I'm not sure why two of the best pizzas I've run across have been in New Mexico, but there is no denying what a solid pie is created at Che Palle. Stopped in while out for a drive after checking reviews. We ordered a simple pepperoni and mushroom. What we received was superb. 14 inch, olive oil and garlic brushed crust, that was perfectly cooked- crisp from outer edge to center. Sauce was plentiful, usually results in a soggy crust- not here. Sauce was very tasty, toppings were plentiful as was the cheese. First time visitors are given a couple of freshly made cookies, they alone would be worth the drive. If the food wasn't enough, the folks running Che Palle are wonderful hosts as well. If you are craving a great pie, stop by Che Palle. I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

My husband and I were exploring Hondo, NM, Lincoln, NM, and Capitán, NM. A local recommended Che Palle for lunch. The building is humble and unassuming. We drove right passed it. We doubled back and we're not disappointed. The place reminded me of Mystic Pizza from the 80's movie. We had a 1/2 and 1/2 specialty pizza (1/2 Blade/ 1/2 Muffuletta) and 2 side salads. Our waitress, Hannah, did a great job! The food was brought out timely, good and hot. We loved it and you'll love it too. First our waitress was sooooo sweet. Super sweet. Even the 13 yr old mumbled "good waitress". Huge compliment lol. We ordered the grinder. Good lord almighty that was the best sandwich and my grandson said they were the best hot crispy fries. The staff is easily five stars, they are the nicest people! We came in one evening around 6:30pm while we were staying in the area. They were hopping, totally packed and were telling people to go pizza would be an hour. Since we were dining in, we didn't have to wait that long, but it was still a hefty wait because there was one person serving everyone and three people hustling in the kitchen with a line of tickets. Since we were in vacation mode, we didn't mind the wait at all. One of the owners, Rene, gave us some dessert on the house for our patience- not necessary but so sweet. I really enjoyed the people there and that made the wait worth it. I could see this bothering some people though, so worth mentioning. Their menu changes at least weekly based on their ingredients. They get their veggies locally and you can tell it's fresh, but the amount and availability may make salads a menu item one week and missing the next. There are two boards of menus. The A frame menu boards list regular and specialty pizzas, the big one on the wall lists non pizza items. We were seated by the opposite wall so I had a difficult time reading the chalk and had to try and get much closer without infringing on anyone else's dinner. #gettingold Drinks consist of canned soda and bottles of beer. They have the beers lined up above the order window and if they are out, they turn the label to the wall. I would love either fountain drinks and teas or cheaper prices on these, but not a deal breaker by any means. In a rare moment of food cooperation, my husband and I shared the food in the interest of eating (sooo hungry). We ordered the turkey bacon cheese sandwich and fries for $14 and then a pepperoni pizza $11 to take to go. The offered dessert was a Belgium brownie with chocolate ice cream. The sandwich was so much more than a sandwich. They don't stiff you with prepackaged sliced turkey and wilted lettuce, it was a huge hoagie stuffed with real carved turkey, piled with cheese, garnished with really fresh veggies- it was really good! The fries were perfect! Thin and crispy like McDonald's fries, these were extra crispy and well seasoned. It was a great meal AND it filled us both up! The price was more than fair for the portion and quality of the ingredients. The pizza was pretty good, my husband really liked it. Based on their ingredients list, I think we should have gotten more adventurous because it feels like this place is more about the quality of their toppings. The price seemed to be the going rate for the size. The brownie and ice cream were decadent and a lovely treat. My husband, the one lacking a sweet tooth, was really impressed and kept saying how good it was. It really was. We decided to drive 39 minutes from Ruidoso to Capitan to come check out Che Palle. We arrived late in the evening. Without hesitation, Michelle made us feel right at home. She was so warm and welcoming. She asked us if we'd been there before. Once we answered no, she explained how the pizza menu worked. The pepperoni pizza and Italian sausage pizza were REALLY good! I mean REALLY good! There was enough cheese to make it nice and gooey and the undercarriage was crispy and not burned. Great stop while visiting the town. It was recommended by a nearby town of Lincoln. Easy to find in a green metal building set back from the road. Nothing fancy but clean and inviting. Lots of cool decor including surf boards and old albums on the wall. TVs in each corner and an outside patio and a converted covered carport for a stage. The pizza menu is varied and we got a 1/2 Hawaii and 1/2 Chile cheeseburger. Delicious! We got the salad too which was hand picked and washed that morning. 12.50 and it fed us both. The pizza crust is homemade and perfected along with the ingredients. The owner/ chef greets everyone and checks on you and explains the origin of the food. Free cookies for 1st time guests. There appeared to lots of locals along with visitors. Make plans to stop on you won't regret it.all is made fresh so sit back relax it's worth the wait. Stopped here on the way to Carlsbad. Had lunch on the patio. The pizza and po boy were really good. Meal came with free watermelon and cookies. Our waitress (Michelle) was very friendly and let us bring our dog out to sit with us. Will stop in again next time we are in town! This is the best little restaurant in our small town. I'm sure it still is but for a recent incident on 04/25/2019. My wife is very sick and confined home. I told her I would bring back a special cooky if her favorite eating place made any. When I pulled in the owner walked by and told me she had lots of cookies. I went inside and was told by a female staff after I told her I would like 2 of one cookie and 2 of the other. She would not sale them to me, said I would have to buy 3 to go. This restaurant in this little village is an absolute gem. I'd read other posts that echoed this sentiment and now I can unreservedly state the same. I had the build your own pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms and onion. Fresh, delicious ingredients plus an undoubtedly experienced chef in Mickey, make for a tremendous dining experience. I also had the desert-du-jour (excellent butter scotch pudding with what tasted like toffee crumbles on the top)....muy delicious! If your driving through Captain on your way to Ruidoso thinking "I can wait for lunch/dinner for 30 more mins" Don't!!!! Stop at Che Palle; formally known as Rene's Real Food and just right next store, in a funky dinner style house fully equipped awesome music memorabilia, fluffy decadent desserts, and for a main course pizza and delicatessen style sandwiches! I COULDN'T have been more pleased with it ExperiANCE here, seriously. The owner greeted us as we walked in and explained she had just finished up a HUGE ORDER of Cheesecake brownies for the high school volunteer fire fighters! ( Uh , how cool!) And that since we were first time customers we'd be enjoying a dessert on the house as well! My grandparents are somewhat traditionalist and ALWAYS stop at the same restaurant in town so I was really hoping I wouldn't be disappointed with dragging them off "their beaten path"; and Mrs. Rene and Mick along with our super sweet waitress (I wish I could remember her name, but my daughter thought she was so cool!) Made us feel so WELCOME!! We stopped in because our 1st choice restaurant closed early (after we had made reservations by the way) and, BOY are we ever SO HAPPY they were closed. We had the oh my AMAZING PIZZA (next time we will try a sandwich). We had a group of 7 and ordered the Meat Lovers, The Blade, and, Supreme. More then enough for seven and we had leftovers! WOW each one was absolutely delicious! I also need to add that they make their own pizza dough and homemade deserts!
