I love supporting food trucks! One thing that has surprised me is how sophisticated food trucks have become. The cliche that you can only get tacos from them is fast becoming a thing of the past. As the pandemic taught us, pop up kitchens and ghost kitchens have much to offer. Even when we can't dine inside, we can still find great food to-go or via delivery. Cheese E Wagon focuses on Philly cheesesteaks and has several different options. I only went to Philadelphia once (loved it!) so I am not an expert by any means on cheesesteaks. Many customers at the truck were commenting on how authentic these were. I tried both the original cheesesteak and a cheeseburger (just bites of each). Both were about what you would expect. Not to detract from it, but these are what I call "belly stuffer" foods. The idea isn't as much on the flavor or refinement (it IS a food truck, after all!) but on getting full. These aren't items I would want to "belly stuff" with in the middle of summer on a 120 degree day, but on a mild December evening? Satisfying. Interestingly, the cheeseburger is served with a side of fries whereas the cheesesteak isn't. I would recommend ordering fries. These aren't fast-food fries. They're flavorful and original. The employees in the truck were super friendly! I'm used to long waits at food trucks. Not at this one! The team got the good out quickly. It was a nice experience, and when talk about supporting local and family-owned businesses, nothing exemplifies that more than a food truck. #veteranowned

If you're looking for a legit Philly, this place is it. Make sure you get it wit Wiz, for sure!! Also, the owner is willing to accommodate special requests when he can which makes it even more amazing- my son has a custom grilled cheese he does with mac and cheese bites and jalapeños that is divine! Be sure to give them a try!

For me, I enjoy the chance to engage with culture, eat a variety of foods, and support our local Asian community. These events typically take place in the parking lot of the AZ International Marketplace in Mesa. Several food and retail vendors fill up the parking lot with all sorts of yummy food and cool merchandise. There is also a stage with live entertainment. I recently attended the Kamayan Festival version of the night market which was part of the celebration for Filipino American History Month. I had a VIP pass to the Sapporo beer garden and enjoyed the perks that came with it. As much as I enjoy being a part of these festivals, the lines are usually insanely long. I come to these to try new things, but find myself getting discouraged by the long waits. I have learned the best time to come to Asian Night Markets is when they first open if you want to try a variety of food.

Centered on…read morethe Asian Pacific American community, this event celebrates cultural diversity, cuisine, art, and music. Organized by the Asian Chamber of Commerce, I know that in the past this required admission but this year's was free. I would not be surprised if it becomes an admission-only event in the future as it was packed from the entry time of 5:30. Given that the city of Mesa has decided to invest considerable resources to brand the area as an Asian enclave, I suspect it will get bigger and more impressive each year. While there are a ton of food trucks here, my advice would be not to show up hungry. Nearly every stall had long lines (save the poor coffee vendor). I would like to say that lines moved quickly, but most did not. I think it is better to have eaten a little something first and then show up and have a snack or two or come later in the evening when the live music really gets going. But if you plan to make this your sole dinner stop it will be frustrating. One perk of a big festival like this is that many smaller caterers/restaurants/food trucks that you haven't heard of will show up. There was plenty that was new to me and gave me a bucket list of places to try. I got some bao buns from Hot Bamboo which has a brick-and-mortar location in Chandler as well as a food truck that often pops up at festivals across town. They make Instagrammable character buns. It's a bit cheesy but the price was good and they were flavorful and satisfying. They were temporarily out of some fillings and the employees were profusely apologetic. It did inspire me to want to one day visit their actual restaurant. The vibe was great and the 2022 edition was a nice blend of people from all walks of life eager to celebrate our post-pandemic world (yeah, Year of the Tiger!). Besides food trucks, there were a few vendors selling gifts and other items but nothing popped out as too special. You can find the schedule on their website. Besides the night market, they also organize some daytime activities at parks that focus less on food and more on culture.

While I was driving back to my hotel, I saw a sign that said San Antonio tire shop. I was like COOL! Then I saw the taco truck parked on the side.... I couldn't pass the place up. They advertise fresh homemade corn tortillas. Let's just say these are the best corn tortillas I have had. I will be picking up a pack to take back home!! So because I already had dinner, I ordered 1 asada taco, it was really good. I came back Saturday evening after we were done working for the day. I got 4 tacos, I wanted to have some extra for breakfast. I ordered 2 asada, 1 chicharon and 1 carnitas. I ate all four... they were all good! If you have never experienced a taco truck or just want some really good tacos, this is the place to go!

We arrived around 11:30 pm and it was cold outside. There were about three people working and the guy taking the orders was very friendly. We ordered a few tacos and a gordita. The tacos were of carnitas and the gordita was chicharrón. We also got two Mexican sodas. They also had a complimentary hot cinnamon drink that he kindly poured for us. Our food didn't take too long to be ready. The carnitas tacos were sooooo good. The meat was very flavorful. The salsas were also really good. The gordita we unfortunately didn't like as we did not like the chicharrón. It was just a weird texture and the flavor was a no. By no means is this place fancy but the tacos and the service was good. We paid about $22. I originally wanted chicken tacos but he said they were out of chicken. My friend wanted tripitas and they also didn't have any. Several items on the menu he said they didn't have available which was kinda annoying.. The take card and cash!

The meats are so good. We also use to love the sushi side. During Covid, we tried the sushi for the first time. We were hesitant as it's a Mexican joint, right? Not a Japanese specialty shop. So to my surprise, I couldn't believe the sushi especially the Las Vegas roll and their Nigiri cuts were pretty dang good. My disappointment seems to be this last year with the sushi just hasn't been the best or fresh tasting. The Las Vegas roll was always nice and warm but with an awesome cold center and fried to perfection and the sauce just right. Lately it's been the opposite. Super over fried were all you can taste is old burnt oil and it dried out and the sauce just bland and not helping at all. The other thing that bothers us is the lack of wasabi they give! If you're not going to give us full flavor, at least give more wasabi to help mask. I will say they give you plenty of soy sauce packets (just barely any wasabi).
