No matter where I travel to, I NEED any travel fix. Luckily, my family members knew a great place to take me, Pho Hoa! Their menu is extensive! This place has multiple Vietnamese traditional dishes that you'll rarely ever find in restaurants, let alone all located in one place. As a family, we ordered the pre set Bo 7 Mon, which charges per person. In addition, I had to get one of my favorite dish ever - Bo tai chanh. No one helped me so I absolutely devoured it on my own. Came here on Sunday afternoon for lunch and it was super easy to get to from the T station (Fields Corner). About a 7-8 minute walk away. There were plenty of tables and they were quick to seat us and take our orders. I got the bún riêu and it was very flavorful. I would have appreciated if the menu noted that it was imitation crab. Solid lunch experience. Parking was very easy on the street. We went at 1pm on a Friday and there were a good number of tables occupied, but our pho came out quickly and the food was of good quality. This restaurant is very spacious and they were able to seat a group of 12 immediately on a Saturday at noon. We parked on the street as there was free 2 hours parking. I ordered the pho dac biet and was not disappointed. I've been going to Anh hong for almost 10 years. Now I started going to Pho Hoa because of their affiliation for almost 3 years now. I love the place , the staff and the food. I've never had a negative experience there until tonight. We just came from out of state trip picked up our usual order of pho and found a cockroach in our food. We immediately called them and I understand due to a third party ordering service they were unable to remediate the situation for us. This review is mainly for the pho! Overall, it was pretty good. My SO got his usual pho tai and I got my usual pho dac biet. First, the meats and proteins were excellent quality. The tendon in particular was super tender, A+. The beef cuts were delicate. However the broth itself was a bit bland in my opinion, improved with the addition of some hoisin sauce. The regular portion size should be more than enough for most people (I can eat a lot and I was stuffed). I would say that Pho Le (their neighbor down the block) had better broth but Pho Hoa had better meat and toppings. The points of feedback is that there may have been a little too much cornstarch in the sauce so it was a little goopy but still delicious, and there is less beef in the dish than before/for the price. The portion, however, is large and you get a lot of meat and noodles. The Thai iced tea was a bit watery but the flavor is still there. I realize I've actually eaten a fair amount of Vietnamese food over the years. Pho Hoa in Dorchester, which has a substantial Vietnamese population, is without a doubt the best pho place I've eaten at, in the US at least as I have not been to Vietnam. The service is great and has nice ambiance. Their other entrees, especially the wok seared peppercorn steak, are excellent too. If you're in Massachusetts and want great and authentic Vietnamese food, especially pho, I don't think you could do better than here. read more

Came here for the first time post merger with the institutional restaurant Anh Hoang. The restaurant was well staffed and attentive, significantly better than it was premerger. The menu has expanded to include the rice plates and vermicelli dishes anh hoang has plus the seven course beef although it is pricey now. I remember it being about 36 for two and it's 45 for two people. I was craving pho and boy that was a mistake. My wife's pho is better unfortunately so I was disappointed. I should've just gotten the rice plate and called it a day (one of the big reasons the anh hoang merger was a big deal). I'll come back and just stay away from the pho. Item 102. grilled pork, juvenile pork skin, and meat loaf rice plate for $13.95. I thought I ordered the wrong item as there was no pork chop inside. Upon looking at the order slip, the dish name included pork chop so I called the restaurant up. They pulled up the order number and said the cashier put in no pork chop on the side note. They told me not to worry because they added more of the other 2 items so the price was justified even though there was no pork chop. A pork chop rice plate without pork chop ?! The cashier should have confirmed with me before she put that note in. The person who picked up the phone apologized for getting my order wrong but there was nothing he could do about it. Came here out of curiosity since the owner of Anh Hong has supposedly become a partner here after her place was closed down. Now, THAT was an excellent Vietnamese restaurant! This one is ok-ish, mainly has ambiance going for it, very nice and unusually attentive table service...but food is pretty average. Certainly better than "Vietnamese" food further out, like in Cambridge or Somerville, of course...but that's not saying much. They seem to be geared a bit more towards a mainstream clientele, judging from the lack of fat left on the meat and rather bland flavors...for example, the caramelized pork was totally lean, which is appealing to tourists I suppose but really robs the dish of its true satisfaction and pleasure. A little surprising to find that in Dorchester, since the majority of diners I saw there were Vietnamese. The only advantage here is that they actually serve real beer (Dorchester IPA isn't bad) not the usual Heineken-Bud-Corona crap found in the large majority of Asian restaurants. Oh, and they actually have a parking lot out back. Not sure I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

We ordered two drinks from their pretty extensive drink list and decided to try the Salted Lime and Yuzu Dragonfruit. Both drinks were good but unfortunately the dragon fruit drink became really sweet really fast and we were unable to finish it, though I have to say I do like the pink color! The interior is spacious but the restaurant definitely gets crowded fast so be sure to come early if you don't want a wait. All the staff are incredibly nice and friendly, no complaints there!
