I found the bubbles to be lacking in availability, Not a good selection. I ordered a large black tea with mango and passion bubbles. I sadly, was not impressed with my order at Chatime. Located in Ross Park Mall on the upper level I noticed the tea place on my way in, so I knew this was where I was stopping on my way out to have a good milk tea drink for the drive home. The staff was so friendly, even when it was hard to hear with the masks, they were friendly, patient and helpful. I ordered a taro milk tea with boba. I got the drink with less sugar and less ice. The first thing I noticed with the taro is that is wasn't made fresh. This is the first time I've seen this at a tea shop. It was in a pitcher sitting off to the side, and it wasn't even on ice. Considering it's served with ice my assumption is that it's needed, right? The drink was pour and shook by hand, another thing I thought was odd. Most other places have machines that will shake the drink for them. The worst part of that the boba was hard. It had an almost crunchy center. I couldn't eat them. I had to spit them out each time. I usually don't go out to Ross Park Mall that often, but there was a promotion for Yelp Elite and so I went on a Wednesday around 11am for a mid-week pick-me-up. I have read reviews in the past about this location not having bubbles available when customers were ordering but I figured if they open at 10am, there's no way they're out by 11am right? Probably, but the issue isn't that they ran out, it's that they simply were unprepared and didn't have any bubbles made. How does a bubble tea shop not have bubbles ready when they open for the morning? I was told by the worker she was unable to make my drink because the bubbles would take another 45-60 minutes and so I requested to substitute the bubbles in my lychee yogurt QQ for jelly. The drink itself was good, and I appreciate being able to customize ice and sugar levels. I'm so happy for my friend now that this place finally opened up at the mall and it's near where she lives! The only other place to get decent boba around here was somewhere in the city supposedly, but now she does not have to drive half an hour to get a drink! Yay! Anyway, I finally got to try their drinks and I loved it. Coming from SoCal, I had pretty high expectations for a drink here so I wanted to see how their milk tea would taste. I ordered a Milk Tea QQ (meaning the drink already has boba and coconut jelly in it) half sweet with no ice and it was perfect. Definitely the right amount of sweetness, any sweeter I might get diabetes lol. I'm more of a milk tea person, but they have something for everybody. Coffee, juice, slushees, oriental pop tea, and even mousse. If I ever visit again, I'll be sure to come back to get something else. Thanks for the memories Pittsburgh. We came here as a Yelp Elite perk and really enjoyed our beloved boba teas. We also appreciated that they gave out free samples near the front entrance - it was tropical flavored tea of some sort - YUM. I ordered the half sugar honeydew milk tea with apple popping and my partner ordered the taro pudding milk tea with less ice, less sugar, coffee jelly and red bean. We had quite different drinks but really enjoyed them both. The Taro and Honeydew milk tea are especially good flavors to get although I do suggest getting half the sugar ... or less ... since these drinks can be overly sweet if you do not ask for some kind of reduction in the sugar. I also suggest ordering less ice since that will mean you get more milk tea without having it watered down. What I didn't originally realize was how much I would enjoy the coffee jelly and red bean. I highly suggest trying either one and plan to ask for those options next time since I enjoyed them more than any of the popping flavores which I only tried since they ran of the tapioca Pearl's. The poppings are kind of neat though since they literally pop in your mouth. Out of the strawberry, sour apple and mango flavor I definitely prefered the apple because it was more sour rather than sweet and I love sour flavors. While I would probably prefer the tapioca Pearl's over the poppings I actually like the coffee jelly and red bean jelly even more than both the poppings and the pearls. What I found most remarkable about this place was the amount of choices there are. Chatime is in the Ross Park Mall next to the Moonshine fudge on the second floor. There was a rush at Chatime at 4:30pm and they ran out of bubbles :( We got Iced Thai Tea with coconut jelly, iced matcha latte with rainbow jelly, and iced taro milk tea with custard. We all got less ice and 50% sweetness, but I would recommend getting 100% sweetness for the match because it is a more bitter flavor. I wasn't really a fan of this place, unfortunately. I ordered the Banana Chocolate Smoothie. It took a bit of time to get my smoothie, but it was very busy in there. So, that is completely understandable, but also had me excited to try this spot out. I really loved the guy who was working the register. He was very friendly and helpful. Chatime is probably, in my mind, the best boba place I can find in Pittsburgh. Although it's a little out of the way (about 30 min drive from where I live), I'd go if I crave for good tea and boba. My go-to drink is always green milk tea with boba, light sugar (gotta stay healthy) and light ice. They do it perfectly and I have no complaints! Can this really be called a boba place when they never have boba? The past five times I have gone there they say they are out of boba. If a boba place is out of boba everyday then maybe they should stop advertising as such. And if they are out they should post a sign at the door because only one out of the five times was there a sign and it was a scribble on a post-it that was not visible until you got up to the register, they probably think that if you get all the way up there that you will still buy something else. Stopped in here for a snack while at the mall. I got the taro milk tea with red bean purple rice. The taro milk tea was great! I really liked the flavor and I didn't think it was too sweet. I also asked for less ice because I don't enjoy when there is too much ice in my drink. The red bean with purple rice was pretty good. Definitely not the best boba place I've ever been to. It's a cute little spot in the mall with enjoyable atmosphere and style. That's where the good ends. Besides the painfully slow service, you have a massive overwhelming menu (not necessarily a bad thing) accompanied by a confusing 6 step ordering process. You have to decide the size, sweetness, ice level, and "toppings" of your drink, provided you understand the confusing percentage chart they give you. When I got my drink (without any boba in it whatsoever) I noticed the label printed on the side that said "Less Sugar" "Less Ice". Cool. That's what I wanted. I don't know why I had to say 80% ice or 80% sugar, (I would hope my drink is not 120% ice) but the drink was satisfactory. I guess I just shouldn't have expected boba. At a boba place. Then maybe I'd be happy. Overall it's a really inefficient, confusing place. THE BEST! All the milk teas are AMAZING, finally something authentic came to Pittsburgh. They have a QQ type of drink which have Coconut jelly and Bubbles as toppings and I think the Taiwan Mango QQ is the most popular. It is a mango flavored juice, and it's super tasteful! The bubble tea is decent. My problem with it is I have come here multiple times and they don't have tapioca pearls ready. I have come in the afternoon and told it will be 40 min. I have come right when they opened as well and it wasn't ready. Today I came at 11:00am (1 hr after open time) and tapioca pearls and milk tea were not ready... Besides Fuku Tea, this is my second fave boba spot in Pittburgh. The boba is chewy and good. I've been here a couple times and it's pretty consistent. I like the brown rice green milk tea! My cousin got me into it. It sounds weird, but it's really tasty! I tried the winter melon milk tea with less sugar and it tasted watered down. My cousin got the Taiwan Mango QQ half sweetened, and it was still sweet! It tasted like syrup and water, no tea. Basically a juice I guess. Out of the last 5 times I've been here, they were out of not only the staple ingredient of bubble tea, the tapioca bubbles, but the same flavors every time. I've never seen any other boba shop have such consistent inconsistency. In fact, I even tried to call them to ask if they had tapioca at a certain time, and their phone was disconnected.
