Enjoyed a fine lunch at the Oso Cafe. Came here with friends from Minnesota and enjoyed the experience and Southwest charm and ambiance. We started our meal with the fried green chilie strips appetizer. These were crispy and flavorable. The days special was loaded nachos which my friends ordered and shared saying they were very good. I ordered the award winning green chilie cheese burger and fresh fries. What an enjoyable treat. The service was as great as the food. On a ride through the area, I stopped in for lunch. I got lucky as I showed up just before the rush and was seated quickly. Staff was all very friendly and helpful. The menu looked great but as it was my first time, I couldn't pass up trying their award winning green chili burger. It did not disappoint and was delicious. Dinner at OSO Grill. We both had blackened catfish with mashed potatoes & white gravy, stir fried veggies, coleslaw and of course a Shiner beer. Although all of the food that we've had there is really good my favorite is the blackened catfish. The server was friendly very attentive. The store was packed but we were seated within 10 minutes. What a great place to eat in such a small town of Capitan! If you're heading there to go to check out Smokey the Bear museum, or go to the spot at the antique place on the main strip or heading to Carrizozo be sure to go eat at the OSO Grill! Nice roomy seatings, they allow service dogs which is a big plus for me. Friendly and good service with the staff. Food is delicious, flavorful and very filling! Not a long wait to get your food. Menus had good choices and next time I'm saving room for desert because the ice cream store next store is connected and had some delicious looking choices too! Gave it three stars, I did not like the famous green chili burger as I don't like huge patties, it was sloppy and greasy , the fries were like home fries but way over cooked so they were dry, otherwise would've been good. The Jalapeño poppers I didn't like, the brisket egg rolls were probably the worst item. Best item if I had to choose, the burger. We ordered take out in restaurant and the twin Flo ladies were not friendly or inviting and acted like in a hurry for us to give our order, i'm mad at myself for ordering actually. I'm sure there's something better on the menu but Service Sucks! We come here every time we're in Ruidoso. Really good burgers! Really pretty much everything here is good! We started with the Fried Green Chili Strips. So crispy with a little heat. Hubby and my cousin both had the Green Chili Cheese Burger. I had the Patty Melt and my other cousin had the Chicken Tenders and Gravy. Moist chicken and yummy gravy! Everything was delicious. It's on a corner with beautiful front doors. The food was delicious, very generous portions! The lady who helped us was so nice and loved her hair - her whole look was fab. 4.5 stars I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time (especially since their burger won the state fair prize 4 years in a row). So, while in Ruidoso, it was the perfect opportunity (and not too far of a drive). Capitan is a cute little town. We got there a little after 5 on a Thursday and it was about half full at the time. Service was friendly. My mom got the Oso tacos (their famous green chile cheeseburger in a taco form), my dad the bacon guac burger with regular fries, and I the state fair green chile cheeseburger with sweet potato fries ($1 upcharge). The award winner cheeseburger had cheese, green chile, chipotle ranch, and was covered in battered green chile strips. The green itself was a little hot on the burger (in which the tacos were cooked with the chile making it a little spicy for my mom but she enjoyed the tacos nonetheless), but the green chile strips packed very little heat. I didn't even have to ask and my burger was cooked perfectly, and came out hot temperature-wise. The sweet potato fries were a little lukewarm by the time I got them and didn't have much flavor overall. It was a good burger, but I think there are still a few others that top my list. We stopped here for dinner since we were driving through Capitan to get to Carlsbad Caverns. After touring the Smokey the Bear Historical Park (not to be missed), we came to this adorable cafe across the street and were greeted by the two lovely women (sisters?) who were working the floor. We got a table under a large award and started with a beer and margarita. The margarita was a wine version, and while it was a bit too sweet for one of us, it was still enjoyable. The chips and queso were good, and of course we had to share their award-winning green chile cheeseburger. The emblazoned Zia sun on top of the bun does not hurt the optics! It was wonderful: loved the fried green chile crunch and the meat was tender and juicy and it was everything you want a burger to be. Our daughter was satisfied with her grilled cheese. Honestly, we would have given this place five stars because we were having all the good feels here, but we ordered dessert and that was a big mistake. Their "soft serve" chocolate ice cream was scooped chocolate slush that was flavorless and the almond joy cake had obviously been microwaved before it hit our table--the result was a mushy mess that tasted mostly of condensed milk mixed with coconut flakes. But we love this place so much that we're willing to overlook the dessert fiasco to land on four happy stars. The prices are also more than fair. This is small-town America at its best and we highly recommend it as a destination place to eat if you're in the area. read more

Lunch at the Oso Grill in Capitán NM, was overall a fair experience. The dining area is clean, but rather empty, still I had no concern with the restaurants cleanliness. Most all of my family was satisfied with their meals, and the service. Our waiter, whose name I believe was "Kathy" was overall attentive to our tables needs, but I did not favor her attitude when we first arrived. As for my plate, I had a cheeseburger, and the beef was rather burnt.
