STAY AWAY!!! After reading the other 1-star reviews, I can confidently say our experience was very similar. The behavior we encountered was confrontational, combative, and completely irrational. Without question, this was the worst customer service experience I have ever had. Staff was incapable of having a professional conversation and handled the situation in an extremely unprofessional manner. We were denied use of the pontoon boat for the day we had reserved. Rather than simply refunding that day, he abruptly canceled and refunded the remaining three days of our rental as well, then told us to leave. The entire interaction was completely unprovoked. I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who has to work under those conditions. The woman who initially helped us at the counter was kind and professional, and she appeared visibly shocked and uncomfortable with the way the staff was conducting himself and representing the business. If I were the owner, I would be deeply concerned about the quality of management and customer interactions taking place. Then again, business must be doing well if they can casually refund $1,600 and turn away paying customers without a second thought. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. Drove 8.5 hours from massachusetts. Got there at 4:30. Went and signed the paperwork and gave my license and thought I was squared away. Then an employee named Fred came up and said he had just pulled the boat out of the water because they were expecting a storm later tonight. I explained that we planned on fishing until dusk tonight, or when the wind picked up, whichever came first. He said if you want the boat come back at 8 am tomorrow. I then explained to him that we had plans to go fishing at sunrise, that is why we came here. He lost control, started yelling and said that he was going to cancel our whole reservation. I said "please lets think about this before we do that." The woman that checked me in, had me sign the paperwork and took my license credit card info was just as horrified at his behavior as me and my fishing buddy were. She apologized and said she had no idea what made him act like that when he stepped away. He then came back, more irate and canceled our whole reservation. This one man, who must have been having a bad day ruined a fishing trip for me and 5 friends. We all drove 8.5 hours to have our reservation canceled when we got here. Its is now 2.5 hours later, still sunny and no breeze. I have never experienced anything like this. We have been going on fishing trips yearly since college (we are all 42 now) and never had an issue. We will be reporting this business to the BBB. Fred was out of control, and i cannot caution people enough to stay away from this business. read more

Just don't go. No refunds and just as another reviewer said they will claim it's unsafe for you to go out in even light weather. And very rudely. They only allow reschedules so unless you have a very free schedule it's just a scam. read more

These guys are great!!! I had them redo my pontoon boat over the winter. They knocked it out of the park at a reasonable price. New seats, new floor and new tow bar. They put a new outboard on last summer and it was fantastic. They did stuff to my boat that I didn't even ask them to do and included it in the price. I'm now a customer for life!!!! On vacation at Chautauqua Lake and we decided to rent a pontoon boat to take the family out on the lake and the boys could fish. Everyone we encountered was very friendly at the marina. They took my Husband to go over the operation of the boat for a good 10 minutes before allowing the rest of us to board. He's an experienced boater and a quick learner so we were very comfortable. The boat was very clean and contained the necessary safety equipment, including life jackets. We spent 3 hours on the lake enjoying a beautiful day of riding and fishing. When we were finished, we brought the boat in, unloaded our things while the marina gassed it back up. We received our gas bill, paid it, and left. Super easy all the way around and the employees were great! If we every find ourselves back at Chautauqua Lake, we'll definitely rent from them again! read more

I was a bit wary of our reservations after I checked Yelp. We had seen positive reviews when placing our reservations but neglected to check yelp. Well, we were glad we rented from Chautauqua Marina. The staff was extremely helpful and cheerful. We had a large group of 7 going with me at the helm being an occasional boater but still novice. The guys on the dock were always helpful in sending us out, equipping us, refilling our gas and bringing us back in during our 2 day rental. We had a 10 passenger pontoon which was in great shape and fairly new condition. The large boat was perfect for Lake Chautauqua and our group as everyone could stretch out and the motor gave us enough to pull a tube and get from one end of the lake to the other with ease. Our family is already talking about our next trip to the lake and I would happily rent another pontoon from Chautauqua Marina. read more

I moored and stored my boat with these guys for about five years. They offer a pretty good service and are nice for the most part. Their service department is great and really helped me out when I was in a bind. They took the time to explain the issues and what it would cost to get the boat going again. When I showed up a couple times and my battery was dead, they jumped the boat with no issue. They also rent out boats (pontoon, bowriders and jet skis) to people for the day. You can see these boats all over the lake on busy days. Sometimes I wish that they would give them a little more safe boating information as these are usually the boats doing silly things. I haven't rented from them personally, but by the shear volume of rentals they put out they have to be doing something right. If you have the choice, do business with Lou Jr. He's really nice and always has something good to say. He makes you want to come back time and again. read more

Trust the reviews that note the customer service is abysmal, even combative. They have an incompetent tyrant named Lou, running things. After we rented and paid entirely upfront, we were told no boats could go out due to incoming storms (that weren't due for 5 hours). We called around to all of the other marinas; none were concerned about storms -- and all were allowing boats out. They thought it was nuts we were being told no. And rudely. I've been to Saudi Arabia, a place that hates women (I'm a woman), and received better customer service than at this place. What a joke. read more

It's pricey but it's not too bad. Everyone who works there is really friendly. They explained everything clearly and helped us pull out and park because we are not talented at that kind of stuff. The boat was clean and nothing broke while we were on it. There were enough life jackets for everyone and it seemed safe enough. They do make you pay for your own gas at the end and it's $5/gallon. Last time we didn't go super far then just floated off the back of the boat, and our gas was only $17 when we got back. read more

Chautauqua Marina has always been our go too for boating on the beautiful Chautauqua Lake. The boats are in top condition and the marina store had everything we needed for our day on the water. They provided us with a tube for tubing and lifejackets for safety. Marina facilitys are clean. The dock crew was friendly and attended to our every need. Prices are the best in the area. Make sure you tip the marina workers well because they are some of the hardest workers my family has met. Thank you so much for always being our highlight to our family vacations! read more

After renting from the marina for years, we were surprised to return and find some of the worst customer service we have ever experienced anywhere. For one, the boat was not cleaned (had wet cheeto crumbs, beer caps, etc. inside) and we found ourselves dodging the previous renters' mess. Two, a part of the marina's equipment failed mid-ride and injured a rider. When we returned and calmly asked for new equipment and suggested more thorough safety checks, we were aggressively accused of (1) lying about the conditions of the incident and (2) violating rental regulations that ARE NOT STIPULATED IN THE RENTAL AGREEMENT. Not only was the offensive take on the situation dissapointing, but the aggressive, confrontational style of it was shocking. No, sir, we were never "coming for you" by cooly making a complaint, we were merely asking for the fulfillment of minimal safety standards. Shocking. read more

Our family have been loyal customers since the 1930's. As an adult I both rented frequently and now have my own boat stored and serviced here. I've had TONS of work done on my 1986 Chris Craft and it's all come out beautifully. Yes they are not cheap, but I don't think the service provided can be equaled anywhere else on the lake. I trust the owners and the mechanics -- their summer help are friendly and I know they care about me as a customer and want the very best for my boat. read more

Amazing I've stored my boat with this marina for 8 years. Really Nice owners and employees. They rent and sell all sorts of boats. They are on a fairly big lake that is great for boating and tubing. They also have a store where they sell tubes, accessories, and items to repair your boat. If you don't know what you need you can ask anyone there and they will be delighted to help you. I can easily recomend this to anyone. It has to be my favorite place in all of Mayville. read more

Good pontoon boat, nice kids running the register and dock. BUT I paid $712.80 for a two day rental. And watch out! The contract says no boating after 8 pm - our dinner ran 20 minutes late, we got back to our dock at 8:42, and who's following us, the "boat guy". That's right, tracked us across the lake on our 20 min journey. I guess he patrols the waters looking for people breaking his rules. Anyway he yelled at us to get the boat back to the marina first thing AM! We had broken the rules and were forfeiting the second day rental! No mercy, and on the phone the next day quite the sarcastic jerk. read more

Chautauqua marina staff was great. We rented a beautiful pontoon boat and spent a lovely day on the lake. Loved seeing the grandkids tubing... what fun we had. Of course all wanted us to buy the boat, but instead we will just return another summer and rent again from this marina. If you visit Chautauqua or Mayville, you should rent a boat from here and spend the day on the lake. Also great was the shades over hang on the boat which helped those of us who preferred not to go home with a sunburn! read more

Been handling our marine needs for repair, storage and boating advice on Lake Chautauqua for nearly 50 years...Need I say more?

If I could give this Marina 0 stars I would. The staff is incompetent, combative, and extremely unprofessional. They sent us out with a frayed rope for our tube that snapped and hit one of the riders in the face causing bruising and rope burn. We came back to the marina for a new rope, and to express our concerns about the safety of the equipment used. The manager came out and accused us of not only getting the rope caught in the propeller (which he immediately ruled out after checking it) but for having too many people on the boat. When we explained that we went to drop the injured rider off and substituted the correct amount of people he accused us of lying. He also said that we needed to check the equipment and the boat itself for damages. On top of this he also accused us of violating the contract by hooking up a two verse one person tube. Not only did the staff help us hook up the tube, but there is also no where in the contract stating that only a one person tube is allowed on their rental boats. It is clear to me that the staff was trying to find a way to blame us for their negligence and lack of knowledge. The safety of their customers should be at the forefront and then the service should follow directly behind. It is extreamly disappointing that they cared more about saving themselves than taking responsibility for not the checking the equipment. read more

Price Gouging -- While the gas prices drop the price of gas on the boat dock is still same as it was at the peak of the high prices. Really guys? I know that it's expensive to run gas to the docks and that the summer is only a 3 - 4 month opportunity. BUT 2x times the price of automotive gas??? Opportunistic and seems like gouging. Will pull my boat out and gas up at the pump and deal with ethanol. Or Buy gas at Snugs / long point or Chautauqua marina that will be more reasonable. j Convienent .. During our annual fishing the week of May 22nd 2016 , Our motor gave up the ghost. After Inquiring at every marina from Jamestown up To Mayville for a replacement new or used Chautauqua Marina was the ONLY one that could help us with a replacement outboard. The whole shop was busy getting boats ready for the Memorial Day Holiday but Louie found time to get a motor out of stock make it ready to go and mounted, it saved the the weeks fishing trip. We have been renting a boat for a week each summer from Chautauqua Marina for 16 years. The boats we have rented have been nothing but top notch, clean, and in excellent working conditions. Not one mechanical problem in 16 years. We have 4 teens that all learned to water ski from the time they were in second grade, and are now ripping up the lake on one ski. We rent the boat, use it all day for the week straight, then return all the hassle and extreme expense of owning a boat back to them. The staff are professional, courteous and at the ready to help fill tubes, carry skis on and off the boat, fill the tank, and give you a complete intro to the boat and the lake. They have made our vacations to Chautauqua Lake memorable, fun and hassle-free. You can't put a price on the memories our family will have on the many boat trips with skiing, tubing, boating to the Casino in Bemus Point, Midway Park, and just listening to tunes and hanging out on the water. Thought the boat rentals were way overpriced for Chautauqua county. Over $400 for a half day then they want to charge $62 for gas. It's no wonder why they don't rent many boats. I've rented pontoons many times on Seneca lake for the full day for $300 and includes gas. Owners clearly don't understand if they lowered cost they'd rent 3x the amount of boats. read more
