Our family was moving from Colorado to texas and we had just bought over $120,000 worth of furniture for our 7 bedroom house. Just like most people, we've had the worst experience with moving companies, but this time it felt different. I was recommended to checkmate moving by our realtor. I called to get a quote and spoke to Jared, he explained everything to me and he went by the house to give me an acoquine since it was such a large house. The quote was for $17,000 which seems pricey, but worth every penny as they did an incredible job. Mike(the owner) and his guys showed up on time, covered the stair railing and anything else that needed to be covered so as to not damage the house. They were fast , efficient, friendly, and overall great guys! They were so careful with my stuff that I knew it would get from Colorado to texas in the same brand new condition. Mike and his guys arrived as promised in Texas and immediately got to work, they placed all my items where they belonged in my new house making sure they were careful to cover any area of the house that could get damaged with moving blankets. I cannot say enough good things about Mike, Jared and their guys! Faith in movers restored thanks to Checkmate movers! I left an honest review about the messy, unorganized and rude staff. The person responding claims he heard what I was told on site yet he acts like he isn't Jared. As you can see, they can't even respond spelling the potential clients name correct. This company is horrible. They speak to their clients poorly and don't have the courtesy to follow up with them. This was the worst moving company we have ever used. We have used several different companies in state and out of state and have never had so many issues. So many pieces of furniture were damaged. Our couch had a big mark on it that won't come out, our kitchen chairs were all chipped, all of our exercising equipment was chipped, and our outdoor umbrella to our patio set was broken. Not to mention the walls in the home we moved out of were left with scuff marks all the way down the wall and chips of drywall missing on the corner. And when it was all over the bill was $1000.00 more than the original quote, something that has never happened when we have used other companies. However the owner did say he would bring it down to the original quote price because of all the damages but only if we pay cash. Such a disappointing experience but wanted to warn others before you hire this company. read more

Jared came out to review what we had to move and gave us a quote in November but we didn't wind up moving until January 19. He had planned on 7 guys and three trucks and told us to plan on pretty much a whole day. We called back a week ahead of the move and got on their schedule. On the day of the move the 7 guys/3 trucks showed up at our old house at 7:30 and were done loading about 11:30. The new house is about 1/2 hour away from the old one, and after a lunch break the guys got the 3 trucks unloaded in about 3 hours. The crew foreman, Jeff, was easy to work with and all of the guys on the crew were hard working, courteous, and friendly. It was amazing to watch how well they all worked together. One of the heaviest items was a band saw (about 300 pounds) that 2 guys with straps brought up out of our old basement- they made it look easy. Everything went smoothly even though the weather was snowy and cold that day - we had just a few boxes (out of about 600 or more) that wound up in the wrong room and nothing got broken. The guys put down rosin paper on our new floors as needed and were very careful. The final cost of the move was right in line with the initial quote and there were no surprises. We appreciate the great job that they did and are very happy we went with Checkmate. read more

My moving experience deserves 100000/10 stars. The movers were young which at first scared me, but then was the best thing ever - they were going so fast and strong, never complaining. They were super sweet. We offered them water and lunch, and they were so much more gracious than many other movers would have been. They made our moving experience great and were very kind gentlemen. Did not use them because Jared told me after the walk-thru that he had just recovered from Covid a month ago. I asked him if he was vaccinated or planned to get vaccinated. He told me his wife knows more than the best scientists in the world and the answer was NO. I disagreed and we bantered a bit until I said, "if I had known that when you came to the door I would have asked you to put on a mask." He said he would have refused. At that point of almost no return, he was becoming defiant and when I was ready to terminate our conversation , I did throw out derogatory comment about tRump. He said we were done and I agreed. If you care so little about the rights of your customers DURING the interview, I guess that might be indicative of how you would perform your job. I'm 72 and on oxygen so that is how small of a regard Jared has for potential customers . Will you even be safe around his team of movers? read more

We used Checkmate for a recent move within the metro area. We took quotes from 6 different companies and chose these guys for the price and good reviews. Every other company insisted we needed a larger crew and 2 trucks (4 bedroom house). Checkmate quoted us a better price that was based on one truck and a crew of three. That had me a little worried but Jared insisted that it would be enough and he didnt want to charge me for more than I needed. And he was exactly right. The crew was fast and polite and took great care of our stuff. They finished the entire move in less time than what any other company quoted us. I have had 5 moves in last few years; this is the worst. All the other movers kept my drawers full. These packers simply DUMPED the drawer contents in boxes Which were labeled by room only. No sorting at all. So I have 2'x2' boxes where loose jewelry was dumped with socks, underwear, pencils, some of my husband's tools and medication. No care was taken at all. A real mess--inexcusable. I had even asked that drawers remain full in dressers and chest. Was this done to pad packing charges? That is DUMPING charges. These are the only movers I have used who do this. I just used Checkmate for a local move. I was quoted $125 p/hour and told it would take 3-6 hours and prob not even the full amount of time. The quote at the max amount with the transport fee was $870 (already pretty steep for a local move, but they had good reviews and I'm a busy person, so I just booked it). The move took way longer than quoted (same stuff and agreement on all aspects was performed) and I ended up paying $1250 for this local move. The workers said that the owner does this all the time - that he way under quotes, then leaves them in an awkward position where people get mad at them and they don't get tipped. WARNING DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY. We hired this moving company to handle a move for us. In the middle of a pandemic, the movers showed up without masks and refused to wear masks to do the move. We explained that we are not comfortable having them in our house, especially because we have a newborn, if they will not follow the law with regard to COVID-19 safety. The owner of the company became enraged, insisted the law does not require his employees to wear masks, and refused to have his employees wear them. On top of that, when we did the bid for the move, he was fully aware that we were providing an estimate of the number of boxes. Five days before the move, I emailed him with the final number of boxes. He never responded to the email, and on the day of the move, he was so angry about our request that they follow the law and wear masks that he suddenly said he would only move the number of boxes in our original bid. We explained over and over that we had sent him the updated number of boxes, as agreed upon, and would pay the additional cost. We tried so hard to reason with him and explain that we were closing the next day and would be screwed if he refused to do the move as contracted. However, he eventually became so enraged (all due to our insistence that his employees wear masks to protect our infant) that he called his employees off the job and left us stranded with no movers at all. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional and inconsiderate company in my entire life. UPDATE: I'm not going to spend more time responding to everything stated in the company's response to my review. I will simply say that not a single thing stated is true. Awesome moving company. My wife and I have used them three times for short, local moves between Lone Tree and Parker (and within Parker). The most recent move was Saturday, March 7th. As with the previous two moves, they showed up on time and ready to work. They are neatly dressed and very courteous with each mover introducing himself by name. Also, they have someone come out prior to the move to provide a quote. They review how much stuff you have and items to be moved, etc. Then they quote you based on estimated number of hours and recommend the number of movers. The move cost less than we were quoted which was nice. My wife and I are very organized movers so we were ready for them when they arrived. If you are not organized and ready for them when they arrive then you may end up paying more than the quote if they have to wait on you to finish packing, etc. It is a family-owned business which we like and they provide top-notch service. This company facilitated my move from Parker to Larkspur. After moving three times as an adult, this was by far the most efficient and pleasant moving experience I have ever had! We used this company in March when the quarantine was just starting. The team that the owner Jared sent was really bad. 1 of the people in the 4 person team kept sitting down and resting. There were so many things that went wrong, they scratched our new fridge when they were moving it. They forgot tools at the old house and sent my husband to get them. A lot of putting stuff back was done bumpy us I talked to Jared the owner and he mentioned that the team was new and that damages to stuff is normal he tried to take some money out of the bill since there was damage to our new fridge but honestly I would avoid this company. A couple of days later we noticed how many things were done wrong and sent a message to Jared so he would talk to his crew. He called really late and started yelling at us.
