A definite hidden location for banh mi, you could only tell of its existence by the smell of the bread. Going in, you know there's only one thing they sell: banh mi and the bread that quintessentially define the sandwich. There are stacks and trays of rolls. No one speaks English (or at least willing to speak it), so pointing and body language may be your only modes of communication. The bread is generally good, though I've had occasions where the texture was varied. The sandwich is huge is fully loaded with ingredients. The ingredients are fresher than some of the other places I've been around. For $4, it's a decent deal.

The people who work there are not friendly. We bought banh mi from there three times, and with different type of banh mi every time. The recent time experience, he made the wrong banh mi, even though he asked us three times what Banh mi we wanted. The Banh mi were all cold and it tasted like a day old meat. We also got very little meat in our banh mi. You can just say the entire banh mi was just the bread itself.

I figured I'd grab some Banh Mi before leaving the city. It's not too often I get the chance to go to Dorchester and experience Vietnamese authenticity... This place is definitely hidden. I only stumbled upon it as I was walking back towards my vehicle. Be warned! They do not speak any English. I was only able to order correctly since I knew what each individual sandwich is called in Vietnamese. But, I presume they know they basics if you were to state cold cut, beef, or pork, etc...... They do bake their bread themselves. I witnessed one of the employees bringing out a piping hot batch. So 5 stars for the freshness! And FYI, all Banh Mi's are well priced at $4.

Prices have gone up but that expected with inflation. Makes sense that if the cost of groceries go up the prices here would too. Still the same great amazing quality.

There are only 2 banh mi sandwiches I think are worth eating in the Boston area, and both are in Dorchester: Banh Mi Ba Le and Chau Bakery. Both have really delicious banh mi and whenever I'm in the area, I make a point of stopping at one or the other to have a sandwich and likely take one for the road to Providence. Where Chau Bakery gets the edge over Banh Mi Ba Le is the sandwich bread. Both places have fresh bread baked the same day but at Chau Bakery it is a little fatter in the middle, crisper on the outside, and fluffier in the inside. Also, most times the bread is still warm from being freshly baked, not being reheated in an oven to crisp. The way Chau Bakery makes its bread is why if I choose to take a sandwich home rather than eat it in house, 2 out of 3 times I'll choose Chau. The freshness of the bread is key to banh mi and having the bread even be just a couple hours fresher makes a big difference in taste when I do take out. Other notes: the workers speak English, they're just soft spoken. The wall has the sandwich choices and right now it costs $4, a steal for the level of quality and detail that goes into making banh mi. Worth the 40 minute hike from Providence, RI when I get a craving for banh mi.

Omg!!! I have been so skeptical with trying a banh mi sandwich. I absolutely love Pho noodles and this Vietnamese sandwich was highly recommended by one of my good friends from this location. I am so glad that I went with their recommendation for my first-ever Vietnamese banh mi sandwich. I opted for the beef selection the sauce and gravy on the bread was a delicious combination of sweet, tangy, and spicy. The meat was tender and the vegetables were very fresh. I give this location my seal of approval

I don't think the prices on their menu are justified for the big portions they serve! Yes, they give plentiful ingredients for lower than standard menu price compared to my local area. I don't go to Dorchester often, so I am not sure if the other Vietnamese restaurants within its vicinity have similar price range. But this restaurant is definitely worth checking it out as it has a decent selection to order. I had Bun Bo Hue and my friend had #75 Crab Noodle Soup with Water Spinach. Bun Bo Hue was not spicy, was on the sweeter side, but it was flavorful! They provided me a saucer of chilly oil to adjust spicy level to my liking. #75 was good as well and like I stated it had plenty ingredients (at an affordable price)! If you are looking for modern or intimate atmosphere, this is not it! If you are okay with old school look and closer to homemade food, go for this one!

If you like fermented seafood broths with a lot of seafood, go for the bun mam dac biet. The quantity of seafood in the latter was astounding. If you love blood cakes, you will get a ton of those in the bun bo hue. All in all, I loved going to this place and would visit again. You should give this place a visit.

I feel as if I'm sitting behind my dad on his moped while he taking me home after school again. The Bánh mì xíu mại here HAS SAUCE! IT HAS XÍU MẠI SAUCE! (This is a big deal bc no other place has sauce. Xíu mại whole thing is its sauce) The sauce is RICH and so flavorful - thank you cô Loan for making my sandwich today. I had my bánh mì with their Vietnamese egg coffee and it felt as if my tongue got blessed. To even out the creaminess of the egg and the rich sweetness of the condensed milk, cô Loan put extra black coffee to into the mix to adds more deep. My coffee was rich, creamy, right amount of bitter! I have brought my family here, my clients here and many of my friends became regular. I love this place and I love walking to it just for a cup of coffee when I feel down.

The spring rolls arrived within 5 minutes--two rolls, cut in half. The rice paper was springy enough, the sesame sauce wasn't watery, and the shrimp wasn't overcooked or old. I don't need to ask for much else at a neighborhood pho joint. The bun bo hue arrived a bit after I finished the spring rolls. The noodles were springy, the broth piping hot so the bean sprouts wouldn't sap too much heat, and the portion size was decent. I enjoyed all the beef tendon, but it was missing the pork blood and the funkiness of chili crisp that usually defines bun bo hue. The bun bo hue itself is a miss by its own definition, but still a solid beef noodle soup. That's the primary reason for 3* instead of 4*. Not a bad place though, especially for the price point. I'd come back.

Our first impression when we got inside was, nothing has changed. Same set up with a bigger check out counter. It was organized and clean. We were greeted and seated right away . Super friendly staff. The menu is much smaller than before. I actually like menus with minimal dishes. 15-20 options is good so you'll know what to decide. Me and the wife decided to try two new dishes instead of our usual which com suon and pho. We got their bo loc lac and bun ca. both dishes were really good. I really enjoyed the fried rice that came with the steak. It was actually that good I would come and just order that to go lol the steak with very tender and flavorful. I would 100% come back for it ($20) Bun Ca is something I don't usually order and it's been years since I had it. We saw it on the menu and had to try it. We're glad we did because that broth was really good. A good amount of dill. Gives you a side dish of fried fish . It's not inside your broth so it comes out crispy and hot. Definitely will get this again. For drinks, we were excited to see we could get avocado with durian. If you're ever in Houston, this is a huge thing. It definitely was good.
