He would engage in conversation with someone and totally ignore the rest. The place is just next to my hotel while travel to BRO. The quality of food is unbelievably good with affordable price, no wonder there was a line just after 7pm. Cheddars is a great spot for ok-good food at a great price. The ambiance is casual but the decor and design give it a nice vibe. Today I had the ribs and tenders. The ribs were over cooked but the waitress immediately brought me a new slab of ribs that were very tender and juicy. Tenders were super good. Green beans are ok-good. House salad is one of my favorites here as you don't have to chop any of the veggies up like at other restaurants. We also had the Mushroom Dijon Chicken which is one of my favorite entrees here. Two very well portioned cuts of chicken breast covered in a Dijon mustard sauce and topped with mushrooms over a bed of rice. VERY GOOD. Service was good. Wait time is good. Arrived at 11:25am on a Thursday. Server was a girl named Christina. We arrived and asked the hostess for a table for 2 and we were going to need 2 which chairs for our 3 and 1 year olds. The lady sat us in a booth for some reason. If you're a parent I am sure you understand, If you have common sense, I am sure you also understand. Took about 5 min to get our drinks ordered. Stopped here for dinner since it was so close to my hotel. I actually didn't know this was a chain since I am not from there area. I came in just after 8pm and the restaurant wasn't too busy. I asked to be seated in the bar so I could watch the games on TV. The waitress was very prompt to come over and help me and was attentive the whole time so no issues with the service. I saw on the menu that there were local beers and to ask my waitress/waiter for the list of what was currently available but found they didn't have anything local. My meal was pretty good. I question the whole made from scratch thing but I have no serious complaints. My medium steak was cooked excellent and I liked the fried onions that came with the steak. My baked potato was probably my one issue with my meal. It was your typical chain restaurant potato that requires a lot of digging to get the potato out of the peel (not light and fluffy at all). The broccoli cheddar casserole was good. The free cookies for being a first time visitor were a nice touch. I wasn't sure if it took an unusual amount of time for my meal to come out as others have mentioned. I was working and really not paying attention. Overall I would go here again. This place is right next to the hotel I usually stay at, the prices were reasonable, the service was friendly, and the food left me satisfied. A meal and a beer for $20 and out the door in under an hour is what I expect for 3 star restaurant. Offer some local beers and I would raise this to 4 stars and stick around for another round. read more

I must say the cheddars in McAllen is a bit faster than this one. You typically wait less than 10 minutes to get your food in McAllen and in Brownsville we waited about 18-22 minutes. The presentation of the food is the same, as I expected because it's a franchise. The waiter took good care of us and brought out the check with a to go box since we had some leftover food. Overall it was a good experience. Oh! And if you're waiting to be seated, you can sit at the bar and order your drinks there. My family and I decided on this establishment after the 1st Communion of my niece. We were about 15 in our party. We were told the wait was going to be 45-50 minutes long. We arrived at 1pm and didn't get seated until 2:47 pm. This was a management issue! As other parties finished their meals, they could've move tables around to accommodate our party. Instead, the chose to have us wait for another large party that was sitting in an enclosed section (opposite of the bar) to finish their meals before sitting us. If it hadn't been for my niece that chose this place to celebrate her first communion, we would've gladly gone somewhere else. To top it off, we were only assigned one server. A party of 10 or more usually gets assigned more than one server in order to expedite the meal. But not at this establishment. I definitely will not return... read more
