Ordered meal in the Checkers app for pick-up and when I arrived I was told that it was sent out for delivery even though I've never ordered a delivery. The woman (manager) said I needed to leave without my food even after showing my license and my order in the Checkers app. It showed my order was for pick-up in the app. It didn't matter, none of the employee's seemed to understand how the Checkers app works and didn't seem to care whatsoever. I'm so disappointed to be writing this review since I like the food at Checkers and it has gotten me through some late study nights. Unfortunately, as of recent, the service has been terrible. I usually order ahead of the app, which is easy to navigate, but every time I've gone to pick it up, I've been stuck in line for nearly a half hour. Several times I've been at the window, watching the staff converse, while my order sits there for another couple of minutes, even when it's busy. When I did meet with someone to grab my food, the staff was very agitated the whole time. The parking lot is in shambles. Me and my wife went here around 3:15 today. Looking past all the troubles of pulling into their "enter only" driveway as someone was hightailing it. My wife is almost six months pregnant and I swear this might be one of her first genuine cravings, which I don't mind since it isn't very far and definitely could be more expensive. But the last two weeks she's wanted it twice and I admit the food is pretty good even for fast food, she's always genuinely impressed. The workers here have the worst attitudes I've ever come across at a fast food place. I live down the road and have come here 5 times and have had an awful experience every time. Also have unsanitary practices as none of the employees were using gloves to make the food and were touching their phones and then touching food with their bare hands. First, this place is always gonna get extra praise from me because of the late hours. It's become a pet peeve of mine that I get out of work at like 11pm and not a damn place is open to get a bite to eat! But checkers is open until 2am and that is just so fantastic. Love that. I wish every food place had these kinds of hours. I also appreciate the fact that they sell hot dogs. I am not a fan of burgers or chicken, so most fast food places I can just get fries. But not at checkers! I get the grilled hot dog with cheese sauce added. On this particular occasion, they put way too much cheese sauce on, it was dripping out the back the whole time I was eating it, BUT, I personally love the cheese and I was perfectly content dipping the fries in the leftover sauce, so I don't mind at all. Other people might though. So I also got the fries and they were just a bit soggy, not bad! Just tasted like they'd been ready for a few minutes at least but I don't care much, they still have great fries. Now, I also got the mozzarella sticks and the funnel fries. Both were AMAZING. They are what prompted me to write this review. It is a good day when I can get some damn fast food funnel fries. And the mozzarella sticks were so crispy and filled with the appropriate amount of cheese... man. I love that so much. I'm gonna be back for more many many times in the future. It was just some super solid food items that you don't find at many fast food places. Plus, the prices are so cheap. I only paid $9 for those 4 items. That's awesome. Now, I must give the reason for my lost star. The girl who took my order and handed me my food was amazing, super friendly, fast, repeated my order back to me to make sure she had it correct (she did) and had a positive attitude that was really refreshing, but her mask was down around her chin. If you get your wings right away, they aren't nearly as awesome as when they make you wait 7.5 minutes. Tip- They are worth the wait. That being said, service is either great or awful. Today is was fantastic. It was interesting to see people being served at the walk up window. The last time I was here I waited by the walk up window a few minutes with staff clearly knowing I was there and ignoring me. Just before I was about to knock on the window so they couldn't ignore me anymore, the manager walked up with a sign that said ,"window service closed for the season." But today? Sure! Why not?! Stopped at this checker's with a friend of mine who had just moved to Grand Rapids and we were both interested in trying the food. There was one customer in front of us plus a few cars in the drive thru. The customer in front of us placed their order and was served without incident. The cars in the drive thru were also served without incident. We stood at the window for over five minutes waiting for our order to be taken while the employees simply stood inside and did absolutely nothing. One of them was standing at the ordering window looking right at us but he refused to take our order. There was also another employee in the kitchen area who clearly saw us and observed us standing there but she did absolutely nothing. I really do not know why these employees refused to serve us. I did take notice to the fact that all of the employees inside were all African American and so was the customer who was served in front of us. My friend and I are both white. I really do not like to involve race in these matters but seemed fairly obvious why we were not served. I would love to hear a better explanation for why 4+ employees did not serve us. Either way this is very poor customer service and very unprofessional. I used to work for fast food restaurants for several years and I am usually very lenient with slow service but this was not slow service. This was no service for no visible reason. This god awful place is run by a bunch of terrible and rude people. I ordered a chicken mean and instead of chicken in their meal I got fired and a chicken strip. They also gave me a tiny fry when I ordered an extra large meal and when I told them they gave me the wrong fry they gave me the same batch back in the same extra small container.
