I've been in sales for quite a while, but I've never experienced anything as unprofessional as the owner Mr. Kaur or who ever he was of Chicken Coop. From the very start, he didn't even say hello and went straight into using offensive and abusive language. His tone was rude and disrespectful, and despite me staying calm and polite, he continued with derogatory comments. If anyone doubts my experience, I have the call recording to back up what happened. I go there all the time, (or I USED to) their chicken is delicious and they sell cold chicken at a great price that I get my fiancé for his lunches. Last night I got 3 of their pork chops. When I got home I opened them. They smelled like fish (obviously used the same oil as they fry their fish in), but I tried to get past that thinking the smell of fish was from being in there for a bit. It was saturated nothing but grease. Deep fried fishy grissel. So the next day I brought two of them back only to show them that they were inedible I told them from the beginning I didn't want to hand out I just thought they should know. I popped in on the recommendation of a friend, but when I did none of the employees were wearing masks. There's a pandemic going on and wearing masks indoors is a health and safety measure that they're whole sale not complying with. I don't trust a place that let's their staff breathe on the food and customers during a pandemic to make their staff wash their hands after using the bathroom or follow food safe temperature guidelines. I really wanted to give them a chance, but there's ten fried chicken stops on the .5 drive from my place in Baxter to this place that enforce social distancing, wear masks, and take precautions. Well this is definitely located in a ghetto area of Michigan. Now saying that it doesn't mean it's a bad place. I placed an order for some Fryed cod which I got the five piece dinner. I had two pieces with the dry coating and three pieces with the wet coating. They're both very good. Ordered a four piece chicken two legs and two thighs, I was disappointed that the chicken breasts were still frozen and they could not serve them at this time. I also ordered turkey knees. Turkey knees are interesting because they're the back knee of the lower leg of a turkey which is kind of tough to chew in some parts. I didn't Really enjoyed that even though soft parts were tasty and a little bit salty but if you're just eating fried food and drinking beer you probably wouldn't even notice it. I would've also preferred shrimp but they ran out of shrimp or didn't have it available that day. Their menu shown on yelp is incorrect even though everything they have listed is true, they don't have the fish and shrimp listed. I want to say that it is a tough neighborhood and I went in the middle of the afternoon and nobody was there. I pulled into the lot I thought they were closed only I saw the open sign lit up in the window. When I walk to the door, the door was locked and I knocked several times and nobody would let me in or even look over to see who was knocking at the door. I ended up going back to my car and making a call to this place and asked the person who answered the phone if they were open they said yes and I said your door is locked. I love this place! We have lived in the surrounding neighborhood almost 4 years now and have been customers at Chicken Coop ever since moving over here. This is a take out only resturaunt, which is cool. Friendly and polite staff, they have been through a few different crew members since I remember but I can say the same for all they have always been helpful, and are always busy working the majority time I'm in there. Sometimes the wait on food can be lengthy, especially when they are busy, but that's ok because it usually means they are in the process of cooking your food fresh. As far as food goes,they have fair prices for the quantity of food they serve and have nice specials a lot, like if you want something light and quick they have a 2 piece and biscuit for $1.99 (plus tax). And sometimes have specials on their bigger specials. Everything you would expect from a fried chicken resturaunt, good selection of pieces,tenders, I believe seafood also, and most meal combinations are served with fries and the bread biscuit. They also have delicious sides, like their macaroni salad, and they usually have deserts like pie slices. That kind of thing. The only thing that bothers me about the resturaunt is there is a sign that says "employees who accept tips will lose their job" which I really don't like because their employees work really hard and do a great job,they totally deserve to get some tips in my opinion! They also have another location on Eastern off of Burton which I have never been to yet,but have also heard very good things about from friends in that area.
