I was shocked to see just how big this shop was, there's an upstairs section, and then the aisles kept coming. Everytime you thought you were coming to the end, there was a little maze that took you somewhere new. We spent almost an hour in here, and if we weren't heading home the next day and limited on suitcase space, we could've spent even more time browsing and buying. We ended up getting a variety of seasoning blends, lentils, bitters, powdered cheese and egg whites, and some spices. Can't wait to start cooking with all of it! Customer service was very friendly and welcoming.

Recently I am introducing more and more because I love the taste. No doubt I eat a lot of TUMs but it's worth it some days. In the past I've had the Marhaba Mayan Tropical Sea Salt purchased here. I'm very fortunate to have a Yelp gift of the same Sea Salt without making a trip to the store. Here is the quote from the package. I recommend you visit the location for everything spicy your heart desires. I'll stick with sea salt for now. TROPICAL SEA SALT "This sea salt was harvested off the coast of Guatemala salt ponds, created along the mangrove forests, where Mayan began harvesting salt since as early as 1000 BC. Nurtured by mineral-rich volcanic soil and the tropical waters this salt lend it a mild minerality and higher moisture content, making it an ideal finishing salt, enhanced with the taste of the tropics. Adds flavor to both sweet & savory foods, such as seafood & grilled meat," It's definitely good!

Having been opened in 1970 by Ukrainian butcher Julian Baczynsky, little has changed to their old school exterior, as captured by Chantal Akerman's 1976 "News from Home." East Village Meat Market maintains a range of delicious prepared Ukrainian and related delicacies, perfect to take to your home to enjoy. While there are meats like Kovbasa (i.e., sausages,) and what they deemed a "Ukrainian Style Hot Dog," you'll also find yummy assorted fresh Blintzes and Croquettes, like the ones I picked up this last time to gobble down at home. (FYI - Definitely recommend my yummy Peach Cheese and Banana & Honey Blintzes, plus Sauerkraut Mushroom Croquette!) The staff are incredibly friendly, plus there's much, much more than those options at East Village Meat Market,... but you should head on down to this special shop to check out what you might enjoy.
