I used to eat at Potbelly a lot in college, so it was a fun surprise to stop in recently and see how the menu has changed. This sandwich chain is known for their oven toasted subs, salads, and milkshakes. They also have mac and cheese, soups, combo deals, and kids meals. I got the small farmhouse salad and Nate got the Italian. There are a lot of options for sandwiches, including white or multigrain bread, flatbread, "thin cut" for less bread, and three different sizes - skinny, original, and big. It's kind of overwhelming but we just got the original size and multigrain bread. Once it's toasted, you can add toppings. Mayo, mustard, pickle, tomato, lettuce, onion, oil, Italian seasoning, and hot peppers are free. I like their hot peppers which is like a giardiniera mix. The person who rang us up was super helpful and polite which I really appreciated. The salad was fresh and tasty, and I liked the portion. The bowl was a bit too small for me to mix the salad up easily, but not a big deal. The sandwich was full of flavor and the bread was perfectly toasted. The tables were in need of wiping down, but they were pretty busy when we stopped by. Overall though, I really liked this location of this chain. read more

When I'm hankering for a chicken salad, Swiss cheese, and bacon sandwich Potbelly never disappoints... until today. I ordered double Swiss cheese and the sandwich came with NO cheese at all, and there was 6 large disgusting pieces of gristle. I have loved Potbelly's for years. I first had their sandwich in the Midway Airport in Chicago. I tried a new sandwich for myself, as I generally stick with the Wreck, not going to do that again. I tried the Prime Rib, wasn't good at all, first, there was no meat on it, tons of add-ons to make the sandwich look full, but no meat whatsoever. Then the meat was bland, no seasoning. The staff at this location, is generally very nice, I have yet to have a bad experience with any of them. If it wasn't for the Prime Rib sandwich, I would have given 5 stars. I'm kind of disappointed because I thought that my chicken club was going to be good beca my friend ever thought that like it was a way to go. But it definitely most certainly is not. I would definitely recommend this place is not bad I personally would say, but I definitely would say that I would arm, I would say you should definitely take about a 30 minute break to see what to figure out the menu if you've never been here before because it's just so outrageously like planned. I was happy to hear that Potbelly Sandwich Shop was coming to Grand Rapids as I have heard good things about them. Having had lunch at this location, I was not disappointed. This place operates in a somewhat similar fashion to the old Quiznos (which I did not care for) with the sandwich trundling along a conveyor belt through a toaster, but the execution is much better. You pick your bread and can choose different styles: regular or "thin cut". I prefer the regular as the bread is pleasantly soft and chewy on the inside and toasty on the outside without being tough. The meats and cheeses are thoughtfully proportioned and can be up-sized to "Bigs" for about 30% more. You choose your sandwich type and then pick your toppings. I prefer the "A Wreck" (salami, roast beef, turkey, ham and Swiss), but I sub in cheddar for Swiss, which I don't hesitate to recommend. A thoroughly enjoyable sandwich, at less than $5 for a regular size and $6 for a "Bigs". Good food and a truly great value. Is it as good as Two Beards or Schnitz Deli? No, but it's good, convenient and less expensive. A solid lunch choice. read more

It was our first time going there....not familiar with the menu. The young man and woman behind the counter were obviously frustrated with our questions and not knowing what we wanted right away. They were both rude and seemed very put off with us even being there. From this experience it will be the last time I visit a Pot belly pig restaurant. I was told several times how good your food is. Sorry I won't be able to find that out myself. They could have been more polite and willing to answer our questions. They half answered...with a lot of attitude. I have never wrote a bad review but this was not an enjoyable experience. To preface this review, maybe this is not the place to get a grilled cheese and tomato soup, but if you have it on the menu it should be THE place as far as I'm concerned. If you can't do your whole menu amazing, then you are doing too much. Second, I recently came down with the flu and after 3 days of not being able to eat anything solid and stuck with chicken broth, water and Powerade, I finally had enough of an appetite to crave a gooey, greasy, buttery, crispy grilled cheese with a rich, flavorful, and hearty tomato soup. Because my husband did not want Panera (the next closest grilled cheese/tomato soup option near home) and crafting this from scratch was out of the question, I compromised on Potbelly's. Unfortunately, when he arrived at this location (after placing an online order) the staff was a disorganized mess. Initially, they gave him my part of the order and sent him on his way. He had to correct them not once, but twice that he had ordered more food and proceeded to wait for them to correct their errors. Fortunately, when I got to enjoy my first real meal in days I was blessed with the inability to taste a damn thing due to my extreme case of congestion (naturally, my sense of smell was shot which is par for the course in these tasteless situations). I say blessed, because the sheer disappointment in flavors that would have been realized a day later when my sense of taste returned would have brought me to tears in that initial moment. And if you don't know, tears are the nail in the coffin for congestion sufferers. If you are looking for that run-of-the-mill Campbell's Classic Tomato Soup from a can taste with a little extra bite sized morsels thrown in for effort, this might be the tomato soup for you. If you are someone who has never ate a grilled cheese sandwich in your life, then this might be an unmemorable first shot at an American classic. And, while children are probably the only ones to frequent this menu pick, they likely suck it up and eat it because they have yet to figure out how to tell their parents how much it sucks in a way that won't land them in time out. If this is how you do something so simple, Potbelly's, I'm sorry but I am afraid to try the more "advanced" options. read more

I've been here a few times, and when I went in with my family, the girl taking my order with fake eyelashes, gave my son an attitude that what he wanted for his sandwich all rude. Then my mask slips a bit under my nose, and she's stops and says, I need to put my mask when she was very well wearing her mask under her nose. It's all under camera, you guys can see for yourself. First time I had ever been here. I had a chicken bacon cheddar melt with avocado. I got the six inch sub not the large one and s regular drink and was charged over ten dollars. This seemed very expensive, and would have hated to see the price if I had gotten the larger sub and a bag of chips. The food was not bad but I was definitely not blown away by the food. The one thing I did like is the sub was hot. The restaurant was comfortable and clean and the employee's were friendly. As a recent transplant from Chicago where Potbelly's are in abundance, I was eagerly awaiting the opening of one in the Grand Rapids area. I was aware of the one in Grandville, but was hoping for one closer. Then driving down 28th street one day I saw one would be opening in the area of shops near Best Buy (next to a still to open Five Guys). The sandwiches here are great. I am a big fan of the chicken salad. Its a pretty simple menu - regular, big or skinny (less meat) sized sandwiches. Choose your basic sandwich and once through the toasting oven, choose the toppings you want on it. Additional food items include salads and soups. Service is as efficient as always and even in busy periods the wait is not that long. Parking is easy since it is within the main mall area. Price overall is pretty good - with chips and drink coming in around 8 to 10 dollars. You can order online as well and by the looks of it (I have not tried this yet) have your order delivered. read more

Stopped in here for lunch yesterday while running errands for work. Walking in the door I couldn't help but notice how wonderful it smelled! I knew at that point it was going to be good! I ordered the Chicken Cheddar on Whole grain and added bacon. I had never been here before so I had questions, which the gal behind the counter answered very nicely and with great patience. My sandwich was run through the toaster machine and came out the other end and hot and bubbly. For my toppings I added lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. There are many more to chose from and you can have you sandwich your way. It's made fresh right in front of you. They have other items too such as salads and soup. My sandwich was absolutely delicious. This is much better than Subway or Jimmy Johns. I will be stopping in again to try other items. read more

I've been a Potbelly's fan since I first found them in Chicago several years ago. I've waiting patiently for our very own Potbelly's in GR and I am not disappointed with the food or service at this location. First, if you are unfamiliar, Potbelly's' is a sandwich shop that in addition to subs and flatbread sandwiches, offers soups, chips, dessert treats, and one seriously addictive coffee smoothie. I like the flatbread skinny sandwiches: The flatbread is soft and springy and the smaller amount of meat is a good lunch portion. They offer free toppings so I load up on lettuce, tomatoes, and onions to fill it out. Like I said, the coffee smoothie is awesome! It's smooth with a hint of ja-moca type flavor. And I love the little cookies that come on the straw! Prices are similar to a Moe's or Panera. I must say that my first delivery order didn't live up to what I know PotBelly's can be (there was some confusion over where they would deliver and an item was missing from our bag once the food did arrive), but this store was more than apologetic and worked to make it right. I have since been back to the restaurant and called for delivery without any issues. My office is now hooked on ordering from them too! read more

Potbelly is my new favorite sandwich joint. It's really all because of the hot peppers which I've decided no sub can do without. Those from the Chicago area know this stuff by its real name, giardiniera, but I guess potbelly (a Chicago chain), decided it might sell a little more of the stuff if they gave it a more generic name! Whatever you call it, the hot peppers put a big wreck on wheat over the top and i usually leave the store with a jar too. The staff at this one is lightening fast which makes a seemingly long line go pretty quick. I walked into this place right when it opened and it was already crowded. The whole pickles are great too, a touch you don't see much anymore. Potbelly is yet another reason to avoid Subway and that should make anyone happy... read more
