I was really curious as to how I could shop and walk out without scanning and paying at a checkout. Apparently, there are cameras and shelves are weighted, supposedly. If something is removed, it's assumed that I was purchasing it. There were helpful employees ready to answer questions, and they offered free reusable bags for me to use. I walked out with a few things and a receipt was emailed to me hours later. I was also able to see the itemized receipt on my Amazon purchase history. There was a minor mistake on the receipt for some taco seasoning that I was charged for since I picked it up to look at, but put it back without purchasing. Not a big deal since I got other items on sale. It was an interesting concept overall.

I had neither an app nor a credit card, but fortunately a considerate employee permitted my entrance anyway, and I ended up paying with cash (let's be thankful for small miracles these days). Once inside, what do they offer for sale? About 90% is the same old convenience foods you'd find in any supermarket or 7-Eleven. The other ~10% are sandwiches, salads, and wraps that seem to be exclusive to Amazon Go. Given the size of the marketing push that Amazon is making for these stores, it seems like much ado about nothing. I'm NOT saying that Amazon Go is bad; it's just that I expected more uniqueness for all the ballyhoo they're making on it's behalf. I seem to recall some advertisements bragging about customize-able sandwiches, but nothing like that was in evidence. Perhaps 8pm on a Sunday was outside the window of availability for that. Another advertisement bragged "It's great; you walk in, grab and go and no need to wait in line or deal with cashiers", as if we customers are supposed to jump for joy at the idea of stores without employees ("How long until YOUR job is also downsized with software/apps?"). All in all, Amazon Go underwhelmed me, perhaps mostly because I'm old and am put off by the twin ideas of a retail establishment (a) having physical barriers to entry, and (b) bragging that their employees are few in number and mere tokens in their ultimate goal of employee-less retail experiences. * The kind that reminds one of the sort used to keep horses evenly aligned before the beginning of a race. If I'm ever moved for a second visit (which is doubtful), I may try pushing my way through them without scanning an app or swiping a credit card . . . . just to see how much resistance they present to the app-less & credit-card-less human.

Many of the aisles were bare. This was weeks ago and there were no markdowns yet in early June. Back to the ice cream, I have often chosen pistachio, cookies n cream, or chocolate malted crunch. Inexpensive and good ice cream! I have seen Thrifty's ice cream in the frozen aisles at grocery stores. Sure, I can purchase 'em there and have it at home. Not quite the experience of purchasing on a cone or a cup at Rite Aid. Have gone to this location a couple of times, another in Torrance and in Norwalk for my scoop ice cream and friend's/fam's scoops. They were always generous scoops too. Aw, thanks for the memories!

She has ZERO people skills, no customer service abilities and has no business being a manager of any sort. I have been coming here for almost 30 years and their management in their pharmacy has left a lot to be desired. Their prior manager, Paul had absolutely zero people skills as well. Looks like they went from bad to worse with Lee. Not only did she hang up in my face, prior to that she refused to listen to what I needed before putting me on hold and coming back with a holier than thou attitude in every word coming out of her mouth. Details: I ordered a prescription to be delivered yesterday and paid for it. It was supposed to be delivered before close of business yesterday. This morning I get a text asking if I'm still picking up my RX. I replied no since it was supposed to be delivered as I paid for it already. Immediately I received another text saying ok we cancelled your order, let us know when you want it refilled. Naturally I called because I need my prescription and I had ordered and paid for it yesterday. I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Lee. Instead of listening to my question, she kept saying things that had nothing to do with my problem. I got frustrated and raised my voice a little to try to get her to listen to me and she then WENT OFF on me. I asked for the manager and she said "I am the manager" and hung up on me. This was a very simple error on their part that could've been easily handled and should not have ruined anyone's day. People who go to a pharmacy for prescriptions should not be treated the way Lee treats people. I have cancer (in remission), coronary heart disease, anemia, and a plethora of other ailments that I need medicine for. I don't need the stress of having to listen to someone like Lee tell me to check with my credit card company to see if a payment has gone through when it had nothing to do with what I needed. Of course my credit card went through, I'm on express pay with the pharmacy! Not only are her customer service skills, and people skills waning, her thinking process apparently wasn't working today either. This is my last straw with this pharmacy. I have gotten many different solicitations to have my prescriptions delivered by mail free of charge by various different companies. I am definitely going to look into those because I am not ever going to deal with Lee again. I have way too many health problems to have to be verbally abused and berated by my pharmacist. Came here yesterday just to pick up an item I forgot to bring from home. I found it easily although…read moreit was way way more expensive than I would have paid it home. But since I needed it I had no choice. I didn't see any staff members in the store at all and then I went to self checkout which made life easy on getting what I needed, paying for it and being out the door. The store itself seem clean and seemed easy to find what I was looking for. The pharmacy itself wasn't open but it was after 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday so that could have been why. It was nice that this was adjacent to the hotel I was staying at.
