We had the award-winning Green Chili Cheeseburger. It was delicious and tasted fresh. Also tried the bacon guacamole burger and a kid's meal quesadilla and kid's meal burger. All were devoured. Perfect place to go after visiting Smokey National Park!

There's a gift shop attached to the grill. 5/4/2024

OVERALL Oso Grill is a good restaurant in Capitan, NM, for burgers, sandwiches, quesadillas, & others. Notably, green chile is entailed with half of the menu items. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 3 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 3 PARKING Street parking and some spots out front are free for patrons. LOCATION/AMBIANCE This restaurant is located on Smokey Bear Boulevard across the street from the Smokey Bear Museum & gift shop. It's hard to miss. One side is the dine-in restaurant. On the other side, there's a gift shop, ice cream bar, & a takeout ordering from the grill. THE GRUB + There is a regular green chili cheeseburger. Ask about their special one! It's called the "NEW MEXICO'S CHOICE GREEN CHILE CHEESEBURGER our award winning green chile, cheese, fried green chile strips, homemade ranch chipotle dressing burger $13"... it's absolutely delicious and eye-appealing with the Zia symbol branded into the top of the bun. Highly recommend. I got coleslaw instead of fries. Good choice for me on a warm afternoon. + Kids cheeseburger with a side of homemade fries ($7 for burger + fries and no drink)... my kiddos enjoyed theirs. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB They have s kid's menu. The cheeseburgers are a good portion even for bigger kids. SERVICE Friendly. A bit slow. It was a 20-30 minute wait on takeout. No text or phone call when your takeout order is ready, so I don't even know why they obtained my mobile number. MY FAVORITE PART... The award-winning Chile cheeseburger! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... Not getting my change back after paying cash. I was going to add the $3 to their tip jar for our to-go order, but they proceeded to do so without my consent. TIPS + Beer is served. + Their hours as of 5/4/2024 showed that they are closed Sunday & Monday.

Had a visitor with me and had to show off the Best Green Chili Cheeseburger in New Mexico. They were delighted with the delicious burger and fantastic service. I was loving the chicken fried steak. Still needs MUSIC!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful location, excellent, fast service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is located in Capitan, NM, so it is a bit off of the beaten path but still within a half hour of Ruidoso. NM is famous for its chilies, and these are some of the best fried strips I've ever had. P.S. They open at 11, we were seated around 11:30, and the line is already through the door and it's barely noon, so come early!

State fair green chile cheeseburger and sweet potato fries

4.5 stars I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time (especially since their burger won the state fair prize 4 years in a row). So, while in Ruidoso, it was the perfect opportunity (and not too far of a drive). Capitan is a cute little town. We got there a little after 5 on a Thursday and it was about half full at the time. Service was friendly. My mom got the Oso tacos (their famous green chile cheeseburger in a taco form), my dad the bacon guac burger with regular fries, and I the state fair green chile cheeseburger with sweet potato fries ($1 upcharge). The award winner cheeseburger had cheese, green chile, chipotle ranch, and was covered in battered green chile strips. The green itself was a little hot on the burger (in which the tacos were cooked with the chile making it a little spicy for my mom but she enjoyed the tacos nonetheless), but the green chile strips packed very little heat. I didn't even have to ask and my burger was cooked perfectly, and came out hot temperature-wise. The sweet potato fries were a little lukewarm by the time I got them and didn't have much flavor overall. It was a good burger, but I think there are still a few others that top my list. It did take awhile to get our order and by the time we were finishing up, there was a 20-30 min wait. Can't wait to try the Almond Joy pie next time! 2023 #27

The food was very good, service was great. You can tell they are short handed but at no time did we feel it. The staff was on every table making sure the customer had what they wanted. Our waitress was excellent! If you are in the area you can't go wrong stoping in.

The manager incorrectly stated that service dogs must wear a vest to be recognized as service animals and demanded that we provide a "service animal certificate." We were then told that such certificates were not valid and that service animals must be registered in New Mexico before being allowed into the restaurant. None of these statements are consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Service dogs are not required to wear vests, carry certificates, or be registered with any state in order to access public accommodations. It is deeply concerning that a manager responsible for serving the public appears to have such a poor understanding of federal disability law. The experience was embarrassing, discriminatory, and completely unnecessary. I have traveled extensively throughout the United States with my service dogs and have never been treated this way. I strongly encourage management to educate staff on ADA requirements before another customer is subjected to the same treatment. Until then, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone who relies on a service animal.

They have an extensive variety of food chicken dishes, salad's and burgers. Restaurants and bars are also about expectations, what type of bar and restaurant are you going to?
