breakfast before this experience. I can definitely say it would be an experience I would have again. And I will be telling all of my friends they must try Chateau Bourbon! read more
