It is listed as a Holiday KOA which are usually well taken care of. This KOA had the potential to be outstanding but unfortunately it is so run down. The host was nice and accommodating.., I blame it on whoever owns the property for letting it go. Hopefully they will put some TLC into it.. for now it should be listed as a journey Koa until improvements are made. After a week long trip in St. Louis, my hubby and I were headed back home through Oklahoma is pretty bad weather and decided it would be safer to head this way over Oklahoma City. The Checotah and nearby areas are pretty slim pickings when it comes to RV Parks, but thankfully this KOA was there. And you're also in luck if you're looking for a site to tent camp or want to rent a small cabin (think: tiny home). We snagged a space for under $40 with full hookups. There are quite a few amenities, but they won't blow your mind... they're very simple. At the time the pool was drained, but I'm willing to bet it's filled by Memorial Day weekend. We did check out the catch and release pond, located in the back portion of the campground (not to be confused with the larger pond to your right when you pull in), and it was okay. Lot's of frogs, some turtles, and a few gold fish. I was getting bit up by the mosquitoes so I recommend bringing some bug spray if you're going to hang out there. We also took the trail back to Lake Eufaula, but because of all of the rain the water was flooding up into the trail. It looked like a good place to go fishing on a normal day. Since we were only staying the night we decided against picking up food and cooking ourselves so we headed over to their cafe. The cutest little boy greeted us and I really got the feeling that this KOA is extremely family friendly so if you're traveling with the kiddos, you don't need to feel pressured that your kids can't have fun, run around, and enjoy themselves. We both ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. I was happy with it. Just normal home cooking. Our waitress was being trained, but everyone on staff was happy to help her and she was honestly doing a great job regardless. Outside of the horrible tornado weather, I really enjoyed my stay at this KOA and if we're ever headed this way again I'm sure this would be our preference. I do think there's some room for improvement like the hookups, leveling of the RV spots a little better, and a few aesthetic updates, but overall it's a good spot, it gets the job done, and I loved the staff. read more

We stayed an extra day here and it was great! The staff are really friendly and helpful, the facilities are very clean and the barnyard animals they have are the cutest. The walk through the woods to get to the lake is beautiful and it was very quiet. We're very happy with our stay here and we would definitely recommend it to anyone. read more

Tucked in close to the highway so very convenient off/on. It is just a lovely location on the lake. Little barnyard, swimming pool, fishing pond, laundry and great showers. Campground is clean and neat. Family that owns this campground are just the nicest people you'll meet. Always working to make the campground even better. We used site 63. Hung out on the patio soaking up the sun this afternoon. Loved relaxing and listening to the barnyard animals. read more

The "Deluxe site #63 is not level. So unlevel We could not release the tow vehicle . Had to go back to the Front of The KOA to release the vehicle because no room to turn around. Freeway very close Staff are friendly read more

Friendly staff, easy on / off access from I-40. Good sites. Facilities include beautiful walking trail along lake, petting zoo, nice camp store with free videos. No cable tv, spotty wi-fi. read more

Beware of this KOA as they have no respect for people with disabilities. Was told directly by the owner that she doesn't see service animals any different from other animals and that they are all the same. Guess the ADA laws don't apply to her for some reason. Cabin also wasn't that nice between the heater barely working and it was 20 degrees outside and it wasn't well cleaned either. read more

Stayed over last night on our way west to California. Lady at the front desk was very friendly and was able to answer any question we had. Park was an easy on and off I40. Jim who escorted us to our campsite was from a town 30 minutes from where we live and the camper 2 sites over was from our hometown. Good clean dog park for our 2 little dogs. Park is very clean would definitely stay again when passing through. read more

If your staying here is an RV it would be fine. The location is really close to the freeway though. The staff is friendly. The bathrooms are clean. There are cute chickens, geese and a turkey. You can walk in the back of the property to see the lake. The sole reason for the two star rating is the spiders in and around Cabin 1. There are too many! I walked into the web by the door knocked it down and these spider rebuilt it. The last straw was finding a large black spider hanging out on the bed-frame right near my head!! That was is a early departure without spending the night. Dropped the key in the slot at 8pm and drove away to stay in a spider-free hotel. 40 dollars wasted and a case of the HeeBeeGeeBees! read more

This was a very nice camp ground. They were very accommodating. Their breakfast was cooked to perfection. Although they did offer to bring the food to our camper, we opted to eat in the cafe/gift shop. You are made to feel at home here. On a side note, there is no tip line when paying with credit card, but they can manually add it in if you ask! There was a little old town chicken yard with chickens, geese, and beautiful turkeys. My daughter and I enjoyed watching them play and get feed. We came in very cold mid January. But th bathrooms were kept warm and clean. I loved the little wash clothes that were offered in the bathroom. It was a nice touch. Although on the highway, we did not hear any road noise when staying in our travel trailer. They made sure to invite us back which we definitely plan on doing! read more

Beware the deluxe cabin is not deluxe at all. We had a Terrible nights stay in this run down, very dirty and over perfumed (3) air fresheners in a 10 x 20 space of this little cabin, there was quite a lot of rotten wood present, maybe that is the smell that needed to be covered by all these air fresheners. Nothing deluxe about this gross little cabin. It might sleep 4-6. But there was only enough hot water for one person to shower. And for all this disrepair and disgust, the nicest people Brianna the manager and her mom the owner coughed up a whopping 20% discount. This crap cost me a restless nights sleep and $71. I have included pictures. How bout that bed with a piece of 3/4 particle board between the mattress and box springs. That mattress cover with the disgusting stain just one fitted sheet from where I'm supposed to sleep. I removed the sheets and comforter to get rid of the heavily perfumed bedding that came with this deluxe cabin. Not deluxe, gross and rundown and shame on you for not offering a full refund to me for this misrepresentation of a decent place to stay the night. read more

Stopped here for one night....it was during inclement weather so the pool was closed and the local lake was in a flood state....but what I love most was the staff! Very friendly and welcoming and the Chuckwagon Resturant offered real home cooking! I enjoyed chicken fried steak and potatoes with milk gravy.....then took a huge piece of the peach cobbler back to my site :). read more

Cute, Cute, Cute! Nice little place. Easy to get to off the Interstate. Quiet, the grounds are groomed and well kept up. Barnyard Zoo is the cutest. Lake is beautiful and the people are very nice and accommodating. Had trouble with the satellite because of the trees but I am sure there are sites that don't have that problem. Even though its not close to a lot of attractions/sights its definitely a great place to unwind from driving down the road. This is definitely a place we will return to. Go see for yourself...they deserve your business. read more

The manager was rude they scheduled me for June 4-6 by mistake when I requested it for July 4-6 and would not correct it or refund my money! So it cost me almost 250.00 for a stay that never took place!Will never camp here! read more

This is one of my favourite KOAs. While I am sympathetic to the review below, I am not put off by bugs, so they have my whole hearted support (to be fair, I do stay in my trailer). I love the grounds, the creatures who share the space, the staff, and frankly even the weather, even when it's raining. They have a wonderful cafe with excellent food. The lady cooking this evening even modified my grilled cheese without question and seemed pleased by my suggestion (even if she wasn't, I appreciate her patience and enthusiasm) and are willing to deliver to your site. They love my giant dog (many parks whine about big dogs) and the sites are strikingly level. When we stayed last year, we got to rent a canoe for practically nothing, which was a delight. The lake is pretty and the fishing is pretty good. They are flexible about extending your stay, which we've done both times we stayed. I also enjoy that the people camping here are happy, pleasant people. I would like to be in a position to stay longer than a couple of days; it seems an excellent place to make friends. read more
