I LOVE Cracker Barrel, but I have come here at least once a month for the past few months and every time I'm disappointed. -I understand inflation, I feel it too. But what used to be a restaurant that you left feeling full, the prices are higher and the portions much smaller. You don't even get bread with all the breakfast dishes anymore and they nickel and dime you for everything. Including plain hash browns.....which have nothing in them compared to the premade casserole. -Another complaint I have is the online wait list. I always use the wait list, but this time something happened. I arrived and checked in online, as I always do. This isn't a new routine for me. I waited 25 minutes and still wasn't called so I took my two small children out of my car to check the waitlist. I was never on it. The gentleman at the front told me I had to physically come check in, even though the waitlist literally says you can click I'm here (which I did) OR in person, and that clicking I'm here does nothing until you check in with him. So I was then added to the list as a new patron and waited 45 more minutes for a seat. -The new country ham smells and tastes like feet. -the new steak is nasty, it has no flavor and they clearly buy the cheapest meat with tendons all over. Will never order again. I miss my steak and eggs. -once the waiters drop off your food, they're gone. It doesn't matter how many stars they have, they always ghost. This time I waited the entire time it took my husband to eat his food because I was trying to flag someone down for my missing food. I finally got the manager involved and ate my cold food. We were looking for a place to grab breakfast with the family on New Year's Day and decided on Cracker Barrel since we've had positive experiences here in the past. It felt like a safe, familiar choice for a holiday morning. When we arrived, we were told the wait would be about 30 minutes. To our surprise, we were called back closer to 10 minutes after signing in, which was a very welcome start. That said, once we were called, we ended up waiting a bit longer while our table was cleaned. Unfortunately, it wasn't fully ready when we were seated. There was still trash on the floor, which I nudged aside with my foot until someone eventually came by and picked it up. Our server came over fairly quickly to ask for drink orders, and we were promptly served coffee and water, which we appreciated. After that, things slowed down. It seemed clear the restaurant was short-staffed. Our waiter was visibly running around, and it took quite a while for our food order to be taken even though we were ready. When the food finally arrived, most of the plates were incomplete. I ordered the Country Boy Breakfast with three eggs, sirloin steak tips, a biscuit with gravy, and two breakfast sides. I chose grits and the fried sweet apples. What arrived initially was the eggs, steak tips, and grits. The biscuit and gravy didn't show up until another 15-20 minutes later. The eggs were cooked sunny-side up as requested, but the steak tips were unfortunately very overcooked and, in my opinion, over-seasoned. The grits were honestly pretty bad. On the bright side, the fried sweet apples were amazing and easily the highlight of my meal. Others in our party had similar issues. Some people received eggs but not their pancakes. One person in our group of five, who ordered only French toast and bacon, didn't receive any food at all until the rest of us finally got our missing pancakes and biscuits. We didn't want to start eating until everyone had something, and by the time everything arrived, much of the food was cold. We also asked multiple times for basic accompaniments like jelly for the biscuits and salsa for the eggs and steak tips. These took a long time to arrive and required several reminders. I could sense our waiter's frustration, which I genuinely understand given the circumstances, but we were equally frustrated and disappointed with the service. Overall, the food was mid. The steak was very bad, the grits were disappointing, while the pancakes and biscuits seemed to be solid for everyone else. The eggs were fine, and the apples really stood out in a good way. I'd recommend sticking to the basics here. The prices were reasonable, but the service issues took away significantly from the experience. With better staffing, this location could likely do much better. As it stands, I can't give it more than 3 stars for average food and poor service, and even that feels a bit generous, offered in the spirit of starting the new year with positive vibes. read more

Everytime My Husband and I come, the Appetizer of the Hashbrown Casserole Tots is a must!!! It's so delicious and flavorful! The meatloaf is very delicious as well! They also have new premium sides! This was my first time trying the onion petals and they tasted very delicious, especially with the dip they had with it. The service was very well and our waitress was very attentive! Sometimes it can get pretty packed in there, so just keep an eye on how packed it is. When business is slow, the ambiance is calm. And my favorite part after eating is always taking a walk around the store!! read more

Situation: Needed to reserve a table for 7 at Cracker Barrel for lunch. First Attempted to make reservation by calling, however they only have an online/app Waiting List. Second: Put Name on waiting, however timing was too soon so that did not work for group or business. Third: Put Name on waiting list through the app for the my expected time of arrival. Waited a bit at the when arrived. We got our table and it was a bit of a wait for the waiter to get to us for drink/food order. Separation of tickets may have slowed down the whole process, So business should let parties know it is not an option. We had to leave before food was ready. read more

It seems best to stick with what they are known to do best- pancakes, biscuits, bacon. I thought the fried cinnamon apples were good too (not overly sweet or overcooked)- and a nice compliment to pancakes. The hash browns are cheesy and the grits are buttery- may want to forgo because of the richness. I was glad to see that the maple syrup had maple as an ingredient. When syrup doesn't it usually ruins the pancake experience for me. The major downside was the service- members of my party thought it deserved more like 2 stars. Had to ask multiple times for jelly, to accompany the biscuits, and for hot sauce. The drinks took a while to be topped off. Mainly the issue was that the breakfast orders got split up- maybe because they were so busy. The eggs and proteins came first, and some complained that by the time pancakes and biscuits came the eggs were cold. It was supposed to come all together- as a breakfast plate. That was the main issue- and also that the little requests got forgotten, for the most part. I had heard of Cracker Barrel in the past and seen billboards but never went in cause I heard it was "white people food". Well I took a leap of faith and tried it at the one in McAllen. The staff are all super friendly pleasant people. When you enter you walk through a store totally packed with trinkets and gifts of all kinds. The portions are just right and not massive. They give you like 3 small sides along with whatever you order. This place definitely does it right and its worth the money cause its not expensive! I now love thus place! read more

Hadn't been here in a while and decided to come here today I ordered the grandmas sampler pancake breakfast. The pancakes had a really good homemade taste And that was about all for my good points. Our breakfast took a little over 30 minutes to get and when we did it was cold all Round the eggs were a little underdone And cold the ham, bacon and sausage also cold as were my grits. The food was good taste wise but cold. The service was k since they were very busy this day our server came by to check with us often and refilled our coffee. My husband and I were craving something different from our usual Denny's. Our biggest mistake was choosing Cracker Barrel, which we hadn't visited in years. To start, our drinks were flat, so we had to get them changed. We ordered the build-your-own breakfast, and I opted for buttermilk pancakes, steak tips, eggs, and hash browns. My husband chose the same w/out the steak tips, and it came to over $40. We were expecting biscuits and gravy with our breakfast as advertised with the meal that we chose, but when we brought it to the server's attention, he informed us that the biscuits that were brought to us 15-20 minutes before our plate were part of the meal but had forgotten the gravy. After years of enjoying Cracker Barrel's biscuits, we were disappointed to find that they had changed the basket we would get at the beginning of your meal. Asked attendant how much longer & was told 10 tables were ahead of us. After more than 10 parties were called, I asked again & was told 5 more parties ahead. I complained because we were bumped for larger parties & it was only after that we were seated after 2 more tables before us. Unacceptable. We then had to wait another 30min for our food. Our city is big enough for a second location which doesn't seem to be happening. This one is getting worse on waiting times. I ate at this Cracker Barrel on a Friday evening, and walked in expecting to see a line to get in. I now know why there wasn't one. Waitress was slow to greet and take drink orders. Food arrived mostly cold. The meal was shrimp and grits. The lumps in the grits were refrigerator cold, and they were watery, like hot water had been added to cold grits to heat them up. The shrimp were an appropriate temperature, the sauce the shrimp were in wasn't heated through. The dish would have tasted good, if it had been heated up properly. The waitress brought one refill of the tea, when she brought the check. In the past I have given this location 5 stars. I may have been a little generous, but I have enjoyed my past visits. Hopefully today's poor quality and slow service was an anomaly. We did not have to wait for a table. We arrived shortly after 5 PM and few tables were occupied. However we waited 10 minutes before we were noticed by a server whom I had to flag down and let know we were ready to order. We had been trying to get the attention of the five servers who were standing around and chatting among themselves by the kitchen door. We made eye contact with some, but they ignored us. Once we had the attention of a server, we ordered both drinks and entrees at once because we were hungry. Out of curiosity I set the stopwatch. After seven minutes our drinks arrived. After 15 minutes our biscuits and corn muffins arrived. The entrees took 30 minutes to arrive. I have never had to wait that long here before. The food did not all arrive. We had to ask for some of the sides which were missing. Two at my table ordered breakfasts with scrambled eggs and steak. The eggs were browned and dry. The steak was so tough they could only eat half of it and decided it was not worth taking home to give to the dog. My mashed potatoes were tasty but very dry, and barely covered with a thin layer of gravy... We probably should have sent those back, but we were sooo hungry and didn't want to have to deal with a server who didn't want to serve. On the positive side, the pancakes, biscuits, corn muffins, and fried cod were excellent. I had ordered chicken fried steak which was very good. Larry P. would be glad to know they had pepper vinegar to go with the turnip greens which were delicious. Service was slow. Everything was slow. Few of the employees seemed to actually be working. What happened tonight Cracker Barrel? Too much eggnog? My girls don't want to return. So if I can convince my wife (who enjoyed the cod) I will try them again and hope tonight's experience was a fluke. Ordered from this establishment through Grubhub. Everything was nicely packaged and it included the cutest Cracker Barrel miniature syrup glass bottle. Presentation and size-to-price ratio were 5 stars. I also liked that they offer Impossible sausage Pattie's for those of us who don't eat pork or chicken (they also offer a chicken option). The Imposible sausage patty had a unique taste, but I've never had it before so maybe that's how it tastes. However, the scrambled eggs were rather tasteless. Just tasted like water, really. We (me especially) LOVE Cracker Barrel. We sometimes vary in our opinion based on the service, because the food is usually pretty on point. We had a good experience this time, as well. It could have been outstanding, but service was just a smidge off. For example, we did not get any napkins with our silverwhere. We had to go looking for our server to ask for some. Also one in our party ordered pancakes and did not get any pancake syrup. Again we had to looking for someone to get us pancake syrup. Once I found out they had fried catfish on the menu, I could never try anything else! I love their catfish and hush puppies. One time I was told they had discontinued their hush puppies and I was so bummed, but the next time I went (a month or two later) they were served to me. So I was probably lied to lol. I'm not going to base my rating on the service of the waiters because I've been here so many times and I've had both positive and negative experiences. Waiters come and go. While the food at this cracker barrel location was what was expected, the service was only average. I attended this restaurant location on a Wednesday at around 1130 am. The restaurant was busy, however the staff displayed no sense of urgency when trying to address and take names of guests for the waitlist or seat customers. At one point there was a line about 20 hoops long just trying to get their name on the list while the hostess paid them little to no attention and just sat guests who's tables were becoming available. Also once we placed our order, the food took more than 40 minutes to reach our table. It's always good to come here when you are wanting flat full of flavor pancakes. It is usully a minimum wait time but at least you have the store to make the time pass fast. Our sever recommended an off the menu plate. Grandmas platter. It comes with 3 eggs, 3 meats, hash browns and 2 pancakes. Can't beat this deal especially if it's only a diff of $.50 from the momma platter. I recommend the turkey sausage i feel that the sausage has a better flavor compared the to other sausage. And their pancakes I can eat their pancakes on a daily basis!!!!! I won't give the rating a full 5 stars only because I felt that I had to constantly be asking out server for something either ketchup, hot sauce or even jelly. I used to love me Cracker Barrel...used to. I've eaten at Cracker Barrels in north Texas so maybe it's just the one here that is going downhill? I don't know... We went today with my family...group of 5 and waited about 10 min even though the place didn't look full. So we were finally seated and it took over 5 min before the waiter even came over to give us our menus. His tip was still on the table from the previous people...I even had to give it to him, it took him so long to return to the table. At least he apologized...but it was apologizing for slow service. So we ordered biscuits and gravy, I ordered the meatloaf, my wife the southern fried chicken, also ordered pancakes and the kids cheeseburgers. The biscuits and gravy were delicious...the biscuits were nice and hot and tasted fresh...the reason for 1 star. The kids hamburgers came out...the bread was hard and the meat looked over cooked. You could tell they had placed the slices of cheese afterwards...but it wasn't even melted because the burgers weren't even hot. So they brought out the cheeseburgers for the kids and told us the rest of the food was almost out. Well...20 min later we were still waiting. We had to tell the manager something and then miraculously the food came out. The meatloaf looked dry, it wasn't cold but it wasn't even warm either..more like room temperature. Everything was room temperature, except the fried chicken. The fried chicken was nice and hot...I'm not sure if they held up all the plates just for the fried chicken but room temperature food just isn't appealing. The moron took our order and brought them back both wrong then proceeded to verbally talk down to me saying "next time" I needed to be "more specific". The idiot heard loaded baked potato I said loaded sweet potato. The reason I know for a fact that I clarified what I ordered was because I POINTED at it. So he'd see. Apparently he chose violence because as he scoffed his smug ass at me I demanded the manager. Manager and I'm assuming a higher up got an earful and then proceeded to apologize for the ex Wendy's workers attitude to which I told them if they were apologizing for him to save it he's the one who caused this mess and that's because I didn't mention the both orders were in-fact incorrect. He asked what type of gravy, gave the choices -an answer was given and they came dry. He brought two macaronis and the order was for one. This guy was either high. Stupid. Or both.
